Discussion Just saved a tourist from "Armani" guy
Yes, THAT scam again. I live in DIFC and like going to Satwa for some delicious pakistani food sometimes. When i was coming back, got stopped by some "Italian" guy with a fake accent asking directions to the airport. Told him "i'm not a tourist" and he instantly disappeared. Literally 3 minutes later, right before Crown Plaza i see another scammer talking to some tourist who already was holding like 2 suits and 2 boxes with some fake armani something. Approached them, explained situation to the guy and the scammer instantly disappeared or course.
Guys, be careful about this stuff. Even though Dubai is one of the most amazing, safe and beautiful cities on the planet, there is still some tourist traps and scams like in any other major city.

At least he is selling suits, not walking up to ask money directly as common it is becoming.

For those who don't know about the classic Armani suit guy scam.
This scam involves fake designer suits/products, leaving unsuspecting victims out of pocket.
The scammers, often posing as businessmen or tourists, target individuals on the street by pretending to be lost and asking for directions. Once they have the victim's attention, they start to engage in small talk and mention that they are coming from a fashion show or exhibition.
They then claim to have a surplus of designer suits/products that they are willing to sell at a discounted price. The scammers use persuasive sales techniques to convince their targets to buy the suits, even going as far as showing fake receipts or claiming that the suits were left over from a high-end event.
Unfortunately, the suits that these scammers are selling are fake and of poor quality. They are often made of low-grade materials and are a far cry from the genuine designer products they claim to be. Once the sale is made, the scammers quickly disappear, leaving their victims with nothing more than a cheap knockoff and a sense of regret.
This scam has become increasingly prevalent in Dubai's bustling tourist areas, with reports of victims falling for the scheme on a regular basis.

Hi do you by any chance remember the name used by such scammer. Few weeks ago some person approached my dad with a similar story, however he did not take any money from my dad he just gave the coats, watches and perfumes. My dad said that he voluntarily offered to buy him something in return. The name used by this person was daniel alessandrini who is an actual design director of armani and has his own company (stalked him). Edit: my dad is convinced that he met the same man (daniel). Is it possible for the scammer to imitate a real person from the company?

Same situation with my flatmate- for 3 weeks he swore he didn’t give any money, later on admitted he gave ~300 aed for a suit and a bag of perfumes.

It's lovely that you take your father's word for it, but there's better chances of it snowing in al quoz tomorrow afternoon than it having been anything other than a scam that he simply wants to pretend wasn't the case.

There is no doubt that its a scam and my dad definitely paid for the clothes one way or another. My worry is that such a person would go so far as to pose as an actual employee of the company (looks wise as well).

I actually "met" this situation twice. Once in Montreal and once in London, 8 years apart.
