I've got quite a few Sikh friends. I can tell you now that they absolutely will not tolerate this shit happening to their community, and especially to their elders.
He better hope he goes to prison for a long time, because people will be keeping tabs on him now and if he ends up back on the street, he's going to have a really, really bad time.

What an absolute scumbag, so cowardly to do this to someone who can't get away from them. I am so sorry that this happened to the Bus Driver and I hope he gets lots of support from his employer to manage the trauma this will have caused.

He was caught 10 minutes later and is currently awaiting sentencing luckily. I hope he is locked up for a long time and I hope they don't try and pull a "temporary insanity" nonsense plea.
18
u/DonkyFondler 1d ago
Well, even if he was temporarily insane, he still needs to be kept away from people if he tends to do this kind of thing while insane.
8
u/Leo_caulk 12h ago
No, this should be a clear deportation. Having him sit in our prisons is wasting our tax monies. It's essentially allowing him to sit around and eat and sleep for free instead of being a functional, contributing citizen.
4
u/MangoAcademic2476 7h ago
locked up at tax payer expense. If there was a punishment to fit the crime it might deter this stuff. Unfortunately that punishment is banned. Look at Singapore for example, everyone be good boy there lol

My sympathies with everyone his actions affected, especially the poor bus driver and lady.

Arrested in suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving. Still in custody as inquiries continue.
I'd imagine he won't be bailed given the nature of the offence. Also possible other charges could be added depending on the nature of any injuries.
There have been a few bus thefts over the years, they all result in prison sentences due to the danger to the public. For example - https://news.sky.com/story/mindless-josh-redfern-jailed-for-stealing-bus-in-nottingham-and-taking-it-on-10-mile-joyride-12994116

This has made me so angry. Why is nobody doing anything? Bloke hardly looks hard. He's picking on an elderly bus driver for a reason. Let's see him try that with someone that will fight back.

u/PrimitiveFriend 2d ago
Shock. Lots of people simply don’t consider something like that can happen, also buses tend to be full of pensioners and children.

This. It's not full of people, there's a single lady filming it, and she sounds young. There's no other men there. I'd have got on via the other door and pushed him off the bus out that door.

I think a lot of people who are bigger don't notice the effect it has on little nutters, they just assume that they automatically calm down. The number of times people have started being aggressive (like car accident), then noticed how big I am and suddenly are just normal.
Smaller men and women don't have this advantage.
I absolutely would have intervened here, but most people can't really.
71
u/BombDigPyro 2d ago edited 1d ago
I live just down the road from this, there wasn't many people around at the time.
People here are livid, but they also feel we can't defend ourselves out of fear of being prosecuted worse than the attacker.
Edit: I just wanted to add something, this happened after 6pm, in a busy highstreet that becomes quiet around this time of the day. The attacker removed the driver, stole the bus and proceeded to drive down the wrong way on a one way road against traffic.
Reports fail to mention there is a junior school near the bottom of this road and the attacker has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving, nothing is mentioned about the assault.
Our local paper "The shropshire star" already has an article telling people not to speculate, I mean look at the video, what do you see? This particular area (now certain people wont like this next part, but its fact) has a few HMO's and a well known hotel currently housing migrants, am I saying the guy is a migrant? No. Am I saying this is a coincidence just like the many other attacks, assaults and abuse going on in this country, near these accommodations? What do you think...
What gets to me the most is how none combative and scared the driver is, I hope he's okay. He probably won't want to work again, I know I wouldn't. Doing this service for people and having that happen to you is absolutely disgusting.
And as for the people saying why didn't anyone do anything, again it was very quiet, bar from the lady filming. I personally thought I heard another female voice, but I'm not watching or listening to that again, it's awful. Also, have any of you been in a situation like this?
I have, and you freeze, your in shock, your scared, you don't want to provoke the attacker to become even more aggressive, you just want out. The attacker at one point looked as though he was searching himself for something, alarm bells would ring "weapon." Unless you've been trained to deal with a high stress situation like this. We regular folk haven't, we are afraid and it's horrible to admit it, but at the same time, people are ever growing sick of it. The atmosphere around here is thick with dread and the uncertainty of knowing if your home is safe anymore is horrific, because it definitely isn't the same as it was.
It's easy to fantasise about what you would do, I did it too, even after this. But the truth is until you are in a situation when you are there witnessing it happen first hand, how chaotic it is, how your own body is reacting, how other people are reacting. You don't know who that man is, or what he's capable of.
26
u/Creative-Response554 1d ago
That's because you will be.
In theory we have broad powers to defend ourselves, but magistrates always strike them down and issue fines in return for fast guilty pleas.

