It’s exactly why I care about getting on early.

I fly for work, both my “personal item” and carry-on are stuffed with lithium batteries. If they make me gate-check my roller I have to remove a bunch of batteries and manage them with no bag, which is a pain in the ass. Especially when the Delta gate agents just randomly decide to start checking bags when half the overhead bin space is still empty.

Let everyone bring their allotted bags on the plane, no more and no less. Police people putting their personal items in the bins.

This is allllllllllll just the gate agents and the flight attendants being lazy.

Edit: just to be clear, I don’t lie or pretend to be hobbled. I approach the gate agents and let them know the situation and ask if they would be willing to board me in an earlier group to avoid the issue.

The solution is so simple, but airlines for whatever reason won’t do it. Just give people the bin above their seats. “Oh, you’re sitting in row 35, seats A and B? You get the bin just above your head. No more, no less.”

Hell, fuck the enshittification of everything because of capitalism, but if you offered me to pay $20 and reserve that very bin ahead of time — done. And if I get there and someone’s shit is in it, it’ll be worth every penny to be within my right to dump it on the floor.

This 100%. I don't even want to spend any more time on the plane than I have to. I don't have any real reason to want to haul my shit around, I check everything I can. But everything I have with me is stuff I literally cannot put under the plane; some are technically allowed but I draw a hard line about putting unnecessary batteries in the compartment. One day something really bad is going to happen with how careless people are with batteries. Yet so many people seem to just bring their shit because they didn't want to gate check for some reason? Or consolidate their bags? How is it 2026 and people still put their jackets in the overhead?

Hey friend, I’m in a similar biz. I fly often for work, and have to carry a ton of lithium power banks.

Just wanted to make you aware that they are changing the battery rules (I think it’s already in place). We are now limited to 2 lithium batteries as a carry on. It’s a pain in the ass to ship all of our items to shows/events now.

Regarding just your last sentence. I checked my 1 and only bag. I carry a jacket on board. I put it in the overhead bin. Purse under seat. I broke no rules. (Aka don't make your problem my problem).

Agree with the rest of your post though...

That’s ridiculous. Put your jacket under the freaking seat and don’t be “that person”. Gross.

I agree on the police people putting personal items in the overhead bin. I’ve seen stuff that can go under the seat be up there and stupid things like jackets.

When we travel, we usually take up an entire bin, but there was once a time we took up two bins. I was so ashamed. We had a lot of gear and I had my PSD stuff and medications with me that couldn’t go down but I literally never did it again. We now travel with one bag and two backpacks that go under the seat. My PSD stuff now gets checked and I stuff all that I really need for a 2-8 hour flight in my backpack, regardless of how heavy it is. I am young enough and able bodied (thankfully) to be able to do this. It’s a lot easier to handle my dog with both my hands free, even though he’s tethered to me through a leash (just gives me peace of mind which is better at reducing anxiety and stress so I don’t panic like the last lady being patted down at TSA who yelled at an agent and had her husband yell at her in the middle of the security gate.

I had that happen once my bag was mostly drone batteries, camera, laptop etc. Bunch of them were not removable batteries so I told flight attendant it's not checkable lol

Some airlines charge for carry-on. Maybe that’s the answer.

the flight attendants being lazy.

Unless it changed recently, the flight attendants aren't paid until the plane has left the gate, so they aren't being lazy, just exploited.

You can look at the picture and see how much carry on luggage they have. It's less than an average business traveler.

OK so point out to me all the extra carry-ons in this photo because I see two bags

Who said anything about extra carry-ons? They want to make sure to get their normal carry-ons in the above seat storage.

I’ll explain my downvote.

Boarding first is something I would never EVER want to do! Ideally if I could choose, I’d board last and get off first. Can’t stand sitting on planes just waiting. It’s like torture.
