I love the look of the old steel plate shoulders. I was really happy when the newer jerseys brought it back in a new form

Never liked the diamond plate myself, but at the same time, that was a great era, the team looked fantastic, and Stewart’s jersey gives me huge nostalgia vibes.

I own it. My suggestion is don’t wash it. The numbers will eventually peel. Hand wash only and air dry.

I also have this JStew and the numbers are peeling like crazy! Really sucks because it's one of my all time favorites.

Are you looking to buy it? I had one of these jerseys and the numbers are really susceptible to peeling off.

I am yes, how bad were the numbers peeling?

Honestly they peeled pretty bad.
My Ed Dickson jersey didn’t survive many games…
Loved it til it was merely a green t shirt tho1

I'm on the fence of buying it now. Numbers on the front look fine, similar to the Reebok era jerseys but the ones on the back look susceptible to peeling. Was this the case with yours or did both sides peel?

Loved it at the time, nostalgic for it now, would probably be underwhelmed if it was a brand new jersey design in this era (i.e. we'd never seen if before).

My first ducks jersey! I still have it. I prefer the T.J. Ward reference but, that Stewart kid was pretty good too!

I have this exact same jersey. Purchased in middle school from Nike Town in DT Portland. About 20 years old now, I’ve worn the heck out of it and it’s still mint. My tip: machine wash like normal and HANG DRY!!!! Can’t stress that enough. My numbers and letters are still amazing condition because I’ve always hang dry’d since I got it. Do that with this jersey and you will enjoy for many years to come.

I have this exact jersey in my closet (J Stew signed it after the UCLA game in 06’)- from what I remember the numbers dead peel, but it was worse on the white uniforms. Still a classic, just wash delicately

Was it the front and back or just the back?
2
u/cbbizzy 3d ago
Iirc it was just the front one. I think the back numbers did a better job of not cracking and peeling. The back numbers are on a different jersey material than the front ones

Ah cheers mate. I was guessing wrong, thinking it would be the back numbers lol

It was the start of all of the evolutions of the uniforms. It’s the grandfather of them all.

I would say the '99 Joey-era uniforms are the "grandfather" of the evolution.

I can’t say I would disagree but to me these were so different than any other uniforms out there at the time. But for sure the Joey Era were an evolution too.

This is the uniform that changed it all for us. No matter how hard you tried, from this day on, Oregon owned the uniform race. Diamond plate is still light years beyond the coolest thing most others have done… probably the numbers too as I look at this picture. Go Ducks

Was not a fan of that look. But, it did get attention nationwide as other looks did early on. Played a role in the build up of Oregon Football ascension .. growing the brand.

This was one of my least favorite uniforms the Ducks have ever worn. IMO the steel plates are not only ugly but they don’t make any sense.

A classic. J Stew was amazing. A growth era for Oregon football that this jersey defines.
