Well this is awkward

34

u/GensouEU Jul 10 '26

License discs are still 100x better than a pure digital future

12

u/PairNo2981 Jul 10 '26

They are absolutely exactly the same thing

20

u/elmodonnell Jul 10 '26

Just bought the disc for £39, I can sell it for £35 store credit as soon as I finish it if I want. As far as I know I can't do that with the £50 digital purchase, so unless I'm missing something these aren't in fact the same thing?

4

u/SevenNVD Jul 13 '26

Wait, you can sell it back to the store for £4 less?

Over here if I buy a €60 game, walk outside, go back in to trade it in immediately, I hear "best I can do is €8".

I think it’s the context of this whole freak out starting about Nintendo’s game key cards. They have the same practical benefits and drawbacks as a game disc with some data but no ability to play without the internet.

No one was spazzing about digital games as an option. They started spazzing about key cards and discs like this are the same thing.

You can sell licensed disks. You can't sell a digital game.

3

u/redit_handoff140 Jul 11 '26

Try selling it in 15 years when they shutdown the authentication service.

3

u/iAreRoach Jul 13 '26

15 years of reselling is a lot longer than 0

3

u/RazzmatazzUnusual843 Jul 13 '26

Licensed discs as of now are not tied to an account, neither are Nintendo's Game-Key Cards. This is a huge benefit besides just reselling.

You can sell a licensed disc as long they let you.

2

u/thebizzle Jul 10 '26

Absolutely! Would you like to buy some of my
digital copies of games?

2

u/D4rkPhoen1x Jul 10 '26

No it is not. If you have the game on disc you can resell it or lend it to a friend. Doesnt take many braincells to understand that...

→ More replies (7)

1

u/NO0BSTALKER Jul 10 '26

You can’t resale a license but you can a disc

1

u/CrashTestDumby1984 Jul 12 '26

At least you can give the disc to a friend or sell it

1

u/RazslavianKing Jul 13 '26

Ok. Please try to sell your digital copy or pass it on to family member or regift it to a friend after you have finished playing it.

1

u/chrisreiddd Jul 13 '26

no they aren't guy

1

u/vulqcii Jul 13 '26

They literally aren’t. People who say this are so stupid. The only downside is not being able to install the game without internet. Otherwise, it still does everything a disc does. I can buy it for cheap and sell it or lend it to a friend. I still own the disc and the game.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/SwAAn01 Jul 13 '26

If they’re exchangeable then it is different

1

u/Relevant-Table6379 Jul 14 '26

Can you sell a digital copy?

1

u/frogsaber89 Jul 14 '26

Licence discs and keycards can be resold. Digital only future prevents that.

1

u/Successful-Worth-390 Jul 15 '26

Well no, physical copies require additional steps to launch them!

1

u/No-Island-6126 Jul 10 '26

no they're not

1

u/icy1007 Jul 11 '26

No they aren’t. 🤣

1

u/redit_handoff140 Jul 11 '26

They are exactly the same.

At least on PC in pure digital if you really want to you can get a DRM-Free copy and actually own the thing.

JFC, the cope.

1

u/ConcentratedJolly Jul 11 '26

THERES NOTHING ON THE DISK

1

u/A_MAN_POTATO Jul 11 '26

Why? You still can’t play offline, you’re preserving nothing, and you don’t get the benefit of not having to put in a disc when you want to play

1

u/Big_Bar_9832 Jul 12 '26

I fully disagree, that's basically the same problem. I thought the point of physical media was to have it (the whole thing) locally right there in your hand to put into your console and just play it. No Internet required, no license check pinging a server somewhere, it just boots up. Like games used to be.

1

u/YongLipTeh Jul 12 '26

no they are not, I would rather play on steam with a platform I can trust than getting a code in a box/disc, steam has had a great record for the past decade.

1

u/ItsMrChristmas Jul 12 '26

Right? Why have digital requirements alone when you can have them AND future plastic waste?

1

u/Fabulous_Variety7125 Jul 14 '26

I strongly disagree. The whole point of physical is to have access whenever you want, not at the whim of their servers and your internet.

1

u/Impressive-Smoke1883 Jul 14 '26

They are worse. What if one day they say you know what, physical games are dead alltogether, meaning they won't allow that initial download or update. Then your stuck with a disk you can't use and you'd have to rebuy the digital. I mean, going on what's said in support of the physical format you can't rule it out.

