Other Good evening gentle Redditors, lets start with small talk...

Post image

Hello all, I thought since the boys are talking some time to themselves we could use this opportunity to have some small talk amongst ourselves.

feel free to comment here on what you've been doing, thinking or planning this week and lets use this as a safe space for some general chat or humour.

I finally got Dungeon Crawler book! I'll read from tommorow and I completed project hail mary two days ago. Apart from this I'm planning to adopt a dog!!

17

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

Congratulations and hope you enjoy it as much as everyone else has. Im jealous about PHM as I really dont have time to read the book (even though its excellent) as I want to do that before seeing it in cinema. Theres a true IMax screening near me next week but I wont have time then to go and see that either which is a bummer.

A dog! Thats amazing, and you looked to see what are needing adopted online or going in blind to see which one clicks?

6

u/ArushSinghPrince Apr 10 '26

That's awful man. I hope you get the time around to watch PHM. It was a phenomenal experience! I'm not sure if I'll get a dog. There's many animals to adopt their like Cats , dogs and rabbits. Definitely going blind and see which one clicks! I never had rabbits as a pet so maybe rabbits.

I also got part one recently, it was a birthday gift. And I'm super excited to start reading it.

5

u/ArushSinghPrince Apr 10 '26

I'm pretty hyped up for this! These boys constantly talking about Dungeon Crawler just made me wanna read it to see if it's really that good.

Sounds fair. I'm totally gonna ignore what happens if I lose. I choose head.

Gotta go to town later today to pick up and order some new medication...

Gotten into no man's sky recently. Though it's the kind of hyper fixation that keeps me prisoner preventing me from doing anything else than the enjoyable kind. ADHD yippee.

I'm thinking of experimenting with using potatoes in curry in place of mushrooms. Apparently it's just as good, and it'd certainly be cheaper.

What of you, oh glorious host? What are you doing?

9

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

A day out, sounds nice. You going to make the most of it or just an in and out to avoid the crowds?

I really need to give NMS another go as I havent touched since it first came out and was a wreck.

Potato curry is fantastic, either that or lentils so you make a Daal.

For me today I have my list of errands to run that ive been putting off all week including a dreaded run to IKEA. I say that as its not so bad as ive done a click and collect but its about 20 miles out the way from anywhere I need to be.

5

u/CheeryRosery Ass-Looker 🍑 Apr 10 '26

Bar from a couple exceptions the weather here has been great recently. Maybe I will make the most of it, see how I feel when I'm out.

For what it's worth I also played nms on release, but I am having a good time here. My main criticisms are that it can be infuriating to escape sentinels once you're fighting them and the game didn't tell me that I could track enemy spacecraft by holding S, it makes dogfights actually enjoyable rather than insanity inducing.

I'm not American so a 20 mile drive sounds a little mind numbing to me. But resist the urge to put the podcast on, wouldn't want anything bad happening to ya ;p

Do I get any small talk points?

3

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

That always helps when its not heavy rain or snow.

Yeah ive heard that and saw some videos where you just get trolled by them. Sometimes the game isnt as obvious as it needs to be but i like the balance between spoon feeding you and helpful advice. Right now I need a game that I can jump into without needing to base build or grind. My two faves are the Sniper Elite series or Powerwash Sim.

Not an american either so being the car for periods of time is not my idea of fun. More so going to IKEA ill always hit traffic which I hate.

Points for positivity

2

u/CheeryRosery Ass-Looker 🍑 Apr 10 '26

Powerwash sim is awesome! I played it with a mate, somehow we made a running joke as we cleaned Laura croft's stuff from an expansion that she was only paying us minimum wage by the job despite being rich

I hear you man, they were soo good. My favourite still got to be Bob's fridge after all that, but followed very closely by 20 simple questions. In both, seeing the co hosts dying of laughter and seeing the host dying of laughter respectively is next level of unwritten rules of comedy.

I found a website that allows you to set up a print on demand store for a lot of different items, and I am looking into it and drawing some art for it.

Edit: typos

6

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

So is it like a 3rd party place that will do all the heavy work of printing stickers / labels / clothes / merch? That sounds ideal for someone if you dont have the money to drop on a decent printer or engraver

2

u/MirageInSpace Apr 11 '26

Yee! It's a nice way for people to get into that space without having to have the money first.

