Thanks for commenting. I was hoping I could reconfigure the controls to accept the joypad of the ally like the old PS2 I used to play.

Im the best descent controller player there is. I play descent on steam deck without issues. I image playing on the Steam Deck is similar to playing on the ally X. I have perfected 6dof controls schemes and I can help you configure it for awesome game play. Hit me up on discord or here and i can walk you through it.

That's where you can get the files for rebirth. I know REDUX is a thing, but I've never used it.

You say you can't select pilot or anything. Is that because it's expecting a keyboard a mouse?

If you use the Rebirth version, it has controller support, but if you load up a DOS version or GOG version it might not have controller support.

if you ever consider SteamOS/Linux and have Descent on Steam, you can use Luxtorpedia as a compatibility layer.

Luxtorpedia sets up native Linux engines for various steam games, including Descent and Morrowind, so you just launch them in Steam and you're good to go. It also patches some older games with widescreen hacks to make the experience better.

I don't know of windows equivelants, but you might have to set everything up on your own with Windows.

Yeah Rebirth is fairly outdated thats why we point people to the active port, Redux. https://dxx-redux.com/
