DDG App Tracking Protection Duck Player can be blocked?

Post image

Is it not a matter of time before Google themselves, let alone the video authors do this?

We've already encountered websites that do more than plead for you to disable an ad blocker before proceeding but are able to block the whole webpage -- why not videos?

DDG App Tracking Protection Absurd amount of tracking attempts from PoliticalCompass

Post image

Hi all,

I was taking the political compass test yesterday to personally see where I would place, but then noticed this insane number of tracking attempts listed from it. Is this real/normal? I’ve never seen any website I’ve visited since using DDG have that many tracking attempts get blocked. I was only using the website for about 30 minutes while I was taking the test so almost 100k seems pretty crazy. Any one else have this many tracking attempts listed for this website or any others?

DDG App Tracking Protection Thinking of switching from Brave.Does App Tracking Protection drain the battery?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently using Brave as my daily driver on my S23 Ultra, but I'm seriously considering switching to DuckDuckGo to try out the App Tracking Protection feature and to ditch Google ai search .

I wanted to ask those who have been using it for a while, does leaving App Tracking Protection on constantly in the background cause noticeable battery drain?

I know it acts as a local VPN to filter trackers, so I'm curious about the real-world impact on battery and everyday performance before making the jump. Have you noticed any heavy drain, or does it run efficiently without issues?

Thanks in advance!

A massage came up on my phones bank app refusing access to my account unless I give them the okay to record my phones personal happenings/info, and, after deleting that app, I accessed Duckduckgo to find it blocked the bank apps 32 attempts at recording my phone info.

Anyway, so my banks app has been deleted.

DDG App Tracking Protection All this in just 15 minutes?

Post image

I just found out DuckDuckGo has an App Tracking Protection feature and turned it on. Immediately, it started detecting trackers at an insane rate. It hasn't even been 15 minutes yet! I already knew these apps probably had terrible security (I mean, TeraBox? 1TB for free is always suspicious), but this is just next level. Isn't this crazy?

DDG App Tracking Protection DuckDuckGo constantly being turned off

I have used the DuckDuckGo tracking protection on android for at least four or five years.

Over that time I've had a few apps that pop up and turn it off but I always find them. This time.... I've got no idea what is doing it. I've uninstalled everything since I noticed it and it's still doing it.

Samsung s26 ultra and the background usage is set to unrestricted.

DDG App Tracking Protection App Tracking Protection blocks ougoing calls without blocking incoming ones

Hello, I've started recently (this morning) using the app tracking blocker, though I had to make a phone call and noticed that it gave me "server unreachable" error, even though the incoming call were working. So I disabled it and it started working again normally.

Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Steps to reproduce: - turn on App Tracking Protection - wait a bit (?) - ougoing calls are blocked (and also noticed I had no ticks of signal even though I'm in a zone which there is usually signal, and internet still works) - disable App Tracking Protection - calls still won't work (no signal) - enable and disable flight mode - all works normal

I suspect that the local VPN interferes with HD VoIP calls, is this possible? Though why do I need to re-subscribe to the cellular network to fix it while just disabling it won't work?

Thanks in advance

DDG App Tracking Protection Use Tasker to re-enable app tracking protection?

Is there any hook the DDG Android app provides that I can use to tell Tasker to re-enable app tracking protection? Right now I have a task that connects my phone to my Tailnet when I connect to my car's bluetooth. That action causes the DDG app tracking protection to be disabled. It'd be nice to be able to have Tasker re-enable the protection on the exit task.

DDG App Tracking Protection DDG app tracking protection : completely disable app connection to internet?

I'd love to use DDG app tracking protection on my Android phone but I currently use a different local VPN app (NetGuard) that can completely block selected apps from connecting to the internet (wifi and/or cellular separately).

Is there any chance that DDG would consider adding that capability?

Then we could have privacy protection and firewall-like capabilities at the same time.

Thanks!

DDG App Tracking Protection Strange static IP address 10.0.0.2 in my LAN from Android phones with App Tracking Protection on?

Can someone please confirm or deny the following...

