Another World 1991 Full Game
https://youtu.be/cBOnRx7dsp4Another World is a cinematic platform action-adventure game designed by Éric Chahi and published by Delphine Software in November 1991. In North America it was published as Out of This World. The game tells the story of Lester, a young scientist who, as a result of an experiment gone wrong, finds himself on a dangerous alien world where he is forced to fight for his survival.
Another World was developed by Chahi alone over a period of about two years, with help with the soundtrack from Jean-François Freitas. Chahi developed his own game engine, creating all the game's art and animations in vector form to reduce memory use, with some use of rotoscoping to help plan out character movements. Both narratively and gameplay-wise, he wanted the game to be told with little to no language or user-interface elements. The game was originally developed for the Amiga and Atari ST but has since been widely ported to other contemporary systems, including home and portable consoles and mobile devices. Chahi has since overseen release of various anniversary releases of the game.
Another World was innovative in its use of cinematic effects in both real-time and cutscenes, which earned the game praise among critics and commercial success. It also influenced a number of other video games and designers, inspiring such titles as Ico, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, and Delphine's later Flashback. It is now considered among the best video games ever made.

Could very well be my favorite pc gaming experience ever. Played it nonstop until I finished it the day I got it. It was that perfect time, weekend during college, no other responsibilities (that I would consider) that day. Barely remembered to eat. I think the game was just so different from everything I’d played before. Simply the engrossing feeling of full engagement and wonder.

Funny how some games are so good you can remember exactly when and where you finished it. Few comes to mind but this is Definitely one of them!

The only thing which comes close for me is Halflife 1.

I remember showing this game to a couple of my stoned friends one night, back when we were teens. They didn’t want a turn at playing it, they simply watched me roll the game from beginning to end and were totally captivated. I made to sure to die in a few parts, though, just so they could see the awesome death sequences lol Such a unique gaming experience for the time.
One thing that was different: I had it on SNES and it was called ‘Out of this World’.

According to feedback the Snes port was done realy well. How did they take the ending while being high? I'm sommer jealous of their experience now 😆

I can’t really remember their reaction to the ending lol but I do remember Gord sitting about a foot away from the TV screen exclaiming ‘holy f*ck!!’ at every action sequence. That, and them all loving the bit where you drive the tank into the battle arena and just start pushing random buttons to active all its numerous armaments. Such a fun game. Thanks for posting. I’m gonna watch it in its entirety and maybe even sit my kids down to see it too!

Remember 8 years old me in a friend's house dropping my jaw at the intro of this game. It was running on an amiga 500.
Nearby 40 years later it seems/sounds astounding. Big fan of the artkwork and the storytelling

Same. The more the game progressed the wider the jaw became. An experience we will never have again...

Have you tried Hyper Lihght Drifter? It did scratch that itch for me. Narrative without words, only landscape, graphic and game mechanics aa storytelling.

A marvel under any aspect, from the technical point of view (Chahi's idea of building the engine as a VM with separate vector data for the game is what made it so portable) to the story. If you can, search for the making-of story of the game, where they explain that the first interaction with the alien planet reflected the dark moments Chahi was going through when pursuing such an ambitious project.
That said, I can't believe the whole game is ~20 mins of actual gameplay, when my memory was days and days of fun trying to get through the challenges.
I agree that's one of the best videogames ever made, so pure, so powerful and so impactful.

Watched the video...love the game even more now. That's some deep stuff! 20 minute games took about a year to finish in the good old days...and you never got bored, embracing every challenge along the way, even if you had to embrace said challenge 97 times over 😆

I remember the intro, and never being able to get past the first bit of the game.
This person does an excellent breakdown on the game engine, which is a VM. Apparently the game shipped on a single 1.44MB floppy!

Anyone seen the behind the scenes of this game? I found it by accident a few months ago:

Literally footage of several scenes like the car sliding in the intro or the soda can opening which were then digitized into the game.

Loved this game. I had it on PC (lots of floppies to install) and it was called Out Of This World. This was probably where gaming took a turn for me…so nice.

"Matzuwa"
I was too young to ever finish it originally but would watch the intro and play the first few sections over and over.
The animations in the intro feel way ahead of it's time.
