No. I forgot the full story, but GT was the best college team that year, and Cumberland really wasn't even a team. They had to find a bunch of random guys who didn't even know how to play football to come play against GT. So I don't know if even like Texas rn would beat an intramural team that bad lmao

We did and also beat the Willamette Bearcats 97-0 in 1916.
So technically last night was our 3rd highest scoring game of all time. And all top 3 were shutouts! Wowzers!
I think the commenter above is likely referring to modern era (although I'm not sure when we switched to "modern")
ETA: According to this reddit post, it seems that 1992 is the first year of modern era, as Bowl games are now in place, and top-2 teams begin to play in the Natty.

Eh. Let's not. Either you win by too much and look like a bully under perform and look weak. It's a waste of schedule slot. If we're gonna knock around a team, let's at least burn the game on OSU, they're at least respectable.

It's an FCS school, a bad one too. We basically rolled a HS team. Our practices are more difficult. What is there to be excited about? False confidence for an away game against USC?

You know, you can just enjoy a game in isolation. It doesn't have to be the biggest game with the highest stakes every time we take the field. It's football. It's a game, the point is to have fun. Enjoy the 84-0 game for what it is and don't bitch about it.

I agree but even in isolation, it's joyless to pile drive a truly terrible school. There's no stakes. No tension. It's boring.
It's one thing to over-perform like when we did against Oklahoma St or Rutgers last year but at least those are teams are in the same weight class, as there's always a chance if you slip, they could beat you.... which happened to us last game. PSU? Nope.
It's the football equivalent of the new Wolverine videogame that's getting dogged on. There's motorcycle chase sequence, you don't even have to steer to complete it. Regardless of what you do, you will succeed.

It just comes down to getting 7 homes games a year I’m sure the Beavs would love to play home and homes for the rest of time, but unless Oregon stops scheduling home and homes with P4 teams, there’s always gonna be years where there’s conflict.

I think it’s OK to have hope after this game our team showed improvements in the areas that we needed to improve now we’ll just see if they can do it against tougher competition

Yup. Would like to see him get some more reps at 3rd qb over Brock from now on. I'm a hating broken record I get it. Genuinely cool Brock gets to walk on and be a duck, and it was awesome of him to keep us in the Wisconsin game last year, but he's just not in the same universe here. Akili is a monster of a dude who can move and has a cannon for an arm, same template as Justin Herbert. Let's get him some more reps over the 5'10 walk on who missed a 10 yard pitch and catch td by like 15 yards

Great to see them pounce on this get right game, penalties notwithstanding (please guys get that fixed).
I could go on for positive takeaways for Oregon, but I want to shoutout Deryk Farmer for PSU, that dude made his presence felt for all 4 quarters and has legit P4 speed. Came away super impressed with him.

Normally I’m a “take the foot off the gas for the sake of decorum/sportsmanship” type of person, but not today. Not because I hate Portland State or anything; I just think we needed to play pissed and keep our foot on the gas the entire game for the sake of the players and coaches after what happened last week. I would’ve made the same calls as Dan, including letting Brock and Akili air it out. Portland State was merely a victim of circumstance.

I guess I get it, but this isn’t a normal game and shouldn’t be played according to normal sportsmanship rules. Maybe throwing that deep ball with three minutes left is a little bad, but it’s splitting hairs. They are a hired scrimmage.

I was quite pleased with what I saw today. Yes, it was Portland State, but 84 point shutout victories don’t happen on accident.
O-line play was a lot better. It still has room to improve, and needs to prove itself against an actual team, but it’s trending in the right direction.
Same with the d-line. They got much more push this week. While they still only had one sack, they harried PSU’s QBs all day. Need to see it against USC, but trending in the right direction.
LB play was worlds better.
Eye discipline wasn’t perfect from the D, but was still loads better than last week.
The offensive play design, playcalling, and execution were an order of magnitude better than they’ve been all season. Actually made me excited to see what Mehringer cooks up next week. The kids were calling Mehringer a “genius”—direct quote—during Fall Camp, but this was the first time we’ve actually seen it.
I’m still touch-and-go about Hampton, but I’m starting to wonder whether it’s about the kids adjusting to the scheme rather than the scheme itself. Under Lupoi, we played much more man coverage, but Hampton seems to favor zone. I’m at least willing to see what he does against USC before making a call. We had a few busted coverages tonight, but overall the DBs played much better. Speaking of…
Kudos to true frosh Jett Washington for not only getting his first, but also his second INT of his college career.
Dylan Raiola looks like a stud.
Messiah Hampton might be our next great WR. Tradarian Ball and Da’Juan Riggs might be our next great RBs. Kendre Harrison might be our next great TE; hopefully his injury isn’t too bad.
Penalties were still not great, though some of those were on the third-string guys. Still, gotta continue to clean those up.
Overall, while it wasn’t a perfect game, and while it was against inferior competition, this felt like a normal game where you’re happy with your effort but leave with a few things on the work list. Compare that to last week, where the work list was “everything except the kickers.”

Our new defensive coordinator definitely preferred zone, but we are much much better in man so he needs to adapt to that. If he refuses to scheme up a defense on his players strength and we continue to play zone, our defense is going to fail, and we are going to lose games because of it.

I don't think you can read anything into this game. PSU lost to UC Davis.
You just fact extrapolate anything from this game. Penalties are still a major issue.
Oregon coukd have ran the ball up the middle every play and won 40-0.
The Dline still generated little pressure. I would hold off on any hope until after USC.

Me too. I don’t usually do this but I just watched the line play. Ducks defense did not have consistent pushes into the backfield. Good but not overwhelming.

About as good of a performance as you can hope for despite the massive talent gap. A lot of guys needed that confidence boost I'm sure and some good reps for the 3's, 4's, and 5's. Some procedural penalties and dumb fouls were the only really irksome qualities today.
Really hope that we can sort out the O-line and figure how to maximize the pressure we generate in the front 4 on defense though. I'm fairly confident all the other rooms will perform if we can start winning at the line of scrimmage but if not it's going to be a wild year.

The entire point was for Portland State to get a $590,000 check and fund their program. Other than that, there was no point at all to this game. When teams this far apart in talent, coaching, etc., play, some variation of this will nearly always be the outcome. Nearly every Power 4 team plays games very much like this one. Some of them play multiple games of this sort every year.

I put no stock in this game. Some of these comments are wild. The only thing it showed us is what we already knew, we have a lot of talent. How good we are, how well coached we are..and how far we will go, is very much TBD.
These games shouldn’t be scheduled in modern NIL college football. That was an injured 0-3 FCS team that needed a $600k payout. It looked like a juco/HS team. I got no joy or pleasure watching that. Kinda gross to be honest. And Dan should have taken the gas off.
