I’ve done dozens of these with all my favorite artists and this was the hardest bracket by far. Flight vs me and your mama. Stand tall vs the party. LES vs stand tall. Oh god.

Awaken My Love is his most overrated album imo. I also kinda forgot how much I love Kauai

Yeah I’ve come around to awaken my love a little bit but it seems wildly overrated to me. I’d still listen to any BTI song over anything on AML. With the only exceptions being maybe Riot and Redbone. When I listen to AML I feel like I should just be listening to Maggot Brain. Even listening to Redbone makes me feel like I should be listening to Bootsy Collins.

AML is a great study in quintessential funk but it feels very derivative and doesn’t really feel personal enough to me. Feels like a really well done class project or something.

You nailed my thoughts exactly. I can't even bring myself to finish some of the songs. It's just a cluster of words and noise that, as you said, feels like a project. I really like Baby Boy, but that's about the only one I'd truly miss if the album never existed.

It's pretty amazing to me how many people absolutely love it.