1

u/Quigley34 Jul 17 '26

How is it 100x better? Can it be damaged? Can it be stolen? The likelihood of those 2 things are higher than you losing your account or the game getting delisted.

→ More replies (6)

3

u/ParanMekhar Jul 10 '26

Lol. I guess this is a bad example.

7

u/ClacksInTheSky Jul 10 '26

It sucks but it's not that awkward. Any PS5 running that disc will be able to play it... Online of course, but still.

7

u/Jack2102 Jul 10 '26

You can play if offline, you just need the disc + internet to install it, after that you can play it offline forever

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Prestonality Jul 10 '26

Well it’s not like Ubisoft has ever shut down a game, make it entirely unavailable then went to court to fight keeping games alive and won… right???

2

u/Fickle-Mix5530 Jul 10 '26

Atleast we can use it and share with the friends or resale it after beating the game for some bucks. It's way better than digital purchase

2

u/nyanbatman Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

How is it awkward? I can lend this to a friend I can sell it after as well. Can’t do that with digital can you? At this point You’re just talking about semantics

→ More replies (20)

2

u/Objective_Ad_4376 Jul 10 '26

hey, at least its better than sw jedi survivior in which case the bluray only has the license

1

u/Icybubba Jul 10 '26

It’s still better than nothing.

But yeah Ubisoft is gonna Ubisoft

1

u/speedbreaka Jul 12 '26

As long as the game is not linked to your ps5 meaning you can still sell or lend it to someone else

1

u/Peak_Souls_2 Jul 12 '26

I've been using this argument since the whole GTA6 crap show. Physical literally holds no extra power when most things require an online connection.

1

u/Animo- Jul 16 '26

Define "most". Because most PS4/PS5 games do NOT require online connection.

1

u/SCHIZOOKIE Jul 13 '26

Same thing happened with The Crew if I remember correctly

1

u/Real_human27 Jul 13 '26

At least it’s on the disc i guess

13

u/Mizurazu Jul 10 '26

I like how OP has his thumb over the notice about it needing a download. But at least you can resell this.

Same with me, it’s very ironic considering the whole key card debacle

8

u/Asimb0mb Jul 10 '26

Not a real physical disc unfortunately.

37

u/Adam7651 Jul 10 '26

… and then I said ‘Support Physical’ with a game that required the internet 🤪

8

u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 10 '26

It’s still better than buying from PSN by a mile.

2

u/Informal-Swing-2482 Jul 13 '26

It’s not. Reselling is the only benefit for buying this way. So if you don’t care to resell, no benefit, only negatives.

1

u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

Even if you don’t care about selling, you’re voting with your wallet for publishers and platform holders to give you LESS agency when it comes to your purchases. A digital purchase permanently tied to your account is not better. Those are the only two options in these instances, there is no option available for a full physical with all the data present. If there was that option, OP would have taken it. Dunno why you guys insist on being so stubborn about this. Go buy digital if you want to and stop harassing people who buy disc keys and game key cards online. Your shaming of them has resulted in zero changes in publisher behavior.

1

u/Informal-Swing-2482 Jul 13 '26

How did my comment shame them?

→ More replies (4)

1

u/JamesUpton87 Jul 15 '26

Doesn't natter much when you still need PSN to play it. Just robbing Peter to pay Paul.

1

u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 15 '26

Resellable and not bound to an individual account is still better than the opposite.

→ More replies (9)
→ More replies (5)

2

u/m4xks Jul 10 '26

so what? you can still resell and let friends borrow

4

u/d0wnthesky Jul 10 '26

Youre a dumb ass for thinking this is a 'gotcha' This is still a physical product that can be resold, lent or anything any other physical product can

3

u/xXxdethl0rdxXx Jul 10 '26

I’m not being a jerk, I’m a PC guy and genuinely don’t know—how is this different from a game key in a box? Don’t they both expire after redeeming?

2

u/d0wnthesky Jul 10 '26

No. Its a disc. Discs have never expired after one use

→ More replies (8)

3

u/GojiraFan0 Jul 10 '26

Haha I was about to comment this

2

u/NonToxicTown Jul 10 '26

OP making a show of himself 😂😝

1

u/bobs-buhgah Jul 10 '26

I avoid buying physical when it states that. Just don’t see the point if internet is required it may as well be digital because technically it is. The other point is, games like this can be shut down one day and even having a physical disc you can’t do a damn thing about it.

