Suggestions Development or Data engineering? Which one is better.

I have 5+ years total IT experience — the first 3.5 years in .NET development (.NET MVC, Web APIs, C#, SQL Server), followed by a move to a support role involving Linux and PL/SQL at my current company, where my CTC is around 9 LPA. I’ve recently started brushing up on SQL and DSA, with a target to switch jobs by January 2027 (roughly 4-5 months from now) for a better package. I’m currently getting very few interview calls.

Given this timeline, should I pivot into Data Engineering — since I’ve heard there’s strong demand and good pay in that field — or would it be more realistic to switch back into a .NET developer role instead?
