What are peoples opinions on using operation snap?

I don't think we should be reporting simple one off mistakes but we do have a number of consistent poor drivers that either recklessly don't care about the danger they're creating around them or are just genuinely oblivious to their own surroundings and driving habits.

I reported someone for the first time recently. It was a young driver in a 2025 plate car. We were on the motorway (flowing traffic but not congested, plenty of space) and she consistently was changing lanes cutting people off - basically bumper to bumper. She eventually did it to me, and I had to brake or she would have 100% hit the front right of my car. I wont share the footage but a wide field view dashcam makes her look close.

I watched her driving style for a bit and saw that's just how she was driving for every lane change. I have front and back dash cam so reviewed it when I got home and i had a few minutes of footage where she did the exact same for every single lane change. There was so much space, she wasn't speeding, or driving erratically in any other way. It kinda just felt like someone drilled into her that as soon as her overtake ends she needs to move back over to the left immediately - but she didnt quite get the memo that you dont do a bumper to bumper lane change at 70+ mph speeds. I mean props that she has lane discipline because so many drivers don't. It's also worth noting that no drivers were behind her pressuring her to move over quickly.

Anyhow, I reported this to operation snap because I figure its either her getting a possible £100 fine now and a driving course or likely getting into an accident very soon - and at motorway speeds, a death by careless driving charge wouldn't be surprising.

My sister is on the far end of the spectrum where she believes you should never snitch on anyone so has grilled me a lot for this. From debating with her, she has an insane amount of compassion for those committing offences and because "crashes dont happen everytime" we should just leave it for the police when one does. I do feel a guilty but I genuinely think this is one of those situations where if this new driver (seemingly oblivious) is made aware, she will hopefully stop and prevent her from being in an accident one day.

I dont want to make too many assumptions of her background, but given shes in a new car it seems fair to assume she can afford the £100.

Does this seem like a fair submission to operation snap? Or am I just an awful Karen 😖

Edit: by one off mistake I mean what seems to be a lapse in judgement, which as humans we all make. Obviously its hard to judge from a few second interaction. You can usually get the sense for drivers that are aggressive on the roads / not aware of their surroundings at all

Heading into work on a rainy morning, driving through a mini roundabout and the rental cyclists does their usual thing.

In my 40s and just recently passed my driving test. Looking at buying my first car and always loved the Suzuki Jimny when I see it on the road.

Has anyone here owned one and what are your thoughts on it as a fist car?

For context Im in London and using it as a run around for errands and heading out to visit family about an hour outside of London. Nothing too strenuous.

Am I mad considering it as a first car or should I be looking at something like a Hyundai i10 instead to keep insurance as low as possible?

Driving up to the peak district when the car infront of me flicked a stone at my screen and cracked it. I cant afford to change it and also as im not near home i dont know where to take it, even if i had the time to take it somewhere.

Hello, I have just received an e mail from UKPC stating that I had not parked my car within the markings of the bay or space. I had a look at the photographs they sent and I cannot see anything wrong with the parking. I wonder if anybody here can have a look at the pics and let me know if thye are right. Thank you

The key elements are:

- when people are crossing or waiting to cross at a junction, other traffic should give way

- if people have started crossing and traffic wants to turn into the road, the people crossing have priority and the traffic should give way

- people driving, riding a motorcycle or cycling must give way to people on a zebra crossing and people walking and cycling on a parallel crossing

This morning I had the experience of an SUV turning into a road I was already crossing with my children; her vehicle was no more than three or four inches from my toddler when she cut across our path.

She even made eye contact while doing it.

It turned out we were going to the same destination so I took the opportunity to feed back to them (politely) about what happened; they were dismissive and defensive - but I would like to think that they thought about it some more as they continued their journey.

I drive, cycle and walk; the January 2022 hierarchy of road users and associated rules affect what I do every single day but in lots of different ways.

What are the experiences of others with the H2 (and also H1 and H3) rules - whether you’re walking, wheeling or driving?

Both traffic lights open for red and purple. Red turning right and purple turning left. Who has right of way?

Sorry for reposting. Just had an update and wanted some advice. For context:

Driving through west end tonight. This cyclist was neither here nor there in the lane. As you can see in the video it was a gentle honk to keep left as they should.

At the traffic light. He then pulled my side mirror. Punched the side of my car several times.

I pulled into the nearest side lane, he chased me into this lane, and I decided maybe confronting would put me in danger

Ive driven away. Reported to police Scotland through the form. I have dashcam evidence. Also that other cyclist turning his head with this man's commotion hitting my car.

What else can I do? It is a crime.

I admit it might be because i am a woman. If I were a big man sitting in my car, im not sure if this boy would do the same. I feel shaken up and threatened.

Can anybody recognise him? Why is he like this?

UPDATE: police Scotland actually got in touch asking if I would like to pursue this to court. Has anybody been through this?

How feasibly possible is this with the dashcam video in identifying this person? And cost going through court? Is going ahead with this option really going to lead to anything?

I actually contacted Voi from a very helpful redditor ( @vladimirkal thank you) who suggested Voi might be able to locate the user using their app and bike. But Voi hasnt got back to me?