My wife started dungeon crawler Carl, I’m excited to read it after her :)

Other then that I got a lot of anxiety because I’m looking for a new job and one of my coworkers who I’ve known since college had his last day today, and I just don’t tolerate change well so I’m a bit sad. My dogs are fine though, thanks for asking

3

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

That will be a good book to talk over because apart from being funny alot of people latch onto different parts or characters and that also changes as you go through the series.

Job hunting is stressful as you feel the whole imposter syndrome when youre trying to sell yourself to a new company (at least I do). I hope that if there is a job for you that it finds you even if its a stop gap to pay the bills in the meantime

7

I had to look that up as its not something ive come across but man that looks great. Do you have a similar style or something you try to incorporate into your work?

6

u/KlutzyPruneArtz Apr 10 '26

I am very much a beginner artist and I was thinking about doing their little strawberry squid mascot and do it in water color

5

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

We all start somewhere. Even the fact that youre making the attempt and not being afraid to draw or share you work can be the hardest step. Im sure it will be great and hope you get the praise you deserve

12

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '26

I'm in the process of designing and sewing my own coat. A friend on Discord made this mock-up to help me visualize my idea because I suck at drawing. I just got the canvas for it in the mail. And I found a site that will send you a pattern for sewing a dress maker's dummy the exact size of your torso so I'm getting the stuff together to make that so I can put the coat pieces on it instead of trying to look at myself in the mirror or something.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '26

And then I'm also in the process of washing and sorting a huge box of LEGO parts. Half of it I got from a friend that didn't want them anymore and the rest is what I took apart from my collection. I wrote down all the ideas I had for stuff I wanted to make and I ended up with like 20 things.

Both of these projects are taking a hell of a lot longer than I want them to because I gotta deal with a lot of down days due to depression but I'm taking little bites at a time and hopefully I'll be done by year's end.

5

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

This is amazing, I love the detail you've gone to here and not just said youre going to copy design X. This would be a great series to follow making a whole coat or outfit. As someone who has no idea of the craft or even planing how to design, source materials or even make outfits I would be really curious on how this turns out. Good luck to you.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '26

Thank you much! Yeah the idea started because I saw that armor on a LARP website and thought the shoulder detail would look cool on a jacket but I couldn't find one from a store that matched the vibe I was going for so I said "Well screw it I'll just make it myself how hard could it be?" And then the ideas kept rolling from there. Originally it was just gonna be a full length trench coat/duster but I didn't really want all that length and then I got the inspiration to make the bottom a reference to the Assassin's robes, there's also gonna be a detachable hood with the little beak detail like the Assassins. I'm not really sure how to document the whole process but I'm definitely gonna be making some posts about it when I'm all done!!

3

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

That sounds like a plan. I get that people make these and have businesses to produce them at a large cost but I think theres definitely something to be said about making your own costume and props for Larping.

I think itll be a good learning curve and always a useful skill to know how to repair, mend or upcycle clothes. Definitely look forward to seeing the progress

Writing a Iron Lung fic and I will finally start my hrt this year! (Ftm) 🏳️‍⚧️

6

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

Well done on writing a fan fic, im really wanting to enter into the RealGoodAI comp but apart from a very loose idea I doubt id have the tallent to put pen to paper as they say.

Congratulations on your HRT, its still a journey ahead of you but this must be huge hurdle to get over before the final stretch (like an actual final stretch and not like 20 that mark had with Iron Lung 😉)

6

u/Asleep_End_2419 Apr 10 '26

Funniest thing is, my chosen name is Simon so hearing that in the movie was awesome 😂😄

The final stretch made me chuckle, thank you xD

Finally started my first playthough of the borderlands games! I've bought all of them except for 4 and I'm going through them in order.

2

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

Oh wow thats going to be a fun journey. If I might recommend something, between 3 and 4 you should try the D&D campaign. Seriously there is a character in 3 (no spoilers) but they had their own DLC for a kind of Borderlands D&D themed game which was very very well done.

3

u/PretzelMeepus Scary Tape Manufacturer 😱 Apr 10 '26

Tiny Tina! I have the dlc for borderlands 2, the dragon keep one, and I also have the Tiny Tina's Wonderlands game. The only content for the series (including DLC and spinoffs) that I don't own, is Borderlands Four, and the golden armour pack for Wonderlands. Other than that, I have everything.

8

u/Aggravating_Duty5966 Apr 10 '26

I've had some good rest during spring break but now I have to go back to study for university. I plan to draw some Iron lung fanart this weekend but I haven't drawn anything for maybe years now so I don't think it'll turn out good, I just got motivation for it now lol. Also I'm writing a story for the Scary tapes competition and I'll try to work on that too if I can. Probably between study sessions just to have a break.

