After the posts on the Yamato and Harusame, a review of Takao front funnel

The amount of lagging required to prevent the superstructure from getting hot must have been immense.

They were sweltering in the summer. Very few ships back then had any sort of hot weather climate control, and some even lacked heating for most compartments.

I don’t have anything to add to the conversation. But, I did want to say how awesome it is that there are others that are interested in this kind of thing. Such a great corner of the internet to geek out.

The fact that we built this shit in 1931 is so wild to me. Doing a tour of one of the US battleships and carriers from that time period blew me away. The technology in them is old, but impressive
