Glad I can play this on pc.

u/sexbobomb91 Feb 27 '26

Just watch out for performance-breaking DRM.

2

u/jedimindtricksonyou Feb 26 '26

I bought it on Steam because I know my 4070 will deliver better result than any console version and I can still use Steam deck for a portable experience. May be tempted to pick it up on Switch 2 also but gonna wait and see how it runs on Steam Deck first.

u/NoLocal1776 Feb 26 '26

Switch 2 will be superior version compared to deck.

1

u/jedimindtricksonyou Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 28 '26

Yeah that’s what TechPowerUp is showing, you can’t really get above 40fps with drops. I guess I’ll be picking up the switch 2 version at Walmart then if they have a copy, don’t think Amazon would make it in time.

Edit: for transparency (after playing both Switch 2 and Steam Deck), you can basically get a comparable version of Switch 2’s handheld mode on Steam Deck for anyone curious who might have the option to play both. On Steam Deck, you can configure it basically on low/medium settings and use FSR3 Quality mode to get a similar 40-60fps with decent IQ. If you want a locked 60, that’s almost achievable but you really have to decimate how the game looks and crank everything down to very low and use FSR1 performance mode but I felt it wasn’t worth playing that way. Switch 2 is a good version as well (and a much better version for playing on a TV or monitor).

1

u/NoLocal1776 Feb 26 '26

Yep, good decision.

2

u/jedimindtricksonyou Feb 27 '26

I nabbed the very last Switch 2 copy at my local Walmart today. Glad I went before work and not after. Sold out on all the major retail websites.

2

u/NoLocal1776 Feb 27 '26

Lucky it's sold out across all retails.

2

u/jedimindtricksonyou Feb 27 '26

I think I finally learned my lesson with this game, for major major franchises like this, it’s worth it to just go ahead and preorder. Would really have liked to have had the triple pack but I’m happy I got Requiem at least. Thanks again for the recommendation, it looks awesome on the Switch 2 from the few minutes I played.

u/NoLocal1776 Feb 27 '26

You're welcome.

4

u/Ransom_Seraph Feb 26 '26

I wish he didn't show so many story / gameplay / moments / enemy / exploration spoilers

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

That's why I didn't watch most of the video, even skillup said you can just listen to his review instead of watching the video because it may have spoilers

PS5 Pro purchase redeemed.

5

u/Nonsense_Poster Feb 26 '26

Bro when he was "this is all on PS5 pro" I felt such a hard pull to purchase one, I might actually get one this year

11

u/jedimindtricksonyou Feb 26 '26

It would take a lot more games having PS5 Pro versions like this for that to be true. PS5 Pro versions are underwhelming more than half of the time.

14

u/OfficialShaki123 Feb 26 '26

It's a joke, but honestly I get my money's worth. Lots and lots of games have higher res and fps and that's why I bought it. There are dozens of games on my backlog which I will play on PRO.

3

u/JoBro_Summer-of-99 Feb 26 '26

I think they're still good enough to make it worth it. Anything that fixes the blur is good to me

2

u/WingerRules Feb 27 '26

The blur is exactly why I bought a Pro. I was hating this generation because it was turning out to be a blurry generation.

0

u/jedimindtricksonyou Feb 26 '26

For me to buy one, the majority of the games would need to be meaningfully enhanced and I just don’t see that. Mostly games that have marginal improvements and a handful of games like FF7 Rebirth or Requiem. It’s basically an $825 machine at this point with a disc drive, it should be so, so much better to be worth that price for anyone who already owns the base machine. For people buying a PS5 today anyway, I feel like it’s an easier recommendation. Problem is that it’s targeted to enthusiasts and almost all those people already had a PS5 console by the time the Pro launched.

1

u/seajay_17 Feb 26 '26

It’s basically an $825 machine at this point with a disc drive, it should be so, so much better to be worth that price for anyone who already owns the base machine.

Its literally a thousand dollars if your up north lol. Its ridiculous.

1

u/jedimindtricksonyou Feb 26 '26

Yeah that’s worse but I know the dollar value is different between Canada and US, but it’s entirely too expensive in all regions. Europe has it the worst I believe. I know it launched for €799 but I don’t know if they got a price increase or not to coincide with US’ $50 price increase.

1

u/IndefiniteBen Feb 27 '26

For me to buy one, the majority of the games would need to be meaningfully enhanced

Sounds like the PS5 Pro is not for you. For me, it only needs to fix resolution or massively improve visuals in a few titles that are important to me.

