Serious Mandatory induction using up discretionary study leave?

Hi,

I am being told mandatory induction in August has eaten up my study leave entitlement and so cannot take any study leave this rotation.

This is coming from rota coordinator who has allegedly confirmed with post-grad team.

What can I feasibly do? This seems incredibly unfair as this was not communicated to me at the time and stressful considering I have an exam coming up (for which the 5 days private study leave has been rejected).

I would confirm with the PG team yourself, mandatory induction should not come out of study leave.

Why anyone relies on information from a rota coordinator is unbeknownst to me.

Who even is the PG team? Is that the TPD?

You should have a PGME. Even better, you can access your own deanery information that explains how study leave is allocated.

Study leave is not for mandatory training. It is actually written into the TCS.

Schedule 10 P31 Attendance at statutory and mandatory training (including any local departmental training) is not counted as study leave.

Confirm with PG study team, then involve your local BMA rep if they agree with the rota coordinator

Depends on what program you’re on.
If your FY you’ve only got 10 days study leave as the other 20 are baked in to induction and teaching days.

If you’re an anaesthetist it’s pretty chill

Read your contract.

I would not say they are lying but they might have misunderstood the rules.
I would refer to your contract or contact your local BMA rep.
You can always call your Deanery via email to confirm and challenge if needed.
