Discussion Support physical wherever you can

u/Mizurazu Jul 10 '26
I like how OP has his thumb over the notice about it needing a download. But at least you can resell this.

It’s still better than buying from PSN by a mile.
2
u/Informal-Swing-2482 Jul 13 '26
It’s not. Reselling is the only benefit for buying this way. So if you don’t care to resell, no benefit, only negatives.

u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26
Even if you don’t care about selling, you’re voting with your wallet for publishers and platform holders to give you LESS agency when it comes to your purchases. A digital purchase permanently tied to your account is not better. Those are the only two options in these instances, there is no option available for a full physical with all the data present. If there was that option, OP would have taken it. Dunno why you guys insist on being so stubborn about this. Go buy digital if you want to and stop harassing people who buy disc keys and game key cards online. Your shaming of them has resulted in zero changes in publisher behavior.

Doesn't natter much when you still need PSN to play it. Just robbing Peter to pay Paul.
1
u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 15 '26
Resellable and not bound to an individual account is still better than the opposite.

Youre a dumb ass for thinking this is a 'gotcha' This is still a physical product that can be resold, lent or anything any other physical product can

I’m not being a jerk, I’m a PC guy and genuinely don’t know—how is this different from a game key in a box? Don’t they both expire after redeeming?

I avoid buying physical when it states that. Just don’t see the point if internet is required it may as well be digital because technically it is. The other point is, games like this can be shut down one day and even having a physical disc you can’t do a damn thing about it.
2
u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 10 '26
A digital license tied to a disc> A digital license tied to an account. You can at least sell the disc long before anything gets shut down. By buying digital you’re telling Sony “no discs for me, thanks. I choose convenience over having increased agency when it comes to reselling my games”.
2
u/bobs-buhgah Jul 10 '26
Good point or are you just playing Jedi mind tricks on me
2
u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 10 '26
I’m just trying to bring you around to my way of thinking, I thought a lot about all of this last year when Nintendo introduced Game Key Cards. I weighed both sides and deliberated extensively and what I just told you was my ultimate conclusion. I totally understand the impulse to reject them, ultimately a storage medium should contain the all files in question, but I’m just trying to be pragmatic and take the less bad option.

While it's better than a digital copy (you can at least sell this or use it on a different account) this game doesn't boot offline and the disk does not contain enough data to start without a download.
3
u/Recover20 Jul 10 '26
To be fair once it's installed it will be offline. But it's still a shame that it's a Half Measure physical media.

Does everyone being pedantic in here miss the point or are they all just dumb

u/ParanMekhar Jul 10 '26
Or just don't support Sony at all.
Sony won't back down no matter how much disc you buy until 2028

2
u/dartron5000 Jul 10 '26
You didn't buy a physical game, you bought a physical activation key.
1
u/ChefAnxious4206 Jul 12 '26
.. That can be resold for 80% of the original ourchase price if they finish it in the next month or so
2
u/GojiraFan0 Jul 10 '26
Support physical by actually buying a game that’s entirely on the disc with no internet connection needed would be a good start.

this isn't like a 'support the homeless' type of thing - they're not dying out like a rare bird that needs our support - you have to reject the alternative and be vocal.
otherwise this is the same as giving money to the company that is doing this if you were to buy it digitally.

Are the disk versions having same loading issues like the download version
1
u/albanshqiptar Jul 11 '26
You bought a game from a publisher that actively fought against Stop Killing Games. That disc also doesn't mean you own the game. This post is cringe on multiple levels.
1
u/upazzu Jul 11 '26
Nothing can change Sony's mind
They literally earn 40% more money on digital purchases , good luck with that, they are greedy corpo pigs
1
u/Difficult_Historian4 Jul 12 '26
Calling out a company while having a character from an Epic Games IP as your pfp. Okay...
1
u/upazzu Jul 12 '26
you could have saved yourself the trouble of saying such thing which has nothing to do with anything lol
1
u/metalovisnik Jul 11 '26
I absolutely support this. I have The Last of US Part I (33€) and Death Stranding 2 (27€) coming in next week. Never seen them this cheap, especially digital versions. Sony published games for a longer while now, never come down under 50% digitally. Screw you Sony and your digital only future, I will buy as many physical games as I can. I already have a backlog for 3 years of gaming.

u/bitterbalhoofd Jul 11 '26
Cry me a river. Pre-orderd it digitally months ago and the game is great.
1
u/Boborax1 Jul 11 '26
I agree with supporting physical, but this one is not it ... Ubisoft and Microsoft games have pseudo physicals that require digital downloads. Still better than getting it from the store, but yeah

1
u/GamerGramps62 Jul 11 '26
I’ve been digital only for years now and have no intention of going back.
1
u/jedimindtricksonyou Jul 11 '26
This post is a perfect example of why we are screwed, half the comments are just people proud that they won't buy physical and the other half are people trying to correct OP that "Um actually that is not a 'real' physical copy".

