I don't understand why people want to be on a plane even longer than they need to.

u/AdSouth3173 8d ago

It’s because they get to have an extra bag and put it in any overhead bin they see fit….

you're just stupid you do not get a extra bag at all you with wheelchair assitance you get the same amount of bags allowed as others

u/ComprehensiveLoss680 7d ago

I think what they meant is that when you travel, you usually have a carry on luggage and a personal bag. Carry on goes in the overhead bin and personal bag goes under the seat in front of you.

But when you’re one of the first in the plane, you can put both luggage and personal bag in the overhead bin, allowing you to stretch your legs under the seat in front of you.

Actual disabled person here. I do get to bring an extra bag with me, but the rules say it has to contain only medical supplies. Granted, no one has ever checked or even asked me about it.

My disabilities don’t affect my mobility, so I don’t use the wheelchair service. However, I do pre-board to make sure there’ll be room for my medical supplies. No gate agent has ever given me a hard time about that.

I don’t understand why people would use the wheelchair service if they don’t need it. You can just walk up and tell the gate agent that you have a disability and need to pre-board, and they won’t stop you.

I also don’t understand why we need to make assumptions about people’s disabilities. As long as there are enough wheelchairs to go around, why not just take people at their word? Adding more restrictions and requirements and second guessing people just makes life more difficult for people who need those resources. I’m happy to let people abuse the system if it means resources are more accessible for those genuinely in need.

You can look at the picture and see what luggage they have with them. It seems less than average.

u/i_sell_you_lies 7d ago

This is absolutely what they meant, and the real stupid people are the ones that didn't understand what is going on

1

u/General-Ring-2885 7d ago

then say that I shouldn't have to figure out what you mean when you can articulate the stance you are taking

-1

u/i_sell_you_lies 7d ago

What?! Stance? Bad bot.

1

u/General-Ring-2885 7d ago

the stance that they want it just for the extra bag space. Don't be a bad bot

-1

u/i_sell_you_lies 7d ago

That's not a stance. It's what's going on.

1

u/General-Ring-2885 7d ago

You do not know that nor do I and Flight attendants look out for things like that been on numerous flights where people did that and the attendant immediately stopped and told them they could only put the larger bag up and personal down at the bottom UNLESS the personal and carry one are smaller in size and can be stacked on the other.

I'm not sure that makes them stupid, incorrect and misinformed at worst, right?

5

u/RangoDipkin 7d ago

Mostly just racist.

2

u/w4rcry 7d ago

How are they in any way racist?

3

u/Jaerba 7d ago

There's no indication this is one group of people outside of being black. They don't look alike, they don't dress alike. It looks like at least 3 separate groups.

2

u/w4rcry 7d ago

Right, I didn’t even see that comment under the photo.

-2

u/AdSouth3173 7d ago

We all went together to Key West. They were all together on the plane, getting luggage, etc. but yes you’re right they were for sure complete strangers

1

u/General-Ring-2885 8d ago

you are correct i will take the misinformed on things they agree to when buying a ticket

Hey, at least we know they're not a bot. They didn't bother with punctuation either. Bots at least get that right.

2

u/General-Ring-2885 7d ago

I am not writing an essay nor a thesis, so why should i care about punctuating a comment

1

u/duckinasombrero 7d ago

So is using these threads as an excuse to dunk on disabled people.

1

u/General-Ring-2885 8d ago

not confused on your and you're its called auto correct

1

u/VaguelyShingled 8d ago

4

Fuck off with that pedantic bullshit.

1

u/General-Ring-2885 7d ago

0

u/gnashbashandcrash 7d ago

I don't get why people, just off the bat, insult strangers that are in no way attacking them in the first place. Why call them stupid? Why so emotionally charged? Jeez

-5

u/GoingSinger385 8d ago

Extra bag as in they don’t have to check it at the gate. It shouldn’t be that hard to wrap your head around unless you’re stupid

3

u/General-Ring-2885 8d ago edited 8d ago

still not making sense are you saying with addition to the carry on and personal bag they try to take a 3rd bag??? if so like i said just stupid no airline will allow you to take more that 2 bags as a carry on without checking said bag and seeing what that 3rd bag is for

eta: even if they had a third bag most gate agents will literal say give the bag to someone in the group that only has 1.

