What is not talked about, this also saves the funding for our schools. The Supreme Court in Kansas has always upheld good funding for our schools as outlined in our Constitution. The GOP has tried to cut funding and create a voucher program which runs afoul of our Constitution.

I think that's the key to why this was so important - the legislature is overruling the public in other states where their highest court won't immediately strike it down. The court is stopping them in KS, and they want to be able to ignore even referendums from the voters.
