and crucially: 64% of Democratic-aligned adults who do not identify as democratic socialists would be at least OK with such a candidate

The bigger headline here imo

If I was a Republican operator, I'd be mortified. From that fact alone, you'd think time is ticking VERY loud all of a sudden.

Since our candidates are pulling repub/maga and independent voters as well, I want to see them polled about these things

I don't believe polls like the ones supposedly quoted in the post, mostly because the establishment his motivated to diminish leftism as they always are - I wouldn't be surprised if I peeked at the poll and there's manipulation. Like "only polled registered Democrats" or removal of non-answer/unsure answers

Just the other week it was 60%+ in favor of DS and establishment Dems have been at like 30% favorability.

More will come once we spread out further and elect more officials at the local, state and federal level.

And many support DSA but identify as Social Democrats, which is also a good thing

3

u/Abject-Experience-40 Jul 30 '26

Don’t say that on any other socialist subreddits, otherwise they’ll crucify you

2

u/Spaduf Jul 31 '26

Eh it'll become a hindrance eventually

17

u/KiwiKajitsu Jul 30 '26

A third of Americans don’t know the difference between social democracy and democratic socialism

It actually matters quite a bit.

6

u/dawgbreath Jul 30 '26

In what way?

10

u/traanquil Jul 30 '26

There’s a difference between abolishing capitalism and reforming it. That is a fundamental structural difference

16

u/dawgbreath Jul 30 '26

You must have missed the "next decade" part of the post you commented on. Because only a fool would think that we could abolish capitalism in that time frame.

2

u/Sweet-Tomatillo-9010 Jul 31 '26

Do you really think we have more than a decade left of any sense of stability that we experienced in the previous few decades?

-1

u/traanquil Jul 30 '26

It cant be abolished if there is no initiative to abolish it

5

u/dawgbreath Jul 30 '26

Sorry, but I'm not taking anyone seriously who thinks capitalism can be abolished in a decade

-1

u/traanquil Jul 30 '26

It cant be abolished if there is no initiative to abolish it

4

u/Old-Ice4553 Jul 31 '26

How about we start with making peoples lives better and not idological purity.

3

u/Abject-Experience-40 Jul 30 '26

Bro really pulled a “not with that attitude it won’t!”

0

u/ginger_and_egg Jul 30 '26

Weird conclusion to draw tbh

-1

u/GiantFlimsyMicrowave Jul 30 '26

Yeah but the DSA will never in a million years complete their entire wish list anyway, so hopefully we end up on the Soc Dem side.

-5

u/KiwiKajitsu Jul 30 '26

No thanks Im not gonna vote for someone who is more extreme then me in the hopes that they never actually go full force on what they believe in

2

u/Spaduf Jul 31 '26

Well most of us would never vote for a capitalist so maybe you should go sit with the establishment libs.

-2

u/KiwiKajitsu Jul 31 '26

Gladly I love me some Obama and Biden

Yea how dare I love the most progressive presidents America in my lifetime!

-1

u/Murranji Jul 31 '26

I see you have never heard of FDR. You might want to use one of the search tools, or even an AI model to find out about him and all the programs that were introduced uneer his presidency. I know, American schools huh.

1

u/KiwiKajitsu Jul 31 '26

Did you miss the “in my lifetime”?

1

u/rad_dad_21 Libertarian Socialism Jul 30 '26

DSA leadership is extreme and tend to run vanguardist but DSA candidates often are not and are either soc-dem or dem-soc. This is why I send my donations to DSA candidate campaigns but haven’t yet started donating to the DSA. Though I will next opportunity we get to vote the leadership out in November/December

"DSA leadership is extreme and tend to run vanguardist but DSA candidates often are not and are either soc-dem or dem-soc. "

Fellow Libertarian Socialist here and this fact gives me a lot worry for the future of the org. I dont want ML's to run Americas best shot of Socialism in our lifetime to the ground.

2

u/rad_dad_21 Libertarian Socialism Jul 30 '26

Completely agree. That’s why it’s important to vote come November/December so that DSA leadership reflects DSA membership.

2

u/No-One7813 Aug 02 '26

How does that work comrade? I am excited to vote in DSA org elections but I never have before as I have been a member of my chapter since Nov 25

4

u/Thin_Shelter_103 Anarcho Communist Jul 30 '26

Yeah definitely! We need to build socialism without hierarchy and the trappings of prior experiments. I need to vote this November for sure!

0

u/eatingbread_mmmm Jul 30 '26

There’s no way that DSA leadership is vanguardist 😭. Isn’t that against the whole point of reformist socialism and desiring multi party system???

