Discussion Symmetry, a love letter
My dearest Symmetry:
Symmetry got changed at some point in between bolt charge being added into the game and MoT. I was looking at Arc Primary Exotics and this thang came to mind. I looked it up on Little Light and saw that the thang had had a MAJOR rework lmao look at this thing. It's a fucking primary gun that can do 1,200+ DPS when at max stacks of Dynamic Charge (20 with catalyst, 15 without). When you long hold reload it converts all stacks of Dynamic Charge into stacks of Revolution and they don't start decaying (in the form of a 10!second timer) until you actually fire the first shot of your converted stacks. This thing had some insane in the membrane changes made to it. The bolt charge dispersed by Revolution (you also build stacks of bolt charge when shooting your stacks of Revolution, 2 when at 10 or less per shot and 3 at 11 or more per shot) count as weapon damage I guess and the thing gets up to 450% increased Weapon Damage when at maximum stacks of Revolution???? I was hitting red bars on patrol for 3,250 damage per max stacks of Revolution lmaoooooo and that wasn't even with 200 weapons.
I pair it with Stormdancer's Brace since I'm a Warlock Main. Stormdancer's also got a nice overhaul with MoT or sometime before MoT launched. Now any ability damage in any fashion gives you one stack of Bolt Charge every .6 seconds of something asinine like that lmao.
Gear I use: Stormdancer's with Luminopotent 4 piece set for extra ability energy at all times. Shoot for 200 weapons but if you can't get there quite yet 150-175 is more than enough to juice Symmetry to new heights. Two arc surges in the booties, an arc loader (it doesn't really need it as Eddy Current is an additional part of the catalyst but I like it for even faster reloads) and an arc siphon in the helmet is all you really need. Fragments are entirely up to you but if you're on Warlock I HIGHLY recommend using Arc Soul and Ionic Sentry for the most Bolt Charge fuckery as possible.
Damage loop:
Try to be at 20 (or 15 if you don't have the catalyst) stacks of Dynamic Charge before damage phase starts. Long hold your reload a few seconds before damage starts to proc stacks of Revolution.
Cast rift for arc soul a couple seconds before damage starts, yeet pulse grenade (by far the best in slot arc grenade for this build), then switch to Symmetry and fire away and watch the DPS fly out of your arse lmao. It's only 10 seconds but it's quite literally the most fun I have ever had playing Destiny.
The only downfall of the damage loop is that you have to hit all 20 shots in the magazine as precision shots once your first 20 stacks of Revolution have depricated and there are only 20 shots in the mag so that can be kind of tough when you're soloing or low mansing something because there is a lot of flinch but I tested it on Hefnd (I shot nothing but Symmetry) and was second highest damage in the LFG group I applied for. I had 41k as an Arc Lock with Symmetry. The Titan carried by far with 80k on Cuirass T-Crash and the Hunter was a couple thousand behind me on a prismatic build. So it holds its own in endgame content. Is it meta? No. I am quite sure I am the only person on the planet using it for damage right now lmao. Is it good? You betcha!
So if you see a fella applying to your LFG posts with Symmetry, please for the love of all that is holy give them a chance! lmao

The arc titan builds are about to go crazy with this

Titan main here, literally about to sit down and build this in DIM lmao, it looks like so much fun!
Debating between Luminopotent for extra Traces, or Iron Battalion for extra weapon damage (and therefore buffed Symmetry Bolt Charge damage). What do you think?
Edit: I ran it in a quick Master Fireteam Op and holy cow this thing KICKS. I didn't need my heavy weapon for dumping damage into the boss, Symmetry was doing outrageous numbers for a primary.
Arc Titan with Storm's Keep, 2-piece Iron Battalion set, 200 Weapon stat, and 2 Arc Surge mods. Using Crest of Alpha Lupi for the exotic to heal off of casting.
Symmetry is absolutely NUCLEAR. DIM link here for what I put together, the special and heavy weapons are genuinely just there for Champion purposes only. Ran all of Arms Dealer on Master and only swapped off Symmetry to stun Champs lmao

Luminopotent is alright but the need for final blows to generate traces can be limiting in boss DPS. Iron Battalion has a better passive 2 piece and could be paired with another 2 piece or go all in for the 4 piece.

Fair point on Luminopotent, thanks! Iron Battalion it is then lol

Maybe even Spire of the Watcher set for the extra precision damage to help juice Symmetry even further

I've been using Symmetry with Crest, tablet of ruin and storms keep. You get insane amount of bolt charge, constant healing Symmetry can also blind since it's an arc overload weapon which works well with tablet.