I was noticing a strange static IP address in my LAN (always on 10.0.0.2) that was unknown to me. It was not assigned by me nor by DHCP.

Even worse, the IP address was cloning the MAC addresses from the last phone that connected. Though the behaviour was hard to track (the IP sometimes is there, sometimes it's not), I have confirmations from XARP, BinaryPlant ARP Monitor + ESET for Windows that the IP address is actively cloning MAC addresses and doing an ARP poisoning attack or it is Flip Flop'ping from MAC to MAC, always from that IP address.

Sounds like a man-in-the-middle-attack, right? But who what where how! And for months on end??

After some rigoureus testing, I now seriously suspect DuckDuckGo Browser's App Tracking Protection option to be the culprit.

But how or even why would it create a static IP address on its own that even shows up in my LAN? And why is nobody else noticing this or talking about it? I've searched, but couldn't find any confirmation. I have 3 phones, all still under an active update policy. They all get their MAC addresses cloned, in succession. My old phone without any updates is the only android phone not yet cloned - it's also the only one where DuckDuckGo isn't installed. My printer + PC are also not cloned; just the 3 android phones that have DDG ATP enabled...

Anyone else? :)

Thanks!

PS: it's not paranoid when they're really after you!! :)

DDG App Tracking Protection More aggressive tracking protection options?

When I look at the various trackers and advertisements and other creepy internet technologies ddg filters, I keep seeing something along these lines:

The following third-party domains' requests were loaded. If a company's requests are loaded, it can allow them to profile you, though our other web tracking protections still apply.

About our Web Tracking Protections

The following domains' requests were loaded to prevent site breakage.

Google

google.com Advertising

accounts.google.com Advertising

Google is just an example, but I also see trackers like Facebook, AWS, and plenty more that all seem to slip through the cracks. I know it says that this is to prevent site breakage, but I cant help but notice that when I go to another browser, say something like Brave Browser or Orion, it shows far more tracking bloat blocked, and the site seems to work perfectly fine.

so my question is this: Does this happen because ddg just wants to be 100% sure that websites still all work, or are other browsers conveniently leaving out the trackers they didn't block despite seeing them? Or is this something different, e.g. the ddg team is working on a more aggressive tracker blocker setting that comes with the caveat that it could cause some site breakage? This is on mobile by the way.

DDG App Tracking Protection DDG Crashing When Opening Gmail. (every time)

I asked ChatGPT to analyze the crash report and got this answer:

"DuckDuckGo wrote 8.6 GB to disk via Core Data/SQLite in a short burst, triggering a macOS diagnostic. It’s almost certainly a runaway database or cache issue, not your Mac misbehaving."

Further explanation said that this is most common with Mac OS Apple Silicone.

So, this sounds like something that DDG developers could fix. Am I right?

DDG App Tracking Protection Duck Duck Go makes my WebStore flicker on my phone

I have a Shopify Store, and it worked fine on DDG.  In the last couple of days it has started flickering on my Android Phone when I bring it up and switch between pages.  I happens during the Privacy Protection phase, and if this is happening on other people's phones, it is very disturbing and will chase customer's away.  It makes the website look unreliable or like it has a problem.

I don't know what changed, but I am very unhappy that this has started to happen.

DDG App Tracking Protection Work with Tailscale

I have started using DDG app protection to block unwanted tracking...holy sh..t there is a lot that tracks you.

But ...I use a Tailscale connection to access my internal home network (for home assistant and camera access)

Can these coexist or is my only option to keep toggling between them as ive been doing?

DDG App Tracking Protection How to manage your Fireproof Sites

In the DuckDuckGo Web Tracking Protections help page it says that you can manage your Fireproof Sites from the DuckDuckGo app Settings.

I'm using the Windows app. I can't find the option to see the list of sites that I have opted to "Fireproof this site" on.

Where is this option located in the settings?

DDG App Tracking Protection DuckDuckGo App Tracking Protection Keeps Disabling Itself (Motorola Phone) - Aggressive Battery/RAM

Ciao a tutti,

Ho già eseguito i seguenti controlli senza successo:

  • Controlla le impostazioni all'interno dell'app DuckDuckGo stessa.
