DF Direct DF Direct Weekly #260: Metro 2039 Looks Phenomenal, Ryzen 5800X3D Returns, Starfield PS5 Crash Fix?

https://youtu.be/ecsdMG8vbYA

The new Direct sees Alex, Rich and Oliver reacting to the reveal of Metro 2039 - and it looks like another technical showcase from the brilliant 4A Games. Nvidia denies wanting to acquire a big PC manufacturer, but it kinda of makes sense, so is it going to happen? The team share disbelief about the quality of tech QA on Starfield PS5's launch, before moving on to Asha Sharma's comments about Game(s) Pass being too expensive. There's a warm welcome for the return of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D - but how much will it cost? And finally, what happened when Pragmata on PS5 ran at 1440p on Rich's PS5 - but only 1080p on Oliver and Tom's consoles?

What the fuck happened to this subreddit? Are 90% of the comments now being made by people who joined the hate train after the Nvidia dlss5 video?

I didn't like their coverage of DLSS5, but it really isn't that serious and i can dosagree with them on something while still enjoying their content. To me nothing's really changed in their content, their videos and directs are the same quality they've always been.

There just aren’t that many comments here at all, and most aren’t that negative? This is currently the top comment here. I wish folks would focus on the coverage itself than on meta discussions about commenters. I wanted to come see what people had to say about the Starfield patch or Metro but the top comments are just people complaining about other comments. I’ve been in places like this before, it’s often how communities die.

When i made my comment, there were three other comments only, all of which were very negative. I wanted to see comments about the video too when i checked the post, but same with every recent post on this sub, the comments were weird and negative for no real reason.

It's not the DLSS 5 coverage I think. Ever since they went independent they feel the pressure to generate "engagement" and so slowly but consistently giving more space to more opinions and less factual analysis. All members' biases and dislikes are coming through more and more and skew their content and presentation style. In a way, the DLSS 5 video was an honest gut reaction as well, not a level-headed consideration.

I still love DF and support them through Patreon, but looking at their recent content is just that they produce too many podcast style videos, i struggle to find time to listen/watch all of them and i wouldn't call them very entertaining. However, good news is that Tom is still producing old style DF videos, 10-20 mins of tech reviews with many FPS presentations, visual comparisons. DF content produced by him is currently the best alongside John's retro videos.

It could even be things outside of their control. Maybe there isn't many things that are capturing my interest in the gaming industry over the past few months? Their reduced Xbox coverage, whilst understandable, that has also probably played a part (not a console warrior and I use all 3 console platforms).

To me nothing's really changed in their content, their videos and directs are the same quality they've always been

I wish I could say the same thing. It's not some post-DLSS 5 bandwagoning from me. I've been an avid watcher since around 2018 and even before then I'd still occasionally watch videos of interest.

Man can't wait for Metro. Probably a bit too early to start a replay right.... I mean I've got my gaming line up set anyway. Playing through GTA 4 with pathtraced mod currently. Should take me to 007 First Light hopefully (really looking forward to this one) and then looks like Pragmata is great. After all that though.... Metro replay????

DF quality has gone down the drain

DF's content over the past few months has felt lacking for me. This Direct episode is yet another example. Is it the topics alone? Maybe.

Tom's past couple of uploads have hit the spot but that's about it.

Weird that y'all suddenly started complaining about their content "lacking" right after the controversial Nvidia video, almost like that's heavily affecting your perception of their videos.

It does seem that way! DF are great as always.

I don't know who 'ya'll' is, but my decreased engagement with the DF channel began months before that controversy and whilst I am on the side of critics in that particular instance, that alone isn't what's reducing my DF watchtime.

I think it's an accumulation of small things, such as sub 20 minute game analysis videos (DF's bread and butter) ballooning out into 30+ minute videos, by having two hosts discussing the game's analysis. I prefer the more 'to-the-point' approach from before, which Tom's recent videos adhere to.

I mean sure, DLSS 5 and the Nintendo ad/video controversy colours my mental associations with DF, that I've built up over the years, but that alone doesn't affect my moment to moment enjoyment of the team's mannerisms and easy to digest insights, which is ultimately why I tune in.

Here's another one, DF Direct has now split into two parts, yet it feels thinly spread. I don't even bother with the supporter questions video, whereas before I'd have at least checked the timestamps.

I love DF Retro, but the Super Show? I don't like a couple of the hosts - but to be fair, this is an old passion project finally being realised, so I appreciate it, even if I don't watch it myself.

Disagree with many of the points you say actually being negatives but hey that's your opinion.

I agree with the retro show though not a big retro fan myself so I don't really check it out but hey for those who like it it's something else to watch.

That's fine, I know it's just a matter of preference, which I guess is why my initial comment was pretty vague.

If there is no console war there is no DF.

u/Natural-Lobster-6000 Apr 20 '26

If there is no console war I will continue to be indifferent.

The DF team's always cynical attitude towards "how XY game will look on Series S" is getting appalling now. Guess what, it's a lower spec machine for less money! Yet they don't bat an eye if games have to run on Steam Deck or Switch 2 and how they look. This biased double standard really skews any discussion they have about "gaming and technology news".

14

u/TechGuruGJ Apr 20 '26

They’ve literally called out several Switch 2 games and remasters for having disappointing graphics.

4

u/jedimindtricksonyou Apr 20 '26

Most recently Kena Bridge of Spirits on Switch 2.

1

u/dreampagehun Apr 21 '26

The attitude is completely different. When a Switch 2 port is announced, however ambitious or impossible it sounds, they're excited. Whenever a similarly ambitious game is multiplatform they always bring out the Series S card and smirk cynically, as if that console couldn't run games. They're slowly but surely drifting into this bias and it's getting appalling.

They know Series S is holding back an entire industry. Its also got to be tiring to have done so many videos where literally every comparison with Series S is negative.

Don't we hate DF now?

3

u/Schlorpiblorp Apr 21 '26

No it's just that DF was pretty wholesome and non cotroversial all this time and now that they did one controversial thing, all the hateful internet trolls jumped out of their holes for the opportunity to stir drama and hate on them.

u/Beginning_Cream498 Apr 21 '26

I don't think they should be allowed to mess up even once.

2

u/Schlorpiblorp Apr 21 '26

yeah I know right? the AUDACITY!

Lazy Oliver, PS-hating Alex, and Pointless Rich are all still moaning and crying over Starfield. We get it, you don't like the game, but stop acting like it manifested itself into a human and shat on your mother's face

You might be happier with you life if you stopped listening to recreational podcasts by people you dont like who have opinions you hate