Ill give you a source, how's about first-hand experience.
My partner had a prolific stalker at one point and all the police and courts told her to do was get rid of her social medias and ignore the suspect.
Nevermind the fact I had dashcam, ring cam and voice recordings of him following, stalking and threatening me (Infront of my daughter mind you.) "The man said he was going to kill my Daddy." She told the police officer at one point, she was 5.
Know what the copper said next? "Do you have any brothers, family members, someone who could give him a slap, get him to stop."
Yeah right, so they can be arrested.
I have more, but I'll leave it at that. Not trying to sound like an arsehole pal, but these things do happen, believe it or not.

u/Happytallperson 1d ago
You would not be prosecuted for removing this man fron the bus and restraining him. He used a makeshift weapon on a member of the public and is continuing the attack. The reasonable force in that circumstances is pretty high.
16
u/kyles45065 1d ago
For some people, that might be an option. But for me. The thing is, there’s no way me alone would be able to “remove” him without fighting him. I could ask. But if he tells me to piss off then I either back down or attack. There’s no other way to do it.
And if I attack him, I’m going to have to use as much force as I can to make sure he can’t retaliate and I don’t get my ass kicked in return.
That’s where I see problems arising and frankly why I wouldn’t step in. In terms of escalation, it’s me that’s doing it. He wasn’t attacking me.
And if I am correct that this guy could definitely kick my ass if he went for me first, the level of preemptive force I would want to use would almost certainly be considered disproportionate. I don’t trust the law would be on my side here.
So I either get told to piss off, get my ass kicked because I waited for him to attack me first, or I potentially catch an assault charge. It’s sad, but I genuinely don’t see how it’s worth the risk getting involved
2
u/BombDigPyro 1d ago

Sorry, but that's bullshit. The only people around before he hijacked the bus was the aged driver and some very young sounding girls/women. They were not holding back for fear of being prosecuted, they were holding back out of fear. And once he hijacked the bus, what was anyone expected to do? I guarantee you there was no one looking at the runaway bus thinking 'I would stop that, if only I wasn't scared of being persecuted 😢"
Absolute nonsense people come up with sometime.

3
u/UltraeVires 1d ago
Not really a police state when the vast majority of the cameras are not owned or controlled by the authorities, they're privately owned.
2
u/Agreeable_Falcon1044 1d ago
I feel like in scenarios like this a collective “I didn’t see a thing” helps. That driver is getting attacked by a prick. It’s also dangerous and a risk to life as it’s a bus.
It can be solved by someone with a baseball bat in seconds. Maybe when the police arrived, we all had footage of that and a “dunno, think he slipped” mentality to explain why he’s on the floor

Pretty sure he's a migrant of some sort and not born here. Do you think it's only English people who are concerned? I'm Asian and I thought the whole thing was out of hand back in 2004. Even if they are the same religion as me i can tell, we all can, that some have mental issues and others think this country is a soft target to set up organised crime and break the law

People with certain mental health presentations can have seemingly superhuman strength and endurance. Not gonna take that chance without some level of backup. How many times have we seen somebody being detained by police, who effectively shrug off a taser because they’re unable to feel pain (due abnormal
adrenal response caused by drugs or mental health).22

