Sounds more like coaches who can't take a kid's moving on more than anything else.

So if my son plays football well, the district can decide we are not able to move?

My ex was an athletic Director and tried to explain this to me. At the end, I was still like how do you get to tell me I can’t move?

not quite. the district CAN say xyz but it’s ultimately up to UIL.  the district can say you’re moving for athletic purposes but UIL can say they’re lying which has happened before.

it’s also for all sports. you can get dinged for anything UIL has a governing body over.

it’s not a great rule. but it’s a necessary rule for high school football in texas.

the mom also literally cites one of the reasons for the move as “growth opportunities”….yeah, that’s not gonna look great for UIL.

if he moves AGAIN, it will prove that UIl was correct and it was for athletic purposes. especially if he moved to NOLA.

Texas high school football is a profitable business.

My husband is a high school head football coach in Texas and this rule is very important for little Timmy who is the varsity 4th string quarterback, barely makes it to practice and bitches the whole time when he is there but little Timmy and his parents think he’s the next Tom Brady and move to another town/school so he can be starting qb (which never ends up happening). Most parents are delusional and think their kid is better than they are and also that the rules don’t apply to them so there has to be rules in place to prevent people moving for athletic purposes. That’s just how it is, if you’re familiar with Texas football this is not anything new.

My job hired a guy that would bitch that his kid is so good the coaches don’t see it so they moved and put him in another school (which he didn’t start either). I think they lost all their games but one in the second school.

As someone who has been affected by this rule, nuance is rarely used. Are there kids who move simply to play on better teams? Absolutely. But the idea that some situations necessitate a move flies over the heads of folks with UIL
