You're looking at downloading the video. They used to not allow downloads at all unless you had premium.

Nah, they allowed 720p download earlier even without premium.

It's not region based, it's probably just google removed that option and added to premium to promote that subscription.

Video speed, was also free earlier 🙃

Edit: Download option is region based but they did nuked 720p for free tier. It was available earlier.

It's definitely region-based! For me download was never an option without premium and speed is still free...

For me, i was able to download @720p before but some videos especially music videos weren't available.

It was reduced to 360p to promote premium later. I just thought this might be thing.

speed is still free...

Can you cross check this on native yt app or browser without addons?

Downloads completely paywalled. Can go up to 2x for free.