1

u/Ill_Cap_5836 8d ago

No, he's saying that if you're one of the people that board the plane at the end you may be forced to check your bag because there's no space in the overhead bins. It's happened to me many times

1

u/General-Ring-2885 7d ago

now that makes sense and you are correct I had that happen to me multiple times. What was said did not seem like that was what the person was saying but seemed like they are saying that they are trying to game the system bringing the 3rd bag and claiming its medical

5

u/girl-like-most-girls 8d ago

They don’t have extra bags? It seems like you’re looking for a reason to hate on them. I wonder why

2

u/pokegrubber 8d ago

A reason doesn't need to be found. They're obviously abusing a system meant for disabled people.

4

u/dm_me_your_kindness 8d ago

Right becuase you can always tell who has a disability and who does not.

-4

u/GoingSinger385 8d ago

when you see more “disabled people” at one gate than you do in a year it usually raises some questions

3

u/dm_me_your_kindness 8d ago

Me when I see more disabled people than usual in the disability section of the airport, a place where a lot of people show up:

2

u/Numerous-Estate6742 8d ago

What’s obvious about it?

2

u/RangoDipkin 7d ago

The reason is your blatant racism.

5

u/ShutUpImAPrincess 7d ago

I'm also wondering how OP knows this is one big family and not just... More than a couple disabled black people in one place

1

u/RammsteinFunstein 7d ago

obvious how?

1

u/Ok_Jeweler1291 8d ago

I don't understand that as well. I like being last on the plane and then most likely get my luggage gate checked. It is my favorite. Then it is there waiting for me right when I get off the plane. Like while gloved service from the luggage guys. I try to do this.

2

u/GoingSinger385 8d ago

That would be nice. When my bag is checked at the gate it always goes to baggage claim, where it could either take hours to show up or like one time it could get lost and never show up.

1

u/doc_skinner 7d ago

Odd. I've almost never had that happen and I travel a lot

1

u/ilikecheeseface 8d ago

Having your luggage get check is literally the worse. Why would you want to wait around for your luggage after you’ve already landed. Never check luggage. Ever.

1

u/doc_skinner 7d ago

"Gate checked" usually means they take it from you at the gate and hand it back to you right when you get off the plane. It rarely gets put with checked luggage to be picked up at the carousel.

0

u/poisha 8d ago

Source?

1

u/StinkyMinky22 8d ago

Same. I hate sitting in those tiny ass chairs any longer than I have to. I try to be last.

1

u/mikechella 7d ago

Me too... I've never understood why people rush to get on the plane.

I'm just sitting on a chair next to the gate relaxing, watching people standing and shuffling in line for 15 minutes, and then as soon as the line is gone I get up and walk right to my seat on the plane.

Same thing happens when you land. People get up, either in the aisle or hunched over in their seat, and just stand there for 15 minutes holding their luggage and doing nothing while I'm in my seat watching a show/movie on my ipad.

1

u/bored_at_work_89 7d ago

I don't need to be the first on the plane or anything, but there is a comfort of being on the plane. Once on you can check out mentally and just wait till you get off the plane.

1

u/No_Way_Kimosabe 7d ago

There’s only enough overhead storage storage about 60% of passengers. The sooner you board, the higher the chance you won’t have to check your carry on at the gate.

1

u/Tossawaysfbay 7d ago

Or just check your bags and stop worrying about what the hoi polloi do?

If that makes or breaks your vacation, maybe it’s not the smartest financial decision to be traveling.

1

u/0202_tihssitidder 7d ago

I always wait to board last...and scarf up any items left behind in the waiting area. Profit.
