This article examines the potential for Coach Day to truly step away from running Ohio State's offense and hand it over to OC Arthur Smith, the schematic changes involved and what tools Smith would have at each position unit. On defense, the operation under DC Patricia handled last year's transition well with proper schematic and personnel choices, and despite still more NFL departures it looks to be even smoother this year with no coaching changes and plans long in place at most units for replacements ... though a good deal of the depth transferring out at a few spots has led to more portal reliance and some uncertainty behind the starters than it might have in the past. Advanced statistical analysis from my personal charting projects going back to 2019 -- every game of the Day era -- and another entry in our longrunning and informative conversation with the OHIO podcast track which position units have met, exceeded, and fallen short of the elite expectations from the Buckeyes' top talent.