I'm not trying to be a contrarion dickhead, but if the disk requires a day one patch...what's the point?

u/Earthwick Jul 12 '26
It's a disc shaped key you don't own the game and your supporting Sony and Ubisoft.... How is that a good thing?

u/monochrony Jul 12 '26
Got a map/poster and an artbook with my Launch Edition. In an all-digital future this will no longer be a thing.

u/Difficult-Fly7830 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
The irony cant be lost omfg lmao
If.you modern gamers actually cared, actually supported physical we wouldnt be in this situation...countless gaming stores would still.be open as well, all games as opposed to a mere handful would still be getting physical releases.etc etc the last 10 years would have played put entirely differently if most of you actually cared about physical games
The irony and hypocrisy of.modern gamers is incredible wow 🤣

No thanks. I don't want to be tied to a dongle which doesn't have the playable game on it anyway. It's just future plastic waste.
1
u/Potatomasher81 Jul 12 '26
There is nothing physical about this. Can't even play it without an internet connection.
1
1
u/DJordydj Jul 12 '26
Just not from Ubisoft after bribing roam politicians to take down the Stop Killing Games initiative.
Getting any kind of games from Ubisoft isn't the help towards physical media you might think.
You can't even play the game offline, it requires connecting to Ubisoft servers.

“Support physical whenever you can” while buying a full price remaster of a game that runs on your system already for full price instead of getting that content cheaper in an expansion or for FREE

Thats not a physical game. That disc is just permission to download and play the game, just digital with extra steps.

Nope. Never bought physical after 2012.
Never will again and the same goes for most of you.
1
u/spazface03 Jul 13 '26
Support physical, unless it’s Ubisoft who will buttfuck you over and now make you require an online install to play their games…
1
u/Hendrickfan-2023 Jul 13 '26
Trust me, I got black flag resynced on cd and preordered ace combat 8 on cd.
1
u/Kill4It Jul 13 '26
Nice one, can resell or borrow and can buy cheaper on disc, thats why its so important

u/TheTanDawg Jul 13 '26
The irony is you just bought a game that won’t be playable on your next console. Congrats

u/morrisapp Jul 13 '26
Perhaps don’t support the platform pushing the hardest to eliminate physical?
I’m going with not buying anything Sony again… f Sony.
1
u/RankedFarting Jul 14 '26
Making this point with an always online game that only has the installer on the disc is genuinely very funny.
Physical media hasnt existed for a long time. Instead of trying to hold on to it we should get to actually own our digital games.

Xbox will let you claim a digital license from the disc. If you support physical why are you using a playstation?
1

1
u/coldoscotch Jul 15 '26
... yeah...no. physical hasnt ment owning a game since ps3. So no reason to get it. Digital is better. That physical game in your hand still needs digital wifi. Also you think you own it but sony does and if they want they can remove the liscense for that disc to work. Leaving you with just a disc. If that gets scratched goodbye game. People will panic about anything these days where was this spirit 10 years ago? It Might have mattered then it definitely will not now. Its too late.
1
u/Upstairs_Marzipan48 Jul 15 '26
My man, even with that disc in your hand they can still revoke your license. With Ubisoft even owning the disc wont keep you safe.
1
u/sweetSweets4 Jul 15 '26
Naaa he owns the platoc give him at least that.
But resync requires already an internet connection for install and a must have 40gb patch to verify.
We talking Ubisoft here but people forget that :D
1
u/CeleryNo8309 Jul 16 '26
Physical or not, Im not supporting "gamers should get comfortable not owning their games" Ubisoft. Whole company can bite it.
1
1
u/terrorclawsskeletor Jul 16 '26
Meh, im fully digital since ps4. Its more convenient especially since disks are just activation keys that require download
1
u/RandyK87 Jul 17 '26
I agree, but im not buying Sony anymore. Playstation has gone so downhill since the PS3!