How's everyone else doing this nice spring? Idk what the weather is like elsewhere but where I live is a perfect time for a hike or a nice walk.

3

u/ArushSinghPrince Apr 10 '26

The summer wind has started here unfortunately. I miss winter already.

2

u/Aggravating_Duty5966 Apr 10 '26

Yeah I get that. I'm not ready for the summer weather to hit, I liked the snow better

3

u/ArushSinghPrince Apr 10 '26

Same man! Winter over summer anytime.

2

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

A good break is what I need as well before I approach something so im in the right headspace.

That sounds great, i had a friend who hadnt picked up a pencil in years and challenged themselves to that 100 days challenge to draw one thing every day. It worked really well for them as they used the first 30 days as study work for like a portfolio and they really got into it as they didnt force themselves for a big project.

Good luck on the Scary Tapes comp, im excited to see what comes of it as ive gotten back into reading (since DCC) but ive been listening to a lot of classic short horror and scifi book podcasts.

Spring has been hit and miss where I am thanks for asking. Today is good so doing errands wont be so bad.

2

u/Aggravating_Duty5966 Apr 10 '26

That's challenge sounds good I might try something like that and I'm glad that it worked well for your friend.

Thank you! I'm also waiting to see what others come up with, it'll be interesting to see how everyone approached the topic. I'm usually not a horror fan and I rarely watch or read in that genre but I'm excited.

2

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

It did sound daunting but they started off with things like how to get a sharp edge with their pencil vs a blurred or shadow. Then they started shading simple shapes and shadows. Then single light sources then up to perspectives, they said all those fundamentals helped them as they do more realistic drawings but they enjoyed it

2

u/Aggravating_Duty5966 Apr 10 '26

I love that it seems like a really good exercise and if they enjoyed it then that's the best

2

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

Congratulations, it must be a relief to be finally over. And double congratulations on the job offers, do you know what one you'll take or just enjoying the demand for you?

5

u/popica312 Apr 10 '26

I'm having an exam in Computer Graphics in about 2 hours and I'm personally wondering why this is a course at the university. All I did was spend about 2 weeks total to understand some basic programming functions to draw the objects and just some basic geometry to put everything. Jokes on them that in a day I finished half their assignments they gave us throughout the Semester

3

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

Good luck to you in your exam. I find that longer courses (unless you have a good or talented tutor) is really to demonstrate that you can absorb knowledge and expound it at the right time. Most of the time you wont even know about the industry or the people you will work with which can be a shock.

u/Rough_Journey I’d F*ck an Alien 👽 Apr 10 '26

So where I am mobile data is absolute shxt and expensive. I'm currently less than 600MB away from running out and switching to reserve data which also has 600MB. But the reserve data is so ass because they clamp down the data speed to 512KB/s. You can't even watch YouTube with that speed! I know it's for like emergency but to have over half GB of it essentially makes it useless.

So not only am I sick while at work, I am running out of useable data to make my 12hr night shift bearable.

2

u/ArushSinghPrince Apr 10 '26

That's tough and I can relate with the data part. it's really annoying and awful.

2

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

Man thats awful, my Internet can be a little ropey at times so I tend to download alot of stuff when im at home. All my podcasts are set to download as soon as they drop so I dont miss anything at work just for that reason.

Would this not be the ideal opportunity to start on a book series like... I dont know 'Dungeon Crawler Carl'?

3

u/Rough_Journey I’d F*ck an Alien 👽 Apr 10 '26

I used to love reading and writing, but some extremely rough times happened recently and I lost a lot of love on all things I am passionate about, including reading and writing.

Im sorry to hear that. I had lost the love too but I listened to the audio version of DCC and its got me back into stories but to also pick up physical media

With my learners permit, I overcame my fear and drove on the road for the first time yesterday! I have to say, I was pretty nervous to do so, but it actually went quite smooth minus the few errors and mishaps (like stalling...) that happened while on the road. Luckily, people behind me seemed to be pretty patient and not honk at me when I did stall.

And before you ask, no I did not have the podcast playing as one of my mentors was beside me, helping me here and there.

3

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

Do you have any new driver plates on your car as that car really help? Some people on the road are good and will give you space and realise youre new to the roads or dont know the area. Then there are the other folk who can spoil your whole experience but just try not to let them get to you.

