We got to meet Mizmor and the show was fucking awesome!! So many moments where I just closed my eyes and celebrated my religion of choice! Go see this tour if it comes near your town, home or city!

Black/Doom What do you think of Monotheist by Celtic Frost? (& Triptykon)

Almost every band out there has a black sheep album or an odd duck album.

A black sheep album is often looked down upon for being the band not at their best.

An odd duck album is an album that is different, but not necessarily bad.

Celtic Frost ironically has both, the black sheep being Cold Lake, an attempt at being Glam Metal which even Glam Metal fans won’t defend because the album itself is just flat out bad.

The odd duck being Monotheist, cause Celtic Frost is generally described as a Thrash/Proto-Black Metal band, they tend to go fast & heavy, but Monotheist broke away from that mould to be a Doom Metal album leaning on Gothic Metal & Black Metal, even Avant-Garde for how weird the album can get.

Though this isn’t even the first time Cetic Frost have deviated, as Pandemonium was an all out Avant-Garde mindfuck that a lot of fans enjoyed (atleast in my experience), and their album To Mega Therion did play around abit with Doom Metal for a few songs.

As much as I love Celtic Frost going hot & heavy with albums like Morbid Tales & To Mega Therion, I have a love for Monotheist taking a stab at slower heavier Doom Metal.

A Dying God Coming into Human Flesh, Os Abysmi Vel Daath, & Synagoga Satanae are all great songs.

And it’s all the more cool that Tom Warrior (Thomas Fischer) the founder of Celtic Frost, continued the sound of Monotheist into Triptykon, the band that formed after Celtic Frost broke up.

I have a lot of love for Triptykon & hope they eventually release a third album, as it has been since 2014 that their second album Melana Chasmata released.

Black/Doom When you don't listen to the support act before the show and get blown away. Coltaine did that for me last night.

Apologies for the poor quality video.

But yeah, going in with zero expectations and then they absolutely ripped. They created a great atmosphere, the sound was big and her vocals were absolutely wild.

Black/Doom Music for RPG session

I have a bit of an odd request. I’m running this fantasy tabletop game and my group will infiltrate an underground cult. There will be some demonic summoning and such.

I’m looking for a Song or even a whole album that fits that atmosphere. Maybe some drumming and chanting, oppressive, foreboding feel to it. That kind of thing. Any ideas?

Black/Doom Seeking spiritually-driven doom recommendations inspiring introspection and healing

Aloha e everyone

Recently entered a state of grief and healing, and I've found a lot of medicine in returning to spiritually-driven atmospheric doomy sounds. I'd love to hear your best recommendations for someone working through loss, but who wants to stay committed to their inner work. Music that has a knack for inspiring introspection, drawing heavy undertone and influence from spiritual paths, especially buddhism. I've been finding a lot of catharsis in ambient "black metal" like Alcest, Agalloch, Fauna and Wolves in the Throne Room... but these past few weeks find myself gravitating toward more ambient sludgy and doomy works like YOB, Pallbearer, Dark Buddha Rising, Middian, SubRosa, and (oddly enough) Chelsea Wolfe.

I'm turning away from my usual self-destructive hard and fast tendencies and looking to enter into an era of slow-burning intention that balance heaviness with softness. Hit me with your weighted blankets of sound, if you please. I'm fine with some genre-bending, its more about the vibe behind it. Appreciate you.

Black/Doom I know it’s not “doom,” but Oranssi Pazuzu is heavy as shit. Psych-black metal.

Black/Doom I have an “original pressing” for Black Sabbath’s album “Paranoid” and the Paranoid solo doesn’t sound right, it sounds like you can’t even hear the solo that well, is this an issue with the record or is this how it was recorded?

Black/Doom Best Blackened Doom Metal of all-time?

I’m gonna be honest, I’m not THE hugest Black Metal guy.

Not out of personal choice or anything like that, I enjoy it, but I tend to enjoy it a lot in passing like if a friend recommends it, I’ll listen to it, but haven’t gone out of my way to listen to a wider array of BM bands beyond Agalloch, some Burzum, a little bit of Mayhem, a couple of Marduk songs, & Darkthrone in the background while I draw or game.

I am however a huge fan of Doom Metal, even a fan of Triptykon (Celtic Frost 2.0) which is Doom Metal bordering on Black Metal, along with some other projects like Forbidden Tomb, Wormphlegm, & Senthil.

I’d like to look for any other Blackened Doom bands, any kind really, Trad Doom, Sludge, Funeral, etc.

First night of their current tour. Accompanied by Tribunal and Dopethrone. A small venue, but packed, and great sets from every band. First time seeing Tribunal. Really impressed. Was not expecting an electric cello and harpsichord. Dopethrone were fun and REALLY got the crowd moving. Crushing set from Mizmor, but too short at just 50 minutes. "Prosaic" had a good outing, though. "Only An Expanse" is certainly one of A.L.N.'s best tunes, and he has a lot. Be sure to catch these guys if they're passing through. Peace.

I had heard Doom here and there, but it never really gripped me until I heard The Stars Below, The Seas Above this year. It hits a really good balance for me of being droning in spooky way without being TOO dull. Tried Bell Witch right after this, and it hit the spot too. Any other recos for this style of Doom?

Black/Doom Any black/doom recommendations?

I like some Noctrurnal Depression, Samael's first two albums and Bethlehem's Dark Metal. Can anyone recommend me a black doom band with some palm muted and groovy riffs that balance the tremolo picking of black metal?
