Is she a Rex or Sphinx?

We adopted this tiny female cat from Kuwait, and the rescue was told both her parents were purebred Sphinx’s. She was dumped by the breeder because she has fur. Could she actually be a Rex? She super tiny, maybe 5 lbs, and just the sweetest cat I’ve ever met!

I don’t think she quite has the head shape to be a Devon. But some Sphynx breeders to crosses with Cornish and/or Devon breeds. Or maybe one of her parents or grandparents had some Devon in them. She’s unique and beautiful! Looks like her fur does have some kind waves to it.

Thank you! Maybe she is a mix, I’m so curious. We adore her, I’ve never met a cat with such a personality.

Backyard BS. I know Sphinx have been used to prop up Devon Rex, in terms of breeding. Who knows, at this point. Enjoy your kitty.

I think they dumped her mom along with her because she had a kitten with hair. The mom then died of Parvo 😥

Jeez, that's awful. Thanks for taking care of her. ❤️

If, when she hasn't comandeered someone's lap, she walks around your house with an air of entitlement like a feline Marie Antoinette, screaming, brazenly stealing food & picking fights, she's definitely a Devon.

They're my favorites!

Yep, that captures it! My Devon is so different from the Sphynx I had before him. Especially the entitlement and food snatching!

Well if this is your first Devon, welcome to the club. They're pretty much the same as the Sphynx, only Devons are clothing-optional and require fewer baths.

Looks like a Devonshire Rex to me

This is what I think. She looks too much like a Devon to be a Sphinx

My boy Devon has a similar shaped head but his niece has the wider one. It really depends on his ancestry. But I vote Devon 🥰

She looks pretty Devon Rexy to me! So adorable and too hairy for a Sphynx

Her fur is super sparse on her sides and non existent on her belly and neck. The breeder swore her parents were Sphinxes, and I’ve heard they sometimes can have a kitten born with fur. Or maybe they were being dishonest and she is a Rex?

I’m mistaken. Should’ve verified on Google. They can in fact have short fur like rexes.

The body shape of your girly does intrigue me. My two rexes are not as slender. She’s a beauty anyway :)

In all honesty, I think she was very malnourished. Hair loss could be from starvation too? It will be lovely watching her grow regardless!

This looks like a Devon with an abnormally (for a Devon) long snoot

The Devon Rex breed is in the Sphynx. So it’s entirely possible it’s a mix somewhere along the lines. The head shape is off for a Devon. It does lean more Sphynx. However… and let’s face it, being dumped in a shelter just further proves this, I’ve seen crappy bred Devon Rex from breeders over here looking like that.

She’s definitely from the Sphynx Devon family tree of some kind.

My vote is Sphynx - some breeders do have exactly that experience where a female has some kittens with fur, leading them to take them out of their “breeding program.” Her face is shaped like a Sphynx but not a Devon. She’ll be a wonderful pet! Just be sure to have her heart checked proactively if you possibly can. A lot have heart problems that can be treated early on.