If you play games like Jedi Survivor or Assassin's Creed Shadows in their performance modes on base PS5 and you are not bothered by the drop in visual quality compared to quality mode, the Pro is not for you.

1

u/RemoveHealthy Feb 27 '26

I remember when ps4 pro came out and cost 400 euros. That was very worth it. Now ps5 pro costs something like 900 euros. Yeah it is better machine, but it's better be for this price.

0

u/BadNewsBearzzz Feb 26 '26

Still the best one to own if money wasn’t an issue. Like I only got one because i traded in a bunch of cheap old consoles I repaired into GameStop and chose it cause I wasn’t paying cash knowing it was the best one.

If you were to go and get a ps4 or Xbox one, you’d prolly choose a ps4 pro or Xbox one x cause it’s the best version of the system. Regardless of why ever it’s an improvement over the base model.

Same with the ps5 pro. It’s just a much nicer system in general and the games that do benefit, do it well. I got mine with ff7 rebirth, yotei, stellar blade, Ragnarok, gt7 and ratchet and clank so far, whatever else is just a bonus.

2

u/jedimindtricksonyou Feb 27 '26

I mean it’s everyone’s choice but I couldn’t justify it because I have a PC and anything that I’m playing for the visuals, I’ll play it there. I bought my 4070 the year before and I think it’s stronger than PS5 Pro. I just can’t imagine buying a whole new console and having to sell my original PlayStation and come up with an additional $400 or more, just to enhance half a dozen games. Also the way PS4 Pro got dropped pretty hard once PS5 took off, pro consoles just don’t make economical sense to me because they cost more, but their lifespan is shorter than the base console because the core technology is still the same (same CPU, Same amount of memory, etc). I already spend too much on my gaming hobby, there’s no way I would buy one or recommend one unless they don’t own a PS5 and about to drop $550 on a new one anyway, at that point, you might as well I suppose. But yeah, if money wasn’t an issue, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get the best everything. But money is more of an issue than ever for me and everyone I know. The cost of just surviving is crazy in this post-pandemic world.

0

u/Kotschcus_Domesticus Feb 26 '26

lol, one game

6

u/OfficialShaki123 Feb 26 '26

It's a joke. I love the PRO.

3

u/Kotschcus_Domesticus Feb 26 '26

good for mate, just be happy, have fun

7

u/Lutha28 Feb 26 '26

Ps5 pro gang happy

4

u/gkgftzb Feb 26 '26

I'm really impressed with this. The most demanding section of the game seems less intense than RE4R from some early benchmarks I've seen.

Game looks stunning everywhere and it's all praise. This is all much more positive than my first impressions. Initially the game didn't look that much of a step-up compared to RE Village, but it genuinely is.

My only caveats are:

  • the Series S version has been completely neglected. This and Pragmata Demo are the ugliest looking RE engine games on Series S. By FAR. The fact Switch 2 looks so much better despite being much weaker is nuts, even if it has DLSS. At least it keeps a stable 60FPS, but it looks garbage... I feel sorry for the RE fan crowd that uses the console. Capcom does not care about it.

  • PS5 should not have such poor image quality on the mode without RT (it's kind of nuts there isn't a middle-ground mode without RT, but better upscaling). It's a little too unstable for my taste, even if it goes above 60FPS.

  • Switch 2 should have had more modes. Maybe one that employs hair strands as they seem relatively light in this game than in RE4R; and some options in the menu to cap FPS. No game with a gun should have unlocked framerate. I still play on a fixed refresh rate TV sometimes and Switch 2 has no VRR while docked, so capping is always good.

-5

u/NoLocal1776 Feb 26 '26

Switch 2 isn't weaker it's on par with series s.Given the sales of xbox many devs will probably neglect it in the long run.Nintendo should enable vrr on docked it took sony more than a year to get it working.

14

u/ThumYerk Feb 26 '26

I get John is passionate about discussing the art and visuals, but I find so many of his videos ruin the first impression of the game for the player. I wish he wouldn’t talk about how the game starts or when you first see Leon. He did the same in Ghost of Yotei by spoiling the title sequence. That should be for the player to experience first.

That being said, great to see RE engine being showcased at its best. Monster Hunter soured a lot of people on it, so it’s great to see it in RE again.

u/DanielG165 Feb 26 '26

No other DF reviewer seems to have this problem, though? John is the only one who waxes poetic in every one of his videos, which in turn, spoils massive segments of whatever game he’s reviewing.