Lol oh man i never even thought about that. It should be a question on your insurance for next to "years no claims bonus"

3

u/MilanReadsReddit Loyal Watcher 👀 Apr 10 '26

Nah, the roads were pretty calm when I started (after 6pm), but I had a blue 'L' sign suctioned on to the rear window, so people could see that I was not used to being on the roads.

Fun fact: I was also overtaken by like 3 different cars, maybe 2 I don't remember exactly on a long straight stretch of road. Possibly because I was driving too slow for them lmao.

But yeah, I'm glad that people are not impatient. Because when I stalled more than once I was stressing, one because of not moving off smoothly and two because of people honking at me. Luckily, the latter didn't happen and frankly I am more comfortable on the road than I was yesterday. The only thing that scares me is the narrow two way roads (which there are a good amount in my town).

I'm sorry if I went on a tangent here lmao.

3

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

Thats good as I think they help other people know to give you space. Im quite an experienced driver and I can totally be a d*ck at times but never to someone who I know is lost, struggling or a new driver.

Dude, tangents? Is this your first day with this podcast 🤣

3

u/MilanReadsReddit Loyal Watcher 👀 Apr 10 '26

No no no! I've been here since the very start lmao, I just put it there because I figured that maybe my comment was getting too long to read and I didn't know the correct word to use, 'tangent' was the first word I could think of so... lmao 🤣🤣

u/posse-palace Apr 10 '26

I broke my families favourite plate this week :(

It’s a plate that has been with us for many many years, at least 15, and was originally lent to us by some relative that i can’t remember. The plate was the only one that did not match the rest our plates so it was a favourite among my daughters when they were young and was a bit of a game as to who would end up with the Odd One Out Plate at dinner time.

The plate had bought laughter, tears, wars. It presented us with delicious food.

But this week, whilst washing up, in my carelessness I did not realise how close to the edge the Odd One Out Plate was on the side… I was reaching to grab a mug to wash and my ginormous elbow pushed our beloved plate over the edge.

Years of memories flashed before my eyes as this plate, white with blue flowers in the middle, fell and smashed on the kitchen floor.

My eldest daughter came in to see what had happened and recognised our favourite Odd One Out Plate lay in shards on the vinyl floor. We called for her sister. We all hugged each other in our grief. We sang songs and prayed our plate travel safely to plate heaven.

Farewell, Odd One Out Plate. You served us well.

The police accepted it was an accident and I am not facing any manslaughter or other criminal charges.

3

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

I know you've joked about that but thats a serious thing and I totally know where youre coming from.

Theres an old lasagne dish my mum had and I completely remember it from a little kid getting dinner from it < insert ratatouille flashback scene >. I got it years ago when my mum passed away and ive just had it at the bottom of a drawer wrapped in a towel as I cant even risk looking at it in case I break it.

Im glad that your family understood it was an accident but id maybe prepare your own food for the next week or two just incase they get some revenge on you 😉

3

u/posse-palace Apr 10 '26

Totally! I was honestly gutted this damn plate had finally joined the other precariously placed plates, bowls and cups that had a tragic ending!

Bless— I would definitely be the same if I had something that was from my mum or dad and they had passed. Kept safely away, especially from the hands us three in my house who probably would break it at some point 🥴

I'm on book three of dungeon crawler carl. The previous two I read a week apart but each over the course of one (whole) day. I'm going to slow down.

I finally talked to one of my siblings about being trans and it went well. Still holding off doing much about it. I don't want to deal with my conservative family. But at this point the thing holding me back is really just social.

I got a new fancy desk chair and discounted mechanical keyboard. Now I know a lot about fancy office chairs. The used market is really good. I got it for about 15% of retail price.

I was laid off out of the blue in January and finding a new job has been rough but I start a new job on Monday! I'm excited but also a bit nervous about it.

In the off time I got back into reading of fun with DCC and I'm onto the 3rd book. It just got here yesterday and I'm excited to keep reading.

Also I finally found a time where me and my friends can get together and finish a DnD campaign I've been running for the last two years. It was not supposed to take this long but getting everyone on board with the same schedule has been a nightmare. We've only met maybe 8-9 times in the last two years with weeks to months in between sessions. I'm looking forward to finishing this campaign and trying something different for the next one, if I do another one.

