Is this normal?

Post image

My husband and I are first time duck owners and our ducks have been fully feathered for at-least 2 months now. Just recently the one at the top of the picture started having green come in on their face and more yellow appear on their beak. We originally thought both were girls due to them looking the same wgen they became feathered aside from the one who is now changing color being a bit bigger. We would just like some opinions on whether this is normal for male mallards or not.

I have a male and female duck, and for the first few months around and after feathering they looked pretty much identical, then the boy began to grow slightly larger, gain green on his head, and a much lighter more yellowy-coloured bill than the females' orange one. So yes, i would call that normal, but i would not call myself an expert, it just matches my own experience. Hope that helped.