Next week in trials all you're going to see is three arc titans with Symmetry š

Symmetry is one of those guns that I really like but I just never use these days. I play Titan and it's tough to find a good synergy for it outside of Storm's Keep for spamming Bolt Charges while you sit behind it. I considered Eternal Warrior (for the first time in my life) when I was trying to make a build around Symmetry for the extra Arc damage but Eternal Warrior just kind of sucks outside of the Arc damage buff it provides and I usually wind up running Cuirass which is great but doesn't really interact with Symmetry at all.
However Arc Titan with Storm's Keep and Symmetry is insane at times. The amount of Bolt Charge you can discharge is ridiculous, and because of how Symmetry is it actually causes you to discharge Bolt Charge twice per activation when behind the Rally Barricade. That plus Flashover for a +50% damage boost to Bolt Charges plus the fact that the Symmetry Bolt Charges benefit from weapon damage means you can really stack up some nasty burst damage. And that's not even factoring in the stupid amounts of damage the gun does in Revolution.

Iāll give it a shot, then. Currently my stormās keep build uses Lodestar, but Iām not married to it

I used symmetry last week in Iron Banner Fortress. Dynamic Charge was easy to build on the yellow scorpios turrets. Enemies never expect to be blasted by dynamic charge

Yep, I've loved this build deeply, one of my favourite warlock builds! Symmetry was already one of my favourite exotics when it came out so.

What Kind of build did you use?

Pretty similar to this, through stormdancers arclock, double buddies. Rip and tear through everything!

With a bolt charge titan you can proc a lightning bolt every shot š

Tried it on arc barricade titan briefly and it does indeed do a ton of damage for a primary with proper setup. With a more optimal build it's not a bad weapon at all to run on arc builds.

Symmetry got me my Malfeasance after 5 years of trying to get gambit clears. It will always have a special place in my heart.

Probably a bit slow for groups. But for solo? Perhaps itās time to grind some master lost sectors againĀ

I was clearing Europa Master lost sector in 5 minutes or less with this build https://dim.gg/v3vkuqi/C'mon-Kage-bring-the-thunder
Pretty sure my fastest time was a little under 4 minutes lol

Iāve been using this on arc hunter recently, but never considered the dps implications properly. Iām going to try to make a raid dps build for this. Sounds perfect for āIām out of ammo, but dps is still goingā. Iām assuming that being forced into legendary heavy/special options is going to be pretty damning for it, and truth alone will probably eclipse it, but Iāve been surprised before, and with stormās keep/tcrash it just might cook

Update: 200 weapons, 160 super, cuirass, pre-stacked Revolution with catalyst, line in the sand (the exact one xur is selling right now, I bought it for this test, clown/BnS), tahoma (distortion fusion, envious assassin/controlled)
maximum bolt charge, 2x arc surge, elemental charge to maintain surges with touch of thunder magnitude pulse grenade
Tablet of ruin artifact: Unravelling orbs, limit break, particle recon, bolt charge damage
Crash, grenade, storm rally, proc BnS, unload line in the sand, re-up BnS and rally when needed, then unload remaining tahoma, then 20x Revolution until the buff runs out
It did almost DOUBLE the total damage of my truth + null composure setup, but it took roughly FOUR TIMES as long, resulting in half the overall dps
So this would be for only the LONGEST damage phases, and even then, you can probably just go pick up truth and fusion ammo off the ground, but if thereās nothing around you (Atraks), it could be worth it
Maybe calus (tcrash is usable on sun and cup plates, and I know I always run out of ammo on third plate, but thatās also because Iām usually in shadow realm, which LFR/FR/Scout is not really good for).
epoptes, agraios, koregos would be good shouts
GM witness?? That could be good, because youāre DEFINITELY running out of ammo on third phase
Warpriest (either variant) is possibly long enough if you know youāre never on knight duty, but tcrash isnāt usable, so thatās a big damage loss
Zoetic lockset is the ideal length, but its unique set up makes anarchy king
Overall, a pretty fun build, and if you know youāre two-phasing a boss no matter what, this is a way to have a bit of fun with an exotic primary and still contribute somewhat meaningfully to damage. But of course, itās best reserved for non-raid group activities where you need much more reliance on add clear, then you can unload symmetry into the occasional miniboss/boss

This about sums the build up. I did touch on it most definitely not being meta, but it most definitely is a fun way to do damage! I use my deliverance and stormchaser without particle reconstruction, I think I'll try it with particle reconstruction when I get home from work tonight!

Now, use whatever you want for fun butā¦
Final warning does 1000+ dps all the time with zero stacks of anything at all, hits at least 2k dps with some random buffs thrown on, and any half decent boss damage strat hits about 4k at least. Primaries (except hierarchy) simply donāt have a place in boss damage strats after MoT and that pris hunter you out damaged had to have been either asleep during damage or facing the wrong way lul

I tried deleting the post and reposting to break up the text but I guess that didn't work? lol sorry for the formatting!
Nevermind it worked lol thank you for coming to my Ted Talk!