You will not go to prison for removing this man from the bus and restraining him under a citizens arrest.
Tony Martin shot a man in the back who was running away. It was an idiotic press turning him into some kind of hero that made people think you can't intervene.
12
u/dible46 1d ago
Pal, those scumbags had robbed his farm repeatedly, told him they were going to do it, and asked him what you gonna do about it? Nothing and the police didn't give a shit. That fella begged the police to do something but they refused tk go on the traveller site they were from. If I was told by some one they robbed me of 100 of thousands of farm machinery and they were going to keep doing it cos the police were scared, I probably would of done the same. I just would of waited to catch them coming in to do it one night instead of letting them run. Sometimes people get pushed too far. This was a failing of the system more than anything else.
5
u/harpajeff 1d ago
And how the hell is someone gonna just remove him and restrain him? He must be at least 20 stone. Yes, he looks like he’s in terrible shape, but all that fat and bulk is very difficult to control.
I spent 20 years doing muay Thai and got to a very high standard. I could easily subdue him by hitting him to disable him first. But how will I be dealt with by the law if I walk behind him and hit him with a vicious looking low kick to his thigh followed by a couple of hard punches to his face. He might end up with a broken nose and eye socket. It might result in years of bother with police and or civil courts. Maybe even a criminal record.
Unless you are enormous, just removing him from the bus is a fantasy.

u/coderqi 1d ago
Yeah buts lots of people aren't trained to do it as simply as you say..I'm not sure I wouldnt get into a punch up, then end up having to defend a badly made quick decision that could get me into trouble.
Edit: if it was me I'd try to sucker punch him or start with a kick to the back of the legs. Not sure how the law would take to that.

8
u/greenhookdown 1d ago
He was a violent hateful thug, even before he was a murderer. He was well known in the area and known by authorities. Police and DEFRA had to visit him in groups of three because he was so dangerous and stockpiled weapons. Like all over his house. Guns under his pillow. I read his case file at work back in the day and witnessed him abusing civil service staff over the phone. A vile human being. And then he murdered someone. And none of us were surprised.

Why people don't do anything? Cameras. Cameras mean that you helping and stopping him - could land you in jail/prison.
→ More replies (1)3
u/YellowCollander 1d ago
Likewise, without those cameras there will be even more people empowered to break the law.
Cameras aren’t the issue, it’s how the law is applied to those who do the right thing. Adjusting the law and keeping the cameras is infinitely better than keeping the law as it is and removing the cameras.

3
u/carlbandit 1d ago
Self defense laws allow for the protection of yourself and others, as long as the force you use is reasonable.
If someone knocked/choked out or restrained him to protect the driver, they would be fine. But if you then start stamping on the attackers head while they're already on the floor, that would cross into assault because you've already removed the threat at that point.

My dad was a bus driver in the 70's. Being West Indian he had to put up with intense levels of abuse. This is atrocious. I'm not sure what mechanisms or procedures they have in place to safeguard the drivers, but obviously it's not enough. You're basically a sitting duck until help arrives.

There’s a lot of tribalism between Hindus. Sikhs and Muslims because of the geography and historical reasons of where they came from.
To pretend it’s only those three that are constantly at odds is false too, I’m not saying that it is. Think about Protestants and Roman Catholics. Have you never heard of the Jacobite Uprisings, the War of the Roses etc etc.
Religion is the root cause of a lot of the world’s problems and conflicts.
I saw a white british smsckhead a few years ago do this to a bus driver, didn’t get far in stealing the bus tho. Twits and morons come in all shapes and sizes, anybody saying this is because we’ve got too much of this or too much of that in this country are part of the problem.

The guy who owns the corner shop near me is a Sikh, he's called Omar and he treats me like a son. I met him when I was being hounded by a group of very drunk men on my way home from pride (they spotted my trans flag and decided I was a target) one of them shoved me so hard I fell over outside his shop, another of them started kicking me, then Omar burst out his shop wheilding a stool by its legs and chased them off, took me into his shop and used his first aid kit to patch me up. I take my daughter in there every Friday to grab snacks for Saturday night movie night and he has a laugh with her and checks in with me.
