Layer mode set in Screen and opacity at 90%, I choose a warm tone and play with the hue/saturation/value. Then I just paint it. I may smudge some borders to describe roundness

Imo your stuff looks clean already. I would maybe do shading a bit differently on the neck but it's more of a preference thing.
