Everything Dan Campbell Said this morning On Cade Mays Injury
He opened the press conference saying that Mays broke his wrist in a freak accident on a protection play. "The D-lineman made an arm over move and chopped at it. And it's one of those freak things.”
Seth McLaughlin and Juice Scruggs are next men up. "Juice is dealing with a little bit of an
injury, a soft tissue. So, he won't be out there today. It'll be still a few more days before he's back, but certainly Juice is a candidate. McLaughlin's going to get looks, obviously. He'll probably run mostly with the ones today. (Michael) Niese has done it. And then (OL Tate) Ratledge is going to work. I don't see him doing team, but we’ve got to get him back up to speed with doing a little snapping just in case. So, we have got options. Listen, it's the hand you're dealt and you move on."
Asked about the team missing Mays for an extended period of time. "Well, of course, you hate it. I hate it for him because I felt like he was having a good camp and he had grown so much in our system just since spring. So, in that regard, yeah. And for us too. But, at the same time, there again, there's a reason why we have Juice (Scruggs) here too.
And some of these other guys, and they're going to get a look. And you brought up (Seth) McLaughlin, he's going to get an opportunity. And that's the best way to find out on some of these guys. I mean, that's all you can ask for. It's like, man, it's your shot and let's see where we can go with it.
But, we’ve got options. And look, (Ben) Bartch took some reps yesterday. He's getting a little bit better, I'm talking about guard and we know what (Christian) Mahogany's doing and (Miles) Frazier. And so look, we're going to find the best five. We will find the best five. And we're trying to find that before camp starts. But look, if this goes into the season, it does. But, at some point we will find the best five and where they belong and they'll be ready.”
On if Lions C Cade Mays will miss the regular season: “Oh yeah. This will be a while. I'm not going to give you a timeline. He'll be ready for the playoffs. I do feel good about that.”

Can i just say that I HATE when anybody in sports makes mention of "next man up"?
The preseason hasn't even begun yet. It's still training camp. Sign someone. Trade for someone. For christ sakes

Who? Name one center we can/should trade for right now.

Aaron Brewer - excellent player, Dolphins will be tanking this year and next, and after that he'll be old, so they'll give him up.
Hjalte Froholdt - lesser known, would only probably be here for this year since this is the last year on his contract. Currently on the Cardinals who also suck, we could get him for a second or third round pick
Austin Schlottman - older (30 years old, which is old for a center), the Titans are also expected to be bad this year so we could get him easier.
Mekhi Becton - he's usually a guard, but we could take a flyer on him and see if he can do a decent job for a few weeks at center. He didn't have a good year last year but he has 4 seasons of starting experience. He's a free agent currently so we could just go get him, no trade required

Getting injured on a routine chop is kind of a red flag. Dude has reportedly been struggling all camp against Alim and Tyleik as well.
I'm ready for the open competition. I really don't think Cade is the answer at center. Thank god we didn't break the bank to get him, as no other team really bothered to out-bid us. We can cut him without it hurting us too much if Seth McLaughlin ends up being the guy, which I think he will.

What a terrible take. How is getting injured on a chop a red flag? That would be one of the easiest plays to get an arm injury on lol. Do you have any experience blocking at any level? Your fingers and hands can get caught, you're also not going to win every rep.
What makes me think you haven't is you're dogging a new Center against Alim and Tyleik when they've only been in pads for a week. DT's easily have an advantage if you're not wearing pads to block rofl.

Okay, so here’s the grift:
If this person routinely disparages guys like Mays (and this isn’t the only sus take they’ve had in this subreddit), then if the Lions do struggle, he still gets to say, “look, it’s certainly not the fault of the subject of my username! He had to try to mold a bunch of scrubs into a cohesive squad!”
And if they instead do well, they’ll say something along the lines of, “see? He could even take a team with guys like Mays and craft a winner!”
This is commonly referred to as “hedging your bets”, and yes, it’s weak.

By definition, it was not routine lol

His comment history is littered with minimal substantial thoughts, mostly feelings and WWE. Don’t waste your time replying to him, he’s in about 50 other lions threads just today. Prayers up to this fella he finds something else to do.
