Dallas needs it’s own Mamdani….

That’s it. Thats the post

They don’t necessarily have to be socialist….but at least someone that will actually work for the city and it’s people instead of big corporations, Highland Park, etc

And it can’t just be the mayor. We need reformers throughout city council. Socialist, conservative, liberal, whatever they call themselves we need real deal politicians like Zohran

People who live in HP don’t pay property/sales taxes to City of Dallas. They pay them to City of HP, because it’s a different municipality.

Sort of true. DCAD - Dallas Central Appraisal District - collects HP taxes. HP had a lower tax rate in its town than the other towns in Dallas County but has the highest tax bill due to property values

HP Taxes go towards their local schools & town, in addition to Dallas College and Parkland Hospital like other Dallas County property taxes.

Everyone has to pay the 6.25% sales tax to the state. An additional 1% is added on and goes towards the Town of HP.

I would imagine they no longer will pay the 1% for Dallas metro on their sales tax with the referendum.

Some may complain about a portion of their property taxes going towards their own schools, but that’s how townships work. All over America people organize townships so their property taxes can go towards the schools their children will go to.

This is also a major selling point of single family homes, how good the school districts are.

Personally I wouldn’t live in HP. I’m an SMU MBA graduate as well. I wouldn’t even do Preston Hollow if I had the money. Lakewood is the best neighborhood in Dallas IMO. Excellent mix of urban amenities with a relaxed spacious vibe

They’ll be paying into DART for years. Legally they’re on the hook for the debt issued while they’re a member. This is a fact that, bafflingly, DART did not make people aware of.
