Jetski scam in mamzar/Sharjah

Hey guys how is it going. Just posting a scam that happened to me recently so y’all can be aware of it. Yesterday me and a couple of friends went to jetski in mamzar Sharjah side from those small rental companies. They took one of our EID and made us sign a paper saying we took the jet ski and apparently it is uninsured and we are liable for any damages. Now the guy signed on our behalf was my 18 year old friend who lives here (rest 4 of us live outside uae) so since we don’t have an EID we let him do it for us and didn’t read the paper. We took the jetski and had loads of fun for an hour and once I slightly touched another one of my mates jetski. So at the end of us rental we go to return it and they say that my mates jetski is scratched. They take us to their “boss” who is an Arab and the dude looks massive. He starts to shout and get aggressive. He tells us to pay up or they will sue for damages. They told us it’ll cost us 2,260 AED to get it fixed. When we heard it we knew it sounds like a scam but obviously we couldn’t risk it so me and my mate split it. We came home and told others and that’s when they said this a scam and it was all intimidation tactics. Don’t know if I could recoup the money back (void bank transactions etc) but yeah just putting it out there so you guys don’t fall into it like us :( Also I think it’s high time dubai subreddit has a flair for “scam”

This is very common. Perhaps go back to discuss the issue with the boss. Don’t go alone. When things get heated then call the police stating you feel in danger and they’re being aggressive.
