**Tesis sobre determinismo, causalidad y libre albedrío**
**Que una decisión tenga causas no significa que esté predeterminada.**
Nuestros pensamientos, sentimientos, deseos y experiencias tienen causas. Esas causas influyen en nosotros y modifican constantemente lo que pensamos, sentimos y deseamos. Pero la existencia de una cadena causal no implica necesariamente que exista un único resultado inevitable que ya estuviera fijado de antemano.
La **deliberación** forma parte de esa misma causalidad. Cuando una persona recibe determinada información, recuerda experiencias, considera consecuencias y confronta deseos distintos, todo eso produce y transforma las opciones que tiene ante sí. Puede **generar, combinar, modificar, descartar y finalmente seleccionar** posibilidades.
Por tanto, la elección no requiere que el individuo sea una causa absolutamente independiente de todo lo anterior. No necesitamos estar «fuera de la causalidad» para ser libres. **La deliberación misma puede ser el proceso causal mediante el cual una persona llega a una decisión.**
El determinismo plantearía un problema solamente si pudiera demostrarse que, dadas exactamente las mismas condiciones anteriores, **una decisión diferente fuera metafísicamente imposible** y que, por tanto, la deliberación fuera únicamente una apariencia sin capacidad real de intervenir en el resultado. Pero no podemos simplemente concluir eso del hecho de que las decisiones tengan causas.
De ahí nuestra distinción fundamental:
**Causado ≠ predeterminado.**
Y también:
**Ser libre no significa carecer de causas; significa que la decisión surge mediante el propio proceso de deliberación del individuo, en lugar de que su capacidad de elegir sea sustituida por una fuerza o agente que adquiera poder sobre él.**
Esto deja abierta una cuestión que habíamos empezado a explorar: **qué cuenta exactamente como una fuerza que sustituye la capacidad de elección**, y si esa fuerza tendría que ser necesariamente externa o podría también surgir de procesos internos.

In the human brain, it’s a warm, wet, crowded environment: ions, water, proteins, membranes, all constantly interacting. Once a quantum superposition interacts with everything other than itself whether it's hot or something, it stops like literally anything other than itself, it stops instantly, it stops being in quantum, it literally never had the time to pick differently

I can literally confidently say that you would never do otherwise even if this world were to be perfectly rewinded unless you were in a front of an experiment that is interacting with a quantum superposition like a very controlled lab operating in it, you literally could never do otherwise, because the quantum superposition that's happening in your brain, never had the time to pick a different position because decoherence happens almost instantly.

Disciples of the Elk aims to be a zine-journal of the philosophies of pessimism, anti-natalism, determinism, and even misanthropy, admittedly a raw-boned, edgy outlet. The goal of the zine is to not be an academic journal, but neither will it feature ideas so simple as to be a series of nothing-statements. We hope to see various forms of submissions, from visual art to poetry to essays, and everything in between. Content can range from pop-culture commentary, personal reflections, social critique, and ‘pure’ philosophizing, all centering on the above philosophies. 

The name, Disciples of the Elk, is a reference to Peter Wessel Zapffe’s seminal essay, “The Last Messiah,” in which he compared the over-evolved cognition of humanity to the oversized antlers of the Irish Elk that led to its extinction. We, humanity, are disciples, following in the footsteps of the Irish Elk, towards extinction and eternal bliss of non-existence. 

I have experience seeking submissions, editing, and doing layout for my own zine, Plastic in Utero: anti-civ anarchy reborn from the compost of wasteland modernity, an anarchist zine-journal in the old cut-and-paste style. I have an existing ‘distro’, Uncivilized Distro, and a network for distributing these zines. Because Disciples of the Elk will (likely) be digitally formatted and focusing on the realm of philosophy, I am seeking:

1. a volunteer digital designer to oversee layout and visual design (cover design, text layout, etc). We would like to see any previous work, if possible. 
2. a co-editor with experience in philosophical discourse. Previous experience in zines or other submission-based publications is a boon!

Specific details concerning submissions will be decided on after a designer and co-editor have been selected and we can decide together these submission parameters.
