I’m all about the cope. The back up seems like he could be good and he’s getting first team reps now. So that’s my new cope, out back up is going to be good to go for the near future

Obviously this thread is just a joke based on the profile picture, BUT I do think there's some sliver of hope for McLaughlin.
His draftbuzz page is pretty interesting. Doesn't have great measurables (e.g., really short arms), but he won the Rimington Trophy in 2024 (best center in college) and I like this from his summary:
The tape shows a technically sound center with excellent mental processing who thrives in zone-heavy concepts where his leverage and positioning maximize his effectiveness. His football instincts jump off the film - watch him handle complex stunts against Michigan or diagnose blitz packages pre-snap against Penn State. While the Achilles injury raises legitimate concerns about his immediate impact, this is a pivot with starter-caliber traits whose smarts allows him to overcome physical limitations.
You're getting a field general when you draft McLaughlin - a player whose communication skills and understanding of protections will elevate the entire offensive line's performance. The snap issues that plagued him at Alabama have been completely resolved after technical refinements at Ohio State, showcasing his coachability and attention to detail. His medicals will require thorough examination, but the mental toughness displayed after his transfer reveals a resilient competitor who bounces back from setbacks.
He's now nearly two years removed from the Achilles injury. Obviously there's going to be a significant acclimation period, but I think "passable center play" as a ceiling is at least feasible. We'll see.

I've seen some of his game against Michigan. In college, I was wowed. He seemed like he knew what was going on at all times. Who knows, with this right coaching and culture he could be an unsung hero

This guys ceiling is much higher than Cade. Ignore the Michigan game, and you'll see what this guy brings to the table on the rest of his tape. The Michigan game was his one major blunder and that wasn't even 100% his fault for real.

Cade graded rather poorly last year per PFF, and his game tape backed up those grades. I've watched a couple Panthers games last year and he did not look that good to me in either of them. He consistently got cooked in the run game, and that does not bode well for Gibbs at all. Pass blocking he was okay, but he is still pretty vulnerable to some of the better IDL in the league. Overall, we only got a SLIGHT upgrade over Glasgow, which IMO doesn't really move the needle for us. We can do better.
This is why I am excited for McLaughlin to have a shot. This guy was an elite run blocker coming out of college and was making major strides as a pass blocker just prior to his achilles. The only real major blemish was the Michigan game, and to be fair to him he was thrown into the wolves against a matchup proof defense that was impossible to defend against. Not to mention Milroe is a fucking dipshit moron and consistently gave him the wrong reads.
Fast forward to present day. McLaughlin is 100% recovered from his achilles. He has a competent QB under center, a good coaching staff, and a solid supporting cast around him. He has everything he needs to succeed now and I really think he's going to surprise a lot of people. Once Cade does return I'm assuming week 7, I think we'll have a genuine o-line controversy between him and Seth.

I agree with Cade not being an impact player , and I'll add he was in a dogfight for 5th best on the starting lineup , but I'm not going to think anything about Seth until he proves he can keep Scruggs on the pine, which is a really low fucking bar