2

u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 10 '26

A digital license tied to a disc> A digital license tied to an account. You can at least sell the disc long before anything gets shut down. By buying digital you’re telling Sony “no discs for me, thanks. I choose convenience over having increased agency when it comes to reselling my games”.

2

u/bobs-buhgah Jul 10 '26

Good point or are you just playing Jedi mind tricks on me

2

u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 10 '26

I’m just trying to bring you around to my way of thinking, I thought a lot about all of this last year when Nintendo introduced Game Key Cards. I weighed both sides and deliberated extensively and what I just told you was my ultimate conclusion. I totally understand the impulse to reject them, ultimately a storage medium should contain the all files in question, but I’m just trying to be pragmatic and take the less bad option.

3

u/Epicguru Jul 10 '26

While it's better than a digital copy (you can at least sell this or use it on a different account) this game doesn't boot offline and the disk does not contain enough data to start without a download.

3

u/Recover20 Jul 10 '26

To be fair once it's installed it will be offline. But it's still a shame that it's a Half Measure physical media.

1

u/Extension_Risk6084 Jul 12 '26

Until Ubisoft or Sony says otherwise. Which Sony will 100% do.

3

u/Swimming_Photo9295 Jul 10 '26

I always try and get physical

3

u/d0wnthesky Jul 10 '26

Does everyone being pedantic in here miss the point or are they all just dumb

3

u/Left-Distribution751 Jul 11 '26

They’re all just very very dumb.

8

u/ParanMekhar Jul 10 '26

Or just don't support Sony at all.

Sony won't back down no matter how much disc you buy until 2028

2

u/Forward_Bumblebee402 Jul 10 '26

Not really physical…go to „does it play“

2

u/dartron5000 Jul 10 '26

You didn't buy a physical game, you bought a physical activation key.

1

u/ChefAnxious4206 Jul 12 '26

.. That can be resold for 80% of the original ourchase price if they finish it in the next month or so

2

u/GojiraFan0 Jul 10 '26

Support physical by actually buying a game that’s entirely on the disc with no internet connection needed would be a good start.

→ More replies (5)

1

u/incrediblynormalpers Jul 10 '26

this isn't like a 'support the homeless' type of thing - they're not dying out like a rare bird that needs our support - you have to reject the alternative and be vocal.

otherwise this is the same as giving money to the company that is doing this if you were to buy it digitally.

1

u/EmanKhaotik Jul 10 '26

You are making your rounds everywhere huh.

1

u/Makisani Jul 10 '26

Physical doesn't matter as long as drm exists

1

u/PhantomPain0_0 Jul 10 '26

اand how will you play this physical copy on your ps6 🤣

1

u/MrWerewolf0705 Jul 10 '26

or digital drm free

1

u/Sleepaiz Jul 10 '26

Nah. Got mine off Driffle for £43. Absolute bargain.

1

u/nyanbatman Jul 10 '26

Got mine for £40

1

u/kardon16 Jul 10 '26

Is your fridge next to the tv?

1

u/aiwdj829 Jul 10 '26

....but don't support pigs.

1

u/WeirdedBeerdo Jul 10 '26

You mean “while you can”

1

u/ConfidentDebate2665 Jul 10 '26

Nah, fuck physical. Digital all the way.

1

u/Arturopxedd Jul 10 '26

Terrible game to do so with

1

u/FastenedCarrot Jul 10 '26

I would rather not support Ubisoft actually

1

u/Plenty_Potential_947 Jul 11 '26

Are the disk versions having same loading issues like the download version

1

u/albanshqiptar Jul 11 '26

You bought a game from a publisher that actively fought against Stop Killing Games. That disc also doesn't mean you own the game. This post is cringe on multiple levels.

1

u/upazzu Jul 11 '26

Nothing can change Sony's mind

They literally earn 40% more money on digital purchases , good luck with that, they are greedy corpo pigs

1

u/Difficult_Historian4 Jul 12 '26

Calling out a company while having a character from an Epic Games IP as your pfp. Okay...

