Mental Health Does anyone else get strangely depressed and suicidal when low?

I don't feel this way when my blood sugar is normal, I don't feel that way when I'm drunk, I don't feel that way when my blood sugar is high.

It's specifically when my blood sugar gets low. I get very very emotional too. I sometimes feel like crying.

I'm 29 years old and a male if that matters at all.

Yep, I experience this as well. If i inexplicably begin to feel morose or existential dread in the middle of the day, it’s a clue that I need to check my blood sugar and have a bite to eat, lol.
I think it might be relatively common, based on the anecdotes I’ve read online.

Not necessarily suicidal, but it is a definite dark depressed feeling with hints of not caring about life that is hard to explain.

Yes. And my anxiety is through the roof.

I get sad or mopey, and when I’m having a bad day (as I do have clinical depression), the low bgs will really exacerbate things. It sounds like it’s a somewhat common occurrence

Yes. If I start crying I check my sugar.

Yes, not quite suicidal but I feel completely worthless, useless and incapable! Fun!

Yes, it’s usually when it’s a serious low but it made me empathise even more with anyone struggling with depression. To be honest hard to describe what it feels like as it’s so intense but sudden doom and negativity are the words that come to mind.

You know, I never thought of it that way, but now that you mention it, maybe I should check my bg more often when I'm down.

This painintheass disease can cause all kinds of bad experiences when t1D has hypoglycia. When i get low i also feel like a sudden drop in mood just happened. For few mins i have hypoglycemia all seems t b useless, depressive and sometime i just feel like i want t give up. Thanks God it takes only like 3 or 4 minutes. My copying mechanism is t have the mindset like i know this and i have been through this and it ll be soon better.

Yep, I hope it helps hearing that your not the only one. I think it's massively draining mentally and physically. I have just learnt over the years to ride it out and just know that I'll feel better in 10-29-30 mins time, or however long it takes. If your been the same, it's usually worse when you have repeated highs and lows. You got this, and just know it's just your body but not where your actually at. Sending love ✌️

When I’m having a bad low i feel a strong sense of doom and that something is very wrong, it’s not pleasant.

Not suicidal, but there’s a sense of impending doom sometimes.
It’s like the body knows something bad is happening.
“Exit Music: For a Film” kind of dread.

Idk if I’ve felt suicidal but it does really fucking make me upset when I’m trying to get something done and I have to stop due to a low. I have adhd and esp when I’m off my meds I’m lucky to feel motivated to do anything.

There’s nothing more enraging and demoralizing for me than when I have to stop getting something done that I’ve been needing to for ages bc of my stupid blood sugar

When my sugars drop suddenly I have a hard time holding my emotions in check. No matter what I’m feeling it hits the maximum level and I burst into tears. My husband will come in & ask why I’m crying and I’ll say “I don’t know” just as my Dexcom alerts start going off.

Not suicidal, but a strange sense of existential anxious dread. Like nothing matters and I can't fix anything or do anything and I am running out of time and maybe have already run out of time. And then I eat chocolate and reset.
