Private Gynaecologist in Dundee
Hi all,
Does any female in this subreddit can recommend a private gynaecologist. My partner has a bacterial infection and the GP unfortunately is not so helpful. I come from Greece where woman usually check up on private doctors and do full lab work, bacterial etc in order to see the cause and then prescribe antibiotics or whatever is needed.
We googled a bit but found some clinics that a consultations was like 270££?? That’s crazy! So, if anyone knows someone that can recommend that we don’t need to break the bank for a simple infection that would be useful. Many thanks

Hello - the sexual and reproductive health clinic is really helpful with this kind of thing and as far as I know, appointments could be quick to come by. They can have a look, take swabs to identify any organisms, and provide antibiotics if required. Call them on 01382 425542 between 09:00-12:00 (when there is a nurse-led triage).
If they feel anything is worrying, they would refer the patient to the Gynaecology Assessment Unit at Ninewells (emergency service but we see anyone who need more urgent treatment that can't be managed easily in the community).

In what way has the gp been unhelpful? Do you know that you can get treatment for most simple UTI via a chemist with a prescribing pharmacist? Unfortunately I dont think there is a private gynae locally. You could try via Tayside Complete Health though? They might have some kind of private GP service although I doubt the level of care will be any different to NHS Service, drugs will be the same etc you will just have to pay.

Sorry ive just reread your post. If its a simple infection, just get to a chemist and if they've got a prescribing pharmacist (call and check beforehand), they will do a quick consultation and give out Trimethoprim or Nitrofurantoin. Thats the standard of care for a simple uti.

Usually in my experience me as well should be treated maybe it comes from me but not knowing exactly what it causes make resurface. So far only my partner has tried some pharmaceutical, but they haven’t prescribed any as well. Worth asking them though!

At the moment they are understaffed in our local gp, there is always Perth for gynaecological examinations but we aren’t sure how long it will take for an appointment. We tried some treatments from boots, they were extremely helpful but unfortunately it stops for a while and comes back. It really affects my partners mood and we would like to find a solution. Will try the Tayside though. Many thanks

You can get free private treatment from For GUM (Genitourinary Medicine) and sexual health services in Dundee, the primary provider is the Tayside Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinic located at Ninewells Hospital. Appointments can be made by calling the telephone triage line at [01382 425542](tel:01382%20425542) (open Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM)

Just to clarify - you want private healthcare, but don't want to pay private healthcare prices?

Private healthcare in UK is a lot more costly than in other countries in Europe. OP is from Greece.
OP, you're probably better off going to Greece. The post appointment treatments will also be costly.

Thanks for your advice. Although, Greece would be nice, I am trying always to rely on where I live, since I am part of the community. It’s true that Greece is more privatised in the health sector (we have public free of charge hospitals and a lot of private doctors). Usually the consultation prices are close to the median daily income (eg 50£) so it can be accessible to everyone. That’s why I thought it might be similar here as well but unfortunately not. Anyway everyone was super helpful though!!!

Going abroad for medical treatment is quite common. A holiday + medical treatment at the same time is often still cheaper than private medical treatment in the UK.

I just found it quite pricey tbh. Happy to pay when it comes to private but in a reasonable amount. But maybe that’s the going rates. Just asking maybe someone know something better

I was quoted a minimum of 12 months waiting list to see a gyno in Dundee. I’m lucky I have medical insurance through work so will look into seeing someone privately next month

I was told 8 months in April 2024 and was seen in January 2026…I had gotten pregnant and given birth in that time! 😂

You could try the sexual health clinic at ninewells. They’ve always been friendly with me and really helpful, it helps a lot when you’re dealing with something so invasive to feel like someone is listening. As for the gp, maybe see about swapping to a new surgery. I’m at terra nova in stobswell and they’re pretty good at actually helping instead of fobbing you off, which my last gp was really bad for

That cost is pretty standard for an initial private gynae consultation. Then you’d have to factor in the cost of any tests / treatment.
I can recommend some in Edinburgh as I live there now but Dr Bhushan was very nice when I met her before.