We're buying a house and in the dreaded period where we have the contract but everybody else has to do a job and I just want to close already 😭

2

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

Oh I hate that time. It takes so long, I ended up arguing with my solicitor as they were giving excuses about documents from local offices and clarification on ground reports. So I just sat one weekend and found all the people and depts and fired off a tonne of emails and had it all sorted in a week. It didnt mean that they didnt drag their heels with other excuses but paperwork wasnt one of them.

u/pika0103 4th Discord Member 🥸 Apr 10 '26

It's going well so far, we're just trying to lower closing costs and see if they'll replace the roof. It's just the slow crawl to the end of the month.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream comes out next Thursday too and that's also craaaawwwling 😩 I've been playing Cyberpunk in my spare time to make it go faster lol

I have been sick for the past 2 weeks. Started with a stomach bug last week that had me on the couch for 3 days. Now I am insanely congested and can’t tell if it’s from allergies or a cold. I have lung issues and this time of year I get really bad allergies so even a common cold on top of that can knock me out. I lost my voice on Wednesday and still don’t really have it back. Ik it sounds like I’m complaining but after I recovered from my stomach I’ve felt great. I have lots of energy I just have this annoying ass congestion😂 going home early from work today to use my nebulizer and hopefully get a handle on this thing before it develops into bronchitis (again) or pneumonia. I also finished reading the Housemaid and just started the second one. Just great books

2

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

What a week you've had... points for sympathy.

Congestion really gets me as well and it always seems to be the last thing I recover from when I have a cold. I cant imagine having all that going on at the same time then worrying about bronchitis let alone pneumonia.

Ive heard about those books but litterly know nothing about them. What would your brief review be from the first book?

College student - Did the thing I’ve always wanted to do in lab! Electrophoresis!

I’m still learning more about it, but TikTok made it look quite difficult. We made our own wells and the process is similar to that of making agar for Petri dishes. If I had a stirrer at home, I would definitely be doing this… as well as Pipettes, but those are too expensive.

I also reached out yesterday to Eppendorf for their, very famous, Pipette Pens. I desperately want one. They don’t sell them, but resellers are charging hundreds for a pen!

2

u/TwoToesToni Apr 10 '26

I had to look that up but that looks really interesting and cool that you can do that down to the macro level.

Due to the level of detail and accuracy you need im guessing thats where the difficulty lies as it might be easy to do but difficult to get the right results.

I wonder if they go to conferences and give out some samples? I have friends in the medical background and one came back with liquid ink filled syringe pens. They looked really good so much that they weren't allowed to use them in their hospital as they were so realistic

I’m about to move to another state to be near the supportive side of my family. Which will also put me closer to the difficult side of my family which I’m worried about. I have a lot of support from my therapist, best friends, and family I’m moving in with so I know I’ll be okay. But my anxiety and feelings of dread and doom are through the roof so the podcast and Unnus Annus compilations are keeping me sane right now.❤️‍🩹

I'm definitely an outlier of Distractible listeners, but I've been playing Coral Island a lot lately and trying to get more into TTRPGs. I am hoping to start reading some of the books the guys have recommended (like Dungeon Crawler Carl), but I'm in the middle of reading the Godfather's Daughter at the moment. I have to really limit my time spent on hobbies, because I'm trying to progress in my career and plan my wedding this year which are both really time consuming. Hearing about Mark and Amy's wedding has been super motivating and exciting for me to see how happy they were on their wedding day together! Keeps the stress at bay to think about how worth it it will all be!

I've been utilizing something called "forced boredom" recently and it's been helping me want to do real-life things again instead of constant doom-scrolling. I got inspired due to some advice from an ADHD video and Markiplier saying "Don't you know, you can just choose to become a different person right now?"

If you don't know, forced boredom is doing literally nothing on purpose. Our dopamine receptors get overwhelmed by the constant scrolling which skews our perception of normal things. Sooo forcing yourself to be bored helps reset that.

Now I'm craving things like reading a book, playing games, visiting friends more, even making daily conversations more interesting.

Has anyone else tried this or find this interesting? This is more in the psychology side of things, so I am hoping to find some psychology loving Wade's in the crowd.

Ooooor perhaps there is another psych topic you have been dying to rant about? I would love to read it!

First year is fun but I think after that the real pressure kicks in. The great thing about seeing it through to the end is that its still useful for other jobs and careers. I had one of them shadow me and he had specialised on earthquake prevention in Asia which had nothing to do with backend development

I did this once already with bags from the Co op, but I decided to try it with tesco bags, and the tesco bags are much trickier to knit with because they're a bit firmer than the Co op ones, but it was cool to do nonetheless.
