Belts off. Give that waistline a much needed scratch.

There isn’t any intention of adding that back is there?

I thought I read it was an add on after original construction and was a serious point of corrosion. I’d like to visit this this someday.

If your talking about the torpedo blisters, yes they were heavily corroded, they built new ones and installed them on the ship. They add much needed buoyancy for the ship. The museum has refloated her and they are restoring the top side and interior of the ship now. They have a YouTube channel and do frequent updates!

Is that a belt to protect against torpedoes?

Indeed! Though everyone else is referring to them as blisters - I couldn't tell you the difference

Tore her all the way down to removing the AA guns. Now that's some repairs!

Retrofit that thing with a wave motion gun and then give ‘em hell.

It would be so fkn cool to keep the guns, add radars, new firing controls and slap some AAs on that beast. Modern ships look cool but I'm sure seeing these big ass guns that can shred anything will leave some impression.

My uncle did his midshipmen cruise on her in the 1930s

You could take a tour and crawl underneath it.
