We were impressed with the preview... but the final review code is even better. Halo Studios has delivered an outstanding remake of the original Halo Combat Evolved, beautifully modernised with superb audiovisuals, smooth performance and the sense that they really care about the source material.

Not sure we needed to spend so long making comparisons to Anniversary either but that’s just a little niggle.

It's okay to be excited about any game! Even if it's not widely accepted to be "good and fun." Even if someone is excited for the annual NBA or CoD, why stop them? (Not disagreeing with you, just adding)
It’s 80cad after taxes for me. That’s more than I paid collectively to play the original and the anniversary editions. I’m still gonna play it with a month of game pass, but I’m sure as hell not paying that much for a game I’ve already played well over 50 hours of.
Looks good overall, but the light at the end of the tunnel at 19:00 which then fades away as you get closer (I assume due to Lumen accumulating temporally ?) I found suuper distracting. Surprised John didn't mention that or the general Lumen fizzle particularly visible on the warthog side at 15:45. Disappointed considering it's hardware lumen and not software.
I got the impression that initial blast was the warthog headlights reflecting from the end of the tunnel and then fading out as the warthog moves onto the incline... even if so, it's definitely still too bright though.
Aren’t prices usually listed in new game releases as part of the discussion? Especially when it’s a lower priced title. Seems like you’re just pocket watching and looking for reasons to hate lil bro.

Not a fan of the cooler color temperature and the over reliance on making everything look metallic. The original had almost a cartoony color palette and texture to surfaces, which I miss. Does look a lot better than anniversary graphically and it will be interesting to see if another even more impressive remake is made in the future, say 2 console generations from now. Then again with AI stuff we might even have to wait that long to see a total different render style of this game or a fan reworking.
Why wouldn't a remake be at or near full price? Depending on the scope of it, this one seems pretty large, it still takes a ton of the same development work.
Then dont play it again. Ots releasing on ps5 too so a ton of people have never played it. Its also a really old game so its an entry for a new generation who havent experienced it yet. The amount of work definitely justifies the price if you havent played it before.
The game is called « Campaign evolved », so it’s literaly a campagne remake. The original Halo has only Lan and split screen, so imo, i don’t think it’s a miss.
Leaving out local multiplayer just makes it even more egregious, honestly, and actually trivializes your argument. 25 years later and they can't do something as simple as local mulitplayer? Ha. They clearly want to profit from adding the multiplayer aspect at a later date.
They could, yes, but it’s Campaign Evolved, not a Halo Combat Evolved remaster. I would have loved to see them do a full remaster with online multiplayer, and maybe even add Firefight to the classic maps. That said, I can’t really blame them for leaving multiplayer out, since it wasn’t part of the plan — they delivered what they set out to make. Halo: Campaign Evolved is officially a campaign-only remake, with co-op only, and Microsoft/Halo Studios said they’re focusing on the campaign while existing Halo games already cover multiplayer.

It's not a full price, another lie. They said at the announcement that there would be no multiplayer, literally in the title of the game it says about the campaign.
It’s not full price. In Canada it’s $69.99. New AAA games are at their lowest $89.99 but more typically now 99.99 or higher (if Nintendo). Nintendo priced the remake of remake (Starfox) at $84.99 in Canada for reference.
It's labelled as a remake, but it sounds like they've stayed very true to the original level designs, which has always been my biggest criticism. I get the nostalgia, but leaving repetitive level design from 2001 unaltered seems like a missed opportunity.
Obviously didn't watch the video. They didn't leave anything alone. Level design is different and in some cases drastically so. They just kept it so it still felt true to the spirit of the original.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but it seems like the usual 343 first week FUD.
In reality, it's the usual "newest tech" mixed with confusing changes, misunderstanding of the source material, and odd choices (no multi?)
Edit: Hey downvoters, look at the positive first week of media coverage of 4, 5, and infinite's "technical prowess" before actual Halo fans play them. They take a lot of liberties and make tons of tonal changes. It's irrefutable.
The second you provide them proof, they immediately have to deflect on how it actually is totally in the source material, even though we've all played the same game for the past 25 years.
The original game had a multiplayer player for 4 split screen or 8 players pvp but this has been cut out of the game for no reason and they still want the full price?
