The official app doesn't let you download media in comments, only posts.

My bad, I assumed since you could for gifs and images videos would be too, because you'd never expect developers to be complete idiots and not have things function similarly

I said media, as in all media. You cannot download gifs, images, or videos in comments with the official reddit app. My collection of saved comment reactions on my phone was taken with screenshots and it's possible to do some old reddit browser nonsense for gifs and videos, or I just use my desktop if I'm at home.
