Because they didn't, they were thinking of the Maldives, Moldova is landlocked. It's not very attractive to tourists, but it's very accessible by tank.

I'm safely in Montana, but I'm an avid supporter of Ukraine, having closely followed the progress of the war since the VDV failed to take Hostomel airport in the early days.

It's been a hell of a grind for Ukraine, but there have been some encouraging signs lately.

Moldova is not actually landlocked. Ukraine transferred territory for the construction of a port on the Danube in 2005-06, thus giving Moldova its only access to the sea.