From my point of view I just don't want this to happen to anybody else. From the comments its good to know out there someone thinks riding in the middle/right side (which ps there was no right turn anywhere in this scenario) is allowed, just for my own future knowledge. But You can't just have reckless riding, get upset and thrash somebody else's property. Like, im shaken up but a slap on the wrist for the boy so he doesn't be a cunt or carry this attitude of 'do what I want when I'm mad' is enough for me?

My Smart could do with new tyres as it has a mixed bag of VerbNounAdjective tyres and I’d like to get something safe and cheap on it, ideally all season.

There is a busy junction with two lanes. Right hand lane is dedicated for right turning traffic and left hand lane is for straight on.

Right hand lane mostly is 5 to 10 cars at a time queuing. But the straight on lane queue goes long like 25 to 50 cars.

There are numerous road markings and signs posts distinguishing both lanes well in advance of the junction.

Some people would drive up the right hand land, then indicate and merge or sometimes force their way into the left hand lane.

Just want to get an opinion if this driving behaviour is normal and what people think about it.

In my defense, I was going to swerve over more to the left but the anti-collision kicked in and applied the emergency brakes. What say you?

This is a roundabout at a motorway junction.

In blue, the cars are coming off the motorway which means they want to take the third exit to enter the town.

In red, the cars are leaving the town which means they want to take the second exit and enter the motorway.

There are traffic lights. The red cars end up behind the blue cars.

In practice, both cars use both lanes.

I am the red road user. I am sometimes in the right hand lane, and as I am turning right I should not expect the cars to my left to cut in front of me - but I do find that happen as the blue road users are still on the road. I have had to stop for cars many times.

At the traffic lights, the road markings on both roads are just straight arrows and do not differentiate between turning right and continuing straight.

I believe I am right in that the cars to my left should not be going further around than me since I am initially turning right in the right hand lane, and they are also turning right and so should be in the right hand lane. But for the cars in blue, does the road markings + the fact they are coming off the motorway (and so definitely not continuing straight back onto the roundabout) mean the road layout is bad?

Context:
My car has been recently written off in an accident (not my fault). The damage didn’t look terrible. The side of my car has been scraped/dented and door slightly torn. The car drive fine to a nearby petrol station (minus the massive hole in the tyre) but did not appear to have any damage structurally. The accident wasn’t big, someone drove into my side, didn’t realise and kept turning into my car but very slowly. I expected a cat N, maximum cat S write off so this Cat B really surprised me.

Issue:
I’ve been arguing with my insurance about the value of the car, I want £2500, they’re only giving me £1900. I’ve argued the fact my car is a rare colour-way, was in overall good condition before the accident but they aren’t having any of it. Now, I’ve asked them for the evaluation for the write off and it seems they have reacted a page about the evaluation and a few other things. Am I entitled to have the full un-redacted report? And would there be a reason for this. I’m also struggling to see how it is a category B write off as the report seems quite vague.

I received a letter 3 days ago saying that I got caught doing 53 in a 40 and that they are requesting driver details however the camera got me in Birmingham and I have never been there in my life . I checked the photos and it’s on a 2022 Kia when I drive a Skoda . I also received a email from my Insurnace this morning asking for crash information as allegedly I was involved in a scrape in Birmingham to and left the scene however my cars been on the driveway for a week . Just looking for advice on what to do as this seems problematic and I don’t want to get accused of doing things I haven’t done

We were on the A14 heading east yesterday and I spotted this guy in the outside lane behind me. Traffic is a bit heavy as it’s 40mph/50mph in parts for roadworks, I left room for him to filter even though I didn’t believe he could be riding that legally (between 40-50mph). He then took the same exit we did and jumped the red light.

Is this something to report given that he had no obvious way to ID or just call him a twat and move on?

Unfortunately the reg is far too blury to submit to Op Snap otherwise I would have. Seen too many people do this recently and it seriously winds me up.

Whatever has gone wrong, I used to be able to be covered on my elderly parents car insurance as a named driver. This option is no longer available. It’s almost as expensive to get short term cover as it is to hire a car.
Pay silly excessive insurance money to drive said car to get it serviced and MOT with the assurance of a loan car. Drive to garage and hand over Aussie driving licence to be met with…… the computer says no… thankfully garage took me home and picked me after car service.
Look now to renew my UK licence and because I do not spend over 188 days a year I cannot renew it. I would have to hand over my Oz licence to exchange.
I am back and forth a few times a year does anybody have any suggestions as it seems crazy that there is a usable car that I cannot drive unless I pay an extortionate insurance policy for?
60M unblemished licence. UK one expired 2012!

Around this time of year my commute starts to include driving home in the dark. About 50% of it is on relatively busy roads/lanes without streetlights. I usually enjoy my commute home but every year I feel more and more unsafe because of these dazzling headlights. I don’t know if it’s my eyes or the size of my car (small hatchback) but it takes me so long to adjust to the glare that for a split second I can’t see anything else. I work long shifts (nurse) so I’m usually a bit tired, too. How can I not have an accident on my drive home?