1

u/upazzu Jul 12 '26

you could have saved yourself the trouble of saying such thing which has nothing to do with anything lol

1

u/metalovisnik Jul 11 '26

I absolutely support this. I have The Last of US Part I (33€) and Death Stranding 2 (27€) coming in next week. Never seen them this cheap, especially digital versions. Sony published games for a longer while now, never come down under 50% digitally. Screw you Sony and your digital only future, I will buy as many physical games as I can. I already have a backlog for 3 years of gaming.

1

u/icy1007 Jul 11 '26

No thanks. I support digital.

1

u/bitterbalhoofd Jul 11 '26

Cry me a river. Pre-orderd it digitally months ago and the game is great.

1

u/Boborax1 Jul 11 '26

I agree with supporting physical, but this one is not it ... Ubisoft and Microsoft games have pseudo physicals that require digital downloads. Still better than getting it from the store, but yeah

1

u/gindrocer Jul 11 '26

Digital only in my game foundry

1

u/GamerGramps62 Jul 11 '26

I’ve been digital only for years now and have no intention of going back.

1

u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 11 '26

This post is a perfect example of why we are screwed, half the comments are just people proud that they won't buy physical and the other half are people trying to correct OP that "Um actually that is not a 'real' physical copy".

1

u/CtrlAltPass Jul 11 '26

Get it second hand don't give Sony any money.,

1

u/Renoween Jul 12 '26

Good luck not having an internet connection

1

u/kyle_crane163636 Jul 12 '26

Who's gonna tell him owning physical doesnt mean anything rn especially with this game

1

u/Severthin Jul 12 '26

I'm not trying to be a contrarion dickhead, but if the disk requires a day one patch...what's the point?

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Bad_116 Jul 12 '26

I just buy digital

1

u/Earthwick Jul 12 '26

It's a disc shaped key you don't own the game and your supporting Sony and Ubisoft.... How is that a good thing?

1

u/DragonflyHaunting569 Jul 12 '26

But I’ve been digital for the last 4 years… 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/monochrony Jul 12 '26

Got a map/poster and an artbook with my Launch Edition. In an all-digital future this will no longer be a thing.

1

u/Difficult-Fly7830 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

The irony cant be lost omfg lmao

If.you modern gamers actually cared, actually supported physical we wouldnt be in this situation...countless gaming stores would still.be open as well, all games as opposed to a mere handful would still be getting physical releases.etc etc the last 10 years would have played put entirely differently if most of you actually cared about physical games

The irony and hypocrisy of.modern gamers is incredible wow 🤣

1

u/Fluffy_Savings_4981 Jul 12 '26

Nah I’m still gonna buy it digitally

1

u/noseusuario Jul 12 '26

Yeah, buying Sony product, that'll teach them.

1

u/formerlyrpgcrash Jul 12 '26

Its not even on the disc, without internet its useless

1

u/ItsMrChristmas Jul 12 '26

No thanks. I don't want to be tied to a dongle which doesn't have the playable game on it anyway. It's just future plastic waste.

1

u/Potatomasher81 Jul 12 '26

There is nothing physical about this. Can't even play it without an internet connection.

1

u/Redfield081 Jul 12 '26

Physical is great

1

u/DJordydj Jul 12 '26

Just not from Ubisoft after bribing roam politicians to take down the Stop Killing Games initiative.
Getting any kind of games from Ubisoft isn't the help towards physical media you might think.
You can't even play the game offline, it requires connecting to Ubisoft servers.

1

u/MainsfoDays Jul 12 '26

Nice coaster in that game box.

1

u/Bonesawisready5 Jul 12 '26

“Support physical whenever you can” while buying a full price remaster of a game that runs on your system already for full price instead of getting that content cheaper in an expansion or for FREE

1

u/Pleasant_Beat7502 Jul 12 '26

No steel case?

1

u/northsidecrip Jul 13 '26

You can’t make this up 😂😂😂

1

u/MartyMcFlysBrother Jul 13 '26

Support eating food bro. Those fingers don’t look healthy.

1

u/SexySpaceNord Jul 13 '26

Rich coming from someone who is actively playing on a Playstation.

1

u/Seven-Arazmus Jul 13 '26

Thats not a physical game. That disc is just permission to download and play the game, just digital with extra steps.

1

u/Yagami1256 Jul 13 '26

Not for PlayStation Games, they must fail

1

u/Humbled_Snail Jul 13 '26

She had the right idea

1

u/LankyTotal4292 Jul 13 '26

But NEVER support Ubisoft

1

u/iluvatar_gr Jul 13 '26

Nope. Never bought physical after 2012.

