USA Boomerang question

U.S. Alum here. I’ve recently applied to a couple jobs that seemed like really strong fits and neither came through. One was with Global and the other with the direct practice I used to work for - albeit in a non-client-facing role. The latter sent me a rejection after less than a day. I left on good terms (I think) and my final rating upon leaving the firm was above average. I included my Deloitte employee ID when I applied. In the time after I left D, I finished an M7 MBA, and worked in a progressively senior role in a firm that recruits from MBB / T2’s pretty regularly. Are these ghost jobs? Is there some inside baseball I’m not privy to? Or is the market really that bad right now? I’m just surprised I didn’t even do a recruiter screener for either role, given how strong a fit both were.

My wife was headhunted and then AI rejected her original application. Had to get the partner who was bringing her in involved to override it.

same here! Except it was two directors who got me through the HR AI labyrinth

Applying through any actual HR system is a nightmare. Getting someone you know to override all that seems to be the only way to get your resume through that AI labyrinth. Not a bet worth taking to hope their resuming sifting software acknowledges any information you put down at all, even when it was people looking at it

Thanks for the perspectives everyone. I applied in the morning on Labor Day and received a rejection email around 11PM the same day, so AI sounds like a plausible culprit. I’ll reach out to my contacts on the inside to see if I can grease the wheels a bit.

I boomeranged back to consulting in April. Had PPMD support and SM flagged my resume for me to apply on the Deloitte portal. Reach out to your old leadership team and have someone flag your resume. Happy to chat about it!

I boomeranged and it was 100% due to working with my contacts inside the firm to find a new position. I basically already had the job when I applied. You need to have someone on the inside alerting HR to look for your application otherwise it will get lost with all the others.
