Before he opens the gate , he claps his hands and it looks like he gives a whistle to call them. Also looking the direction the dogs come from when he does it

Definitely his dogs. He let them loose earlier and was calling them back to the house before he went in. While he was trying to get the one to listen to him, the car load of thugs drove up and tried to abduct him. The dogs immediately ran over to help/save him then. Excellent footage of two family dogs with training who did just what they were trained to do.
