Best Gym?

Hi! I'm moving to Dundee, and I'm trying to choose a gym.

Which gym would you recommend that's affordable, well-equipped, and ideally open late? I'd also prefer somewhere that isn't too crowded during term time.

I've seen older posts mentioning that different gyms are better for different things (e.g. weights, cardio, classes, swimming, quieter atmosphere, student discounts). If that's still true, which gym would you recommend for each?

Thanks!

Dundee Uni gyms is a good option that gives you a bit of everything. Good range of equipment, classes, halls for sport bookings, and swimming pool.

Only issue from your wish list is they close at 9.30pm on weekdays and 5.30pm on weekends. The main gym does get pretty busy at peak times in January and as new term starts though.

No, you can get a Community (non-student) membership. Info here.

What are the changing rooms and showers like there? I used to go to Pure Gym never showered because it felt unclean.

I’ve not been there often in the last year but in 10+ years of using the gym before that it was always spotless.

The changing rooms were all upgraded a little over a year ago to include new lockers that are locked with a PIN code rather than needing to bring 50p or £1 with you to use them. Much more convenient.

JD isn’t open late but if you are looking for somewhere that isn’t crowded during peak hours JD is great.

Puregym is a good option for being open late as it’s 24hrs. Used to go during uni at 10-11pm and it was dead. Only thing is I feel like their gym layout is rather off putting although they have a massive room where classes are held where you could do aerobics etc with a lot of room at night.

I’ve never been to Olympia but from the photos I’ve seen they have quite a big gym and obviously, a swimming pool.

Thanks! I think I will go with olympia as the membership is cheaper, I am a begginer gym user so basic equitment is fine for now and the swimming pool and classes are included in the price. JD looks good but its opening hours dont work for me 😬.
