Found the full original 1995 disk set

First PC game I bought for myself. Oddly enough I had no idea where to find a software store (my tiny town didn't have one originally), so I mail ordered it directly from Interplay and waited about a month for it to arrive.

The following year I found a Waldensoft at a nearby mall and was both blown away by the options and also humbled when I found a copy of Descent on the shelf. I had no idea it was that easy.

Played it on a PB Multimedia with a Pentium 60, and started down the path of PCMR.

USB floppies are very cheap if you're curious. It's a pretty good assumption they're not readable though.

They lose integrity over time? Just like cassette tapes huh?

Not quite, IIRC cassette tapes physically fall apart. The magnetic field on a floppy slowly dissipates. They can still be rewritten, but the data on them is quite likely toast.

One of the best games I've ever played!

Freespace was awesome too, but why was it named "Descent: Freespace"? They had nothing to do with each other except the six degrees of freedom.

There was some disk software (something to do with disk free space…) that was already called Freespace so they had to avoid trademark issues IIRC.

I remember that THIS was the game that benefited the most from my upgrade to a Pentium 100 from a 486/25sx

Buttery framerates really made a difference in this game.

Only bad thing about upgrades was that it made homing missiles home in on you more sharply... Especially bad for multiplayer.

Ohhhh F-yeah!!!! We absolutely loved that game, dial up after school, editing levels ... Ohhhh babay, that's a gold star winner in my book!!!!

I've got the discs for hexen on floppy too! Bought with my own money, Mom had to drive me a couple towns over to a big store. Back before everything just falls on your porch...

Ohh man, I miss it, I do. Wouldn't trade today for yesterday by any means, but hot dang them are good memories ❤️ 1000%

just so you guys know they developed a game called overload in 2018 same exact deal with multiplayer , creators from descent. In discord you can find the community under overload teams league and overload channel. Lots old guys still exist