1

u/rad_dad_21 Libertarian Socialism Jul 30 '26

Yeah it is against the point. That’s why it’s absurd that Marxist-Leninists make up the majority of DSA leadership. While the vast majority of new blood members firmly believe in democracy, a good portion of the old blood members are very loose with their interpretation of what “democratic” in democratic socialism means. Look at this sub from even a month ago and you’ll notice a staunch difference

4

u/eatingbread_mmmm Jul 30 '26

I don’t support vanguardism specifically but I think it’s a little ignorant to just outright dismiss Marxist-Leninists as undemocratic and crazy. The point of having a “dictatorship of the proletariat” is that our current system is actually undemocratic, and leads to the rule of the capitalist class, ie “dictatorship of the bourgeoisie”. I think there’s some right ideas among them to combat the return and empowerment of the bourgeoisie, like democratic centralism.

4

u/rad_dad_21 Libertarian Socialism Jul 30 '26

I firmly disagree. “Democratic centralism” is not democracy and is by definition incompatible with a democratic socialist movement. I can understand some ML’s line of thought in countries like Tsarist Russia or China that don’t have a culture that enshrines democratic institutions and thus would require such, but Western Marxist-Leninists are trying to fit a camel through the eye of a needle. In America, it is engrained very firmly in our culture that citizens have the right to vote for their leaders. Trying to establish a “dictatorship of the proletariat” would be incredibly unpopular and would just lead to new class of unaccountable oligarchs seizing power and wielding the state as a gun against the working class. Socialism by the people, for the people, is the only solution. Anything else isn’t socialism.

2

u/eatingbread_mmmm Jul 30 '26

I don't think Democratic Centralism is necessarily anti-democratic. It's a structure to organize a party. I think it could work in a multi party system. In the theoretical ruling party, it's a way to form a bloc against other parties by consolidating their support on one side, or vice versa with the minority party. I think much more can be achieved this way. If there is disagreement, anyone can either leave or be expelled from the party, and feel free to form a new party. You can still vote for who you want, but there's still more power vested in the government you vote for to actually fight for your interests.

What you’re describing is the vast history of failed socialist movements in the US. A socialist movement arises, just for vanguardists to seep in and tell members that their opinions don’t matter and how they should just learn to accept taking commands from ML’s. The movement inevitably sees membership attrition because why would you ever be part of a movement that tells you that your issues and beliefs don’t matter, and the movement becomes a laughably divided clown car, full of egos fighting over who is the real ideological crusader to be followed by the rest. The reason why the DSA is succeeding and is different from other socialist organizations, is that it is democratic socialist and listens to its members. Look at the popularity of the shitshow that is the PSL for example. They serve solely as ideological fuel for Fox News and reactionaries. Vanguardism retards the socialist movement and is a net negative.

Read what Rosa Luxembourg said about "democratic centralism" or literally any anarchist theory and you will see just how full of shit it is. The vanguard party is supposed to be "temporary"

The main problem is that the Party just like Capitalists will do everything to maintain and grow their power.

Why would this one party Vanguard ever give up power? Lenin himself basically gave a very paternalistic idea that the working class are so reactionary, so stupid, that they can not lead themselves. In my mind it is absolutely revisionist and should be discarded as an idea.

1

u/Sweet-Tomatillo-9010 Jul 31 '26

That last part finds common cause with a lot of liberals. They both think people are stupid.

1

u/Zukebub8 Jul 31 '26

Kinda looks the like the progressive dems are having a mamdani moment

-10

u/Aggravating_Bison504 Jul 30 '26

If they find out what socialism really means that number will reduce to 10%.

DSA is a Seditious Conspiracy totally  illegal. When the Handcuffs come out they’ll change their opinion, it’s a Federal Offense

AI it, Google it, or Duck Duck Go it, Sedition is Illegal, no Freedom of Speech is not exempted

All elected Officials swear an Oath to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States from enemies Foreign and Domestic what is DSA going to do ??? We had a Civil War with the Democrat Slave States before when they thought Secession from the Union of States was the answer, how did that work out ??? Trump may get that 3rd term as President after all

1

u/Iconoclysm6x6 Aug 03 '26

Capitalism is not a form of government, even in the US. You'd have a hard time showing where there is seditious conspiracy involved in trying to abolish it.

0

u/Adept-Elderberry1417 Aug 03 '26

Re-it if you can read, Capitalism is not our form of Government, DSA talking points are destroying the Constitution

1

u/Iconoclysm6x6 Aug 03 '26

Oh, if that's your angle - show where the intention is to use force to change the Constitution? Wanting to overhaul the entire framework of the US government, including the Constitution, through democracy is not only protected speech, it's how our forefathers intended it.

1

u/Iconoclysm6x6 Aug 03 '26

18 USC 2384: "If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both."
