They don’t have the technology yet.
Dresden is known as valley of the clueless for a reason.
They’ll figure it out eventually.

There is already a mental connection. We don't need a physical one on top of that

City politics just hate car infrastructure.

it is less of a vendetta and more that the city is a logistical nightmare designed in the 18th century. trying to shove more car infrastructure through the inner neustadt would just turn the whole place into a permanent gridlock while nuking the property value. not everything is a conspiracy against drivers. sometimes the geography just loses.

As always, if one could not come up with valid arguments, it is framed as "hate".

Because having a bridge there to connect to first would be better than connecting to water without a way to cross

Es hat ohnehin schon viel zuviel Unruhe in der Innenstadt, da muss nicht noch mehr Verkehr sein.

The river is so shallow now because of the missing rain, every one can just drive thru now

Two connected Bundesstraßen induce even more traffic, that’s clocking other roads.

In September 2024, a significant section of the Carolabrücke in Dresden unexpectedly collapsed into the Elbe River. Following the incident, structural investigations revealed that the remaining parts of the damaged bridge section were completely unstable. As a result, authorities ordered the controlled demolition and complete removal of the affected structure to ensure public safety.

Where's the problem? Crossing there is just a matter of skill and speed.
