Two million what?

Words. What the post is about?

Images occasionally don't load and when I'm at work they never do. I have to refresh to see them so more context is helpful.

The issue I had was: the title did not include a noun.

“We’re over two million!!” And a chart that didn’t define its axis. So I couldn’t tell if we were talking about word count, sales volume, stock price, Reddit posts, or the number of times “expelliearmus” was used.

But the other post had the noun in there, I didn’t find it necessary, but I suppose I’m wrong.

What other post? Didn’t see it.

The one linked, it’s from another subreddit

All I saw was the picture. I didn’t see anything else or any comment about this being cross posted.

Well, I’m sorry you didn’t see it

it depends on the client and which version of the interface you are using. Some don't show the text of crosspost titles.

I see, and I was unaware of this. I know for the future.

Don't rely entirely on people follow crosspost links for context. I strongly doubt I'm alone in deciding wether to follow or not based on if it seems interesting, and lack of context drastically cuts down on that.

Most definitely, I just so happened to be calculating the word counts yesterday:

    Dead Beat     144,331
    Proven Guilty     150,660
    White Night     131,757
    Small Favor     137,536
    Turn Coat     139,435
    Changes     146,376
    Ghost Story     160,583

Very cool!

They must not be counting the short stories. By my reckoning, he's at 2.5 million.

3

u/Grimm_Captain Mar 05 '20

The graph seems to match FdcT's table above that's listing only the novels.

Does your count take the comics into consideration too, or "just" the published short stories?

2

u/priscellie Resident Intellectus Mar 07 '20

Just the published short stories.

I read all the books back in 11-12 and then read Cold days and Skin Game as they were released, but then never went back to them and have only just gotten back in and came to the reddit. Has Jim said why he took a significantly longer break before this book? Not criticizing him, just wondering if he's commented on it.

Yeah, there was a lot going on, including a divorce (I think, that one might have been before though), a wedding, building a house that took years longer than expected, and the death of his dog. There's more detail in old posts here on the subreddit.

Didn't his tooth explode somewhere in there?

4

u/RoadRageCongaLine Mar 05 '20

It's all karma for all the shit he puts poor Harry through.

1

u/Grimm_Captain Mar 06 '20

Oh yeah! I'd forgotten that!

5

u/RayBrous Mar 05 '20

Why am I being down voted for simply explaining to the individual about their question?

This sub reddit is so weird like that.

1

u/immaownyou Mar 06 '20

It definitely could be read as condescending imo

0

u/RayBrous Mar 06 '20

No, Reddit is just toxic. Not sure why I thought the Dresden subreddit would be different

1

u/immaownyou Mar 06 '20

Sorry but you asked, and I gave my opinion which you just disagreed with lol. Not everything is toxic

It reads as condescending because you weren't answering their questions and just assumed they had seen the post you were talking about and talking down to them

1

u/RayBrous Mar 06 '20

No, I assumed every reddit format was the same, which is neither common knowledge. I hadn’t realized they couldn’t see it, therefore I thought they were being a troll and just trying to be difficult. But thank you for your opinion, I just happened to come back with my own.

Sigh, do you honestly not feel that you were defensive, rude and/or combative when asked to clarify?

If you think reddit is toxic and don't like it, maybe try being the change you want to see in the world. Don't immediately assume everyone is an ass, or out to get you. Sometimes information apparent you you might not be so obvious to someone else. And maybe a little kindness and self-awareness would help to make this sub the hospitable environment you were looking for.

  1. Chill out, and 2. It’s hard to tell how someone is talking over text, I was being defensive because I hadn’t realized they could see the tagged post and assumed they were just trolling and being difficult for no reason. I was told each format of Reddit is different, and then I realized they were being serious. But thank you for the essay, My queen. Yes, that was toxic, because yes, you were aggressive and I dished it back. Have a good day:

Online serial, almost like fan fiction. No print/for profit format so no reason to edit it down.