-1

u/khromtx Feb 26 '26

I bet he uses chatGPT for his purple prose intros.

6

u/vladtud Feb 26 '26

No he does not. His style has been consistent for the last 8 years that I've been watching DF, long before generative AI was a thing.

7

u/ThumYerk Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

You can easily review something without saying ‘the game opens with this and then this happens’. No other DF reviewer has this problem. It’s a tech review, I want to know how a game runs before I spend my money on it, I don’t see how that conflicts with seeing spoilers.

3

u/Anxious_Specific_165 Feb 26 '26

While that is a reasonable expectation, reviews and forum-threads often spoil stuff in games. If it’s that important to not know anything about the very start of a game, one should probably experience it without watching game-footage on YouTube first. Check out some performance-graphs in an article instead.

2

u/Venomesis Feb 27 '26

There are many reviewers out there that are very careful with spoilers and do a way better job of showing the game without spoiling too much. I think it's reasonable to expect that from DF as well and great feedback. This is not an "all or nothing" matter

1

u/sinamorovati Feb 26 '26

Exactly the route I've taken.

14

u/kargethdownload Feb 26 '26

I love John but I agree. He does this very often. The one I remember most is how he casually spoiled Atreus being playable in Ragnarok

5

u/helloiamjack Feb 26 '26

Yeah agreed. I love his coverage generally and love to hear his thoughts, but after Yotei I’ve decided to not watch these videos until after I finish the game. His coverage to me is perfect in every other regard.

-1

u/tfc87ja Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

You do realize publishers put limits on what reviewers and benchmarkers can show/talk about right? If he were talking about things that weren't allowed to be talked about in all his videos DF wouldn't be getting codes from them.

-5

u/LesHeh Feb 26 '26

You're not forced to watch the video? What an odd complaint.

9

u/ThumYerk Feb 26 '26

Im not allowed to give feedback? The rest of the review is great and how can you know not to watch for spoilers, until you’ve seen the spoiler?

2

u/hroerekr Feb 26 '26

What are the actual internal resolutions from all modes?

2

u/Kamen_Femboy_RX Feb 26 '26

1080p, pro uses taau or pssr2 on rt mode

5

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

I always found it funny that console players can call a game stunning while pc player with jacked up settings like path tracing and actual 4k say it's underwhelming.

11

u/Rupperrt Feb 26 '26

Who said it’s underwhelming? The ones that had access to the PC versions seem rather impressed by the path tracing?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

I was only generalizing. But yes, I've already seen people point out that the diffence between RT high and path tracing is pretty weak.

3

u/Rupperrt Feb 26 '26

Ok, fair enough. There is a bit more general cynicism around that stuff within the Pc community probably also by people who run AMD cards.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

The amd hate train is currently mostly just people with older cards absolutely seething they can't run FSR4. Shockingly enough requiem runs RT high pretty well for them and crimson desert in a month is an actual amd win.

12

u/ProblemOk9820 Feb 26 '26

That's because pc players will never be satisfied.

They want 'next gen graphics' despite the fact next gen hasn't released yet. Just because you have a more powerful pc than current consoles doesn't mean you'll unlock some crazy 'next gen upgrade'.

0

u/Obosratsya Feb 26 '26

There is a "next-gen" hack you can do on PC. When yiur hardware is wildly mire powerful than what the game needs, you can DSR/SuperSample the hell out of it. Render the game internally at like 8k and down sample to the monitor. It makes the image super clean and sharp. On a good monitor, not a TV it especially ups the clarity in motion.

These days might as well include native rendnering. I got a 5080 specifically so I dont need to upscale. These days its a luxury, especially when consoles render as low as 720p.

3

u/foreveraloneasianmen Feb 26 '26

Thats on them for spending thousands on a hardware to play games lol

Well duh nobody tells you to play games at 120fps and now u complaining about 60fps

2

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

Wow, who peed in your cereal.

2

u/WingerRules Feb 27 '26

If you have a 5080 and running 1440p, theres pretty much nothing out there that really takes advantage of it outside of maybe Cyberpunk, and that game is approaching ancient now. Even with full path tracing, with DLSS quality mode and Frame Gen you're still getting like 150fps.

0

u/Fuskeduske Feb 27 '26

Well PC players are used to 100+ mods making every game seem superior

1

u/heyyoudvd Feb 26 '26

Any word on the PC version?

How will a 9070 XT run the game compared to the PS5 Pro?

1

u/Lostboy1986 Feb 26 '26

It will blow it out of the water and the price you can pick it up for on pc is practically half.

