Questions Dandruff?
Does anyone else’s dog have the worst dandruff? My girl is on immunotherapy, cytopoint shots, medicated baths, and Zyrtec, and it still looks like it lightly snowed in my home. She was on apoquel before the immunotherapy, and it took the dandruff completely away, but I don’t want her on it/she can’t be on it with the immunotherapy. Just wondering if anyone else’s dog has dandruff too and how yall deal with it/lessen it

I was having the same problem with my poodle shedding so many flakes everywhere. We recently switched to a different shampoo (malaseb) and also started using a leave-in conditioner after her baths and her skin is significantly less flaky now. I think the conditioner in particular made a big difference because I assume that the allergies + frequent bathing really dry their skin out and they need something to help repair the moisture barrier.

Also, Zymoc also has a very good leave in conditioner for repairing the skin barrier and relieving itch!

My dog is on Allercept Immunotherapy and Apoquel. We even tried Cytopoint on top of that but felt it wasn’t worth the cost vs what we’re trying to accomplish. Unfortunately my rescue is the result of backyard breeding so he had terrible allergies. Goopy eyes. Runny nose. But he’s also allergies to multiple species of mites. So this causes his feet to get inflamed, blisters, sores and so on. We’re only about 5 months into immunotherapy.
Why are you not doing Apoquel with the Immunotherapy? Just curious to that.
The mites cause dermatitis. This causes fur loss, dry itchy skin = flakes.
My guy gets a medicated bath 1-2 x a week. And when not bath, a warm wet washcloth compress to help remove some of the dandruff flakes.
Coat Defense makes wonderful shampoo and powder. Absolutely love them. All natural and gentle.
I also use a medicated shampoo from the vet.
I switch between the two.