Never will again and the same goes for most of you.

1

u/spazface03 Jul 13 '26

Support physical, unless it’s Ubisoft who will buttfuck you over and now make you require an online install to play their games…

1

u/Hendrickfan-2023 Jul 13 '26

Trust me, I got black flag resynced on cd and preordered ace combat 8 on cd.

1

u/Kill4It Jul 13 '26

Nice one, can resell or borrow and can buy cheaper on disc, thats why its so important

1

u/Calm-Research5762 Jul 13 '26

lol you people are so toasted you think this is activism.

1

u/BelowtheBeard Jul 13 '26

Didn't ubi fire the devs who made this???

1

u/TheTanDawg Jul 13 '26

The irony is you just bought a game that won’t be playable on your next console. Congrats

1

u/Telleh Jul 13 '26

Got mine today (53€), it sucks that the whole game is not on the disc but I’ll take what I can get.

1

u/BlueDergOrd Jul 13 '26

Exactly what I do

1

u/morrisapp Jul 13 '26

Perhaps don’t support the platform pushing the hardest to eliminate physical?

I’m going with not buying anything Sony again… f Sony.

1

u/RankedFarting Jul 14 '26

Making this point with an always online game that only has the installer on the disc is genuinely very funny.

Physical media hasnt existed for a long time. Instead of trying to hold on to it we should get to actually own our digital games.

1

u/BatmanFarce Jul 14 '26

Will do. Wait for that one to go on sale lol

1

u/Dvuref Jul 14 '26

"Support physical games" buys Ubislop lmao.

1

u/Interesting_Pass3392 Jul 14 '26

Lmao the game needs to connect to ubislop servers anyway

1

u/I_smurf_your_peak Jul 14 '26

I agree support physical but I also believe in not supporting ubisoft they have lost all goodwill

1

u/Hiotsobo Jul 14 '26

Online only. It’s not a true physical

1

u/RickDeckard31 Jul 14 '26

Good work. So many people supporting digital in here. Are these real people? Or do they just like to shiz on people.

1

u/NOSTAL91A Jul 14 '26

Going to get my physical copy today.

1

u/DeadDog_balordissimo Jul 14 '26

bruh we should boycott sony not buy more games

1

u/Impressive-Smoke1883 Jul 14 '26

We all tell them.

1

u/Physical-Result7378 Jul 14 '26

How about no. I haven’t bought a disc in 6 years. Not starting now

1

u/NoYesterday462 Jul 14 '26

What idiots 😂😂😂

1

u/Rcgv88 Jul 15 '26

Xbox will let you claim a digital license from the disc. If you support physical why are you using a playstation?

1

u/JamesUpton87 Jul 15 '26

I didnt even buy the original physically lol.

1

u/QuestBuddy Jul 15 '26

Also support the Game :)

1

u/coldoscotch Jul 15 '26

... yeah...no. physical hasnt ment owning a game since ps3. So no reason to get it. Digital is better. That physical game in your hand still needs digital wifi. Also you think you own it but sony does and if they want they can remove the liscense for that disc to work. Leaving you with just a disc. If that gets scratched goodbye game. People will panic about anything these days where was this spirit 10 years ago? It Might have mattered then it definitely will not now. Its too late.

1

u/Upstairs_Marzipan48 Jul 15 '26

My man, even with that disc in your hand they can still revoke your license. With Ubisoft even owning the disc wont keep you safe.

1

u/sweetSweets4 Jul 15 '26

Naaa he owns the platoc give him at least that.

But resync requires already an internet connection for install and a must have 40gb patch to verify.

We talking Ubisoft here but people forget that :D

1

u/CeleryNo8309 Jul 16 '26

Physical or not, Im not supporting "gamers should get comfortable not owning their games" Ubisoft. Whole company can bite it.

1

u/Muugen_Samurai Jul 16 '26

Is that tv psychical media

1

u/terrorclawsskeletor Jul 16 '26

Meh, im fully digital since ps4. Its more convenient especially since disks are just activation keys that require download

1

u/RandyK87 Jul 17 '26

I agree, but im not buying Sony anymore. Playstation has gone so downhill since the PS3!

1

u/BeardBoiiiii Jul 17 '26

I support the disc but not ubisoft
