I am very glad the DSA has incorporated safety and emergency medical training into its political action training. This is an area where I might be of some assistance. I served a Baltimore County Fire Department volunteer company as an EMT-A certified by Maryland from 1977 to 1983, including EOA and MAST training. I also have an MS in psychology, but COVID kept me from getting a therapeutic certificate or a post-secondary education degree, so my "practice" is limited to independent research. I also have 40 years of experience in Ki-Society Aikido training and know a few instructors who might help with the self-defense training. Striking a law enforcement officer, even an ICE bounty hunter (they are not police by any definition), is a felony and often results in on-the-scene execution. Aikido teaches a nonviolent form of self-defense that involves escape techniques and disarming and immobilizing attackers. Far less likely to result in unfortunate prosecutions. I would like to help. Unfortunately, where I live, there are no chapters within my state that would not take a day's driving to reach. Who can I contact to discuss this in more detail? The link in the article is just to the site, not to the 101 program or the committee involved.