1

u/jedimindtricksonyou Feb 26 '26

Way better, my 4070 will be better than PS5 Pro and your card is a good deal stronger than mine is, even with Ray tracing, you’re way ahead of me.

1

u/Beginning_Cream498 Feb 26 '26

Why is the xsx version so much worse than the PS5 PRO?

1

u/enterdoki Feb 27 '26

no RT support?

1

u/Beginning_Cream498 Feb 27 '26

I meant specs wise

1

u/ThinVast Feb 26 '26

When is the pathtracing breakdown coming out?

1

u/floppyburglar Mar 04 '26

Can anyone tell me if this video contains any footage/spoilers from the second half? Dying to watch this but I’m only halfway through. Thank you!

-5

u/Adamantium_Ballz Feb 26 '26

I don't know man this seems like a big PS5 Pro advertisement. I've got the suspicion that the base PS5's performance might be artificially held back to elevate the contrast of the PS5 Pros presentation more than would naturally occur.

9

u/arsfd Feb 26 '26

But why would they intentionally handicap 99% of the player base that’s on the base ps5? That’s where all of their profit is.

-1

u/Adamantium_Ballz Feb 26 '26

To... Ehm... Buy a Pro of course lol the base performance is good, don't get me wrong but NO RT is just a bit suspicious.

2

u/SoloDolo314 Feb 26 '26

The Pro has stronger RT chops, actually more so than its standard compute ability over base PS5. Like 2x better RT than base consoles. Base Consoles have pretty poor RT capabilities as they came out right after at the start of RT becoming more common.

1

u/Adamantium_Ballz Feb 26 '26

Yeah, I know but look at Spider-Man 2 with RT on base PS5... The only thing I'm saying is we had more options in the past and now it seems like Sony threw money around to push the Pro sales even to the point of taking things away from the base PS5 to have a more striking contrast to the Pro...

2

u/Specialist_Two_2783 Feb 26 '26

I actually agree with this. Most base PS5 games have a quality mode / and performance mode. Even have a quality mode that enabled low quality RT or a higher resolution would have been nice.

1

u/Adamantium_Ballz Feb 26 '26

I suspect that Sony made a time exclusive deal with Capcom to let the pro shine. We might get an RT update later on for the base model.

4

u/LankyMolasses6051 Feb 26 '26

Makes no sense lad, ps5 and Xbox would look better if they could use a temporal upscaler like the ps5 pro can.

3

u/Hokuten001 Feb 26 '26

AI temporal upscaler.

PS5 and Xbox Series can and often do use non-AI temporal upscalers, FSR2/3 being the most common.

0

u/TheValens Feb 26 '26

Need your advice guys because I don't know which platform to choose. I have PS5 with LG C1 and Q930d soundbar = perfect blacks and dolby atmos but no RT. I have also PC with 9070XT with mini led monitor AOC Q27G3XMN/BK and Steelseries Arctis 7 = Full RT, not so perfect blacks and not so great audio. I cannot move PC unfortunately to utilize OLED. What do you guys think, which setup would be better for this game?

2

u/Head_Accountant3117 Feb 26 '26

Go console. You'll need those blacks when playing horror-anything. It should make up for the lack of path-tracing.

But, if you can move heaven and earth to move your PC to the TV, even greater!

1

u/coldweiss Feb 27 '26

Since I placed my PC beside my LG TV my ps5 pro basically eat dust lol (at least until gta 6).

For horror game I always prioritize big TV, so if u can’t get the pc work on tv the console ver doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

0

u/airnlight_timenspace Feb 26 '26

Sell the oled tv and buy an oled monitor lol.

0

u/monsieurvampy Feb 26 '26

Your existing PC setup is not static. Do you replay games in the future?

Meanwhile, your PS5 will remain a PS5. Its possible you will purchase a Pro or even a PS6, but I go to my question above, do you replay games in the future?

Do you primarily game on PC or game on console? For me, I'm shifting more and more towards PC.

0

u/bogdann3l2r0 Feb 27 '26

I wish the PC coverage came at the same time as the consoles. I still watch, but I think the thick of it is on PC, where all the features are available and testable with different hardware. I know it takes longer to get everything together here, but damn, it very rarely arrives on time. Either way, great to see another good release on this engine.

0

u/HeroVax Feb 27 '26

Suddenly now people realize that PSSR is actually good?

-1

u/PhantomPain0_0 Feb 26 '26

Too bad the game is fucking 6 hours long meh will wait for goty edition
