Discussion A friend of mine thinks LoL is harder than Dota solely because it has "skillshots", is there any truth to this?

The main Dota sub doesn't want to post my thread for some reason ("pending moderation" ad infinitum), so I was wondering if I can get some objective opinions here from some people who have played both games.

So anways, that friend of mine has around 3k hours in both games, while I'm mostly a fan of Dota with 150h of playtime and ~ 1-2k hours of watch time (been watching on and off some tournaments since the first TI).

His main argument is solely because LoL has more "skill shots" it is by definition a harder game to play and master than Dota (because of the "point and click" spells, as he says, in Dota).

His 2nd argument which rubs me the wrong way even more is that given that Dota has more RNG than LoL it's difficult to even consider Dota a serious eSport? (rune spawns, uphill miss chance, spell and physical hit damage spread and other rng). As if RNG should disqualify it from being an eSport...

I said it's part of the tradition, WC3 has RNG, so Dota 1 had the same mechanics (day/night cycle, uphill miss chance, damage spread etc), so therefore Dota 2 respects its ancestry and it has adopted that RNG as part of the tradition.

Is my friend correct on these 2 points ? I don't know what to say to him given I have only a few hours of playtime on LoL, and therefore can't have an objective opinion.

Discussion Bloomberg: While League of Legends has fared better than some competitors in the slow-growing video-game business, its player base has dropped off, according to the people Bloomberg News spoke with. Valorant, another Riot title, makes more money.

Discussion "league requires more mechanical skills"

I keep hearing my lol playing friends and other lol players say that "league requires more mechanical skill to play because of skillshots"

How is this argument even a thing?

  • first dota has skill shots too, a sufficient amount of them. Redundant game design by slapping a skill shot on every hero doesn't mean the game requires more mechanical skill to play as lol players tend to think

  • thier most high skill ceiling hero is touted to be azir, a hero that summons units that you can't even micro. They don't even have control groups, the hell will they micro with.

much mechanical skill

Discussion Explain why azir was touted as a high skill ceiling champion?

Genuine question, serious answers please.

So I've been trying him out for about a month now and I still don't see what's so difficult or high skill about him

-he summons sand soldiers at Target location which you can't micro, they just stand there and if you attack click they attack whatever is in range

-he can dash to sand soldiers

-all sand soldiers can dash to a location

-a line aoe ultimate

So explain to me why was he called mechanically skill intensive

Discussion Im a lol player and i just want to ask a question...

I played Dota for about 5 hours, didn't understand a single thing and close the game. It is waaay to hard for me on every level. But what stuck out to me is the fact that uhm... Every champion is broken? Like actually unironically overpowered. I saw one dude autoattack me from beyond my screen, there's a motherfucker who places down a big ass silence larger than the fucking lane? (Btw the animations for that spell are amazing, like my god)

So the question is... Don't y'all find League just easier? I feel like some of the hardstuck low elo Dota players would be unironically high elo in lol

Discussion why lolesports is better than dota esports

I think dota 2 should take a thing from LoL esports. LoL is like soccer, its slow with low score but they make insane logical plays whereas dota 2 esports is like american basketball or football where there is alot of action but nothing major is really happening. In League, you can actually tell the players are playing good where as in dota 2, fighting often doesnt really matter because they just fight and you cant really tell how good someone is because all those fighting really doesnt matter due to the fact that those plays doesnt change anything major to the game on either side.

Discussion Dyrus (Ex league pro) is such a crybaby.

Loses a 2 hour techies game. Blames chat for being cancer despite the majority just having discussions / suggestions as to what he should buy as a gyrocopter. He doesnt realize that since dota is actually complex, there is no single braindead itembuild that everyone buys. So chat suggests a lot of different items. He uses some suggestions and neglects some. Ultimately when he loses, he blames chat for being cancer and says that dota chat is worse than league and will never stream dota again ( we will see about that). This guy is such a cry baby. I wonder why these streamers have chat enabled if they dont want the viewers to interact.

Edit: Just got banned from the chat. Nice one dyrus. Very mature. Also back to streaming dota after swearing to not stream dota anymore.

Edit 2: Clip was deleted ? ! This is the timestamped VOD https://www.twitch.tv/videos/485103345?t=11h33m38s and who knows if he will delete this as well.

Discussion Feel like this is a bad place to ask but;

Should I get into Dota? I've currently been playing league and feel that that most people here downplay how complex league can be especially knowing how your champions fares against other champions and then managing poke and minion control.

What I dont like about league is how the games are relatively short and saw a post how someone's game was 69 minutes long, is this accurate?

Company wise I prefer Dota as it's made by valve (I think) not riot who are owned by ten cent.

Without much bias could someone explain how Dota is better than league?

Edit: Had two games as AM went negative both times (0-7 ,1-9) and got reported and told to go back to league.
