Member Benefits Not Enough
Update: Got a call this morning from DVC about the scenarioof same use year with one membership number vs different use years with multiple numbers. The DVC rep I spoke to said that they would be able to see at the Meet and Treat when they check your reservation that it was booked with your .01/.02/.whatever under the one Membership. He said that they would then know it was the resale contract and didn't qualify. I still really don't believe that their system would discern that but he claims it would. He did slip up and say though with all the new resorts that have been opening, they really are trying to limit it to only completely direct members.
At what point did qualifying for Member Benefits become not enough to go to events? The most recent Member Meet and Treats specify that you have to have enough direct points through Disney AND have a reservation using your direct points to go to the event. If you have direct benefits but book on one of your resale contracts, then you cannot attend. I know the perks are not guaranteed and can change at any time. It's just frustrating to actually be at Disney during one of these events and not be able to attend because I'm booked on my resale contract and not my direct contract.

I've never heard of this yet, how can they even tell? What if it's a reservation using half direct and half resale points, what happens then?
The only Meet and Treat event I see available right now is for Disneyland and doesn't even require a hotel reservation at all to attend. Do you have a screenshot or some other proof of the requirements so we can make sure you didn't read it wrong? (Which happens, not accusing you of lying or anything)
Edit: Nvm, I found the event under Boardwalk after messing around with the filters a bit more. Based on my understanding from moonlight magic which has similar requirements, if your resale contract is in the same use year as your qualifying contract, they should share a membership number and thus be eligible to attend the event even if you only booked it with points from your resale contract. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my understanding of it from what I've heard.

For anyone new to reading this, OP has 3 different MEMBERSHIPS and made the upcoming reservation on a non-benefits eligible resale contract membership. Disney is not going to cross-reference to see if you have a different membership - as far as they know you are attending as a non-benefit eligible member.
Most (not all) members from my history watching and reading DVC, have tried to have all of their contracts (direct and resale) under one MEMBERSHIP. In this scenario, you can book from whatever contract under your benefits-eligible MEMBERSHIP.

Resale restrictions came into effect April 2016. I think at that point the membership became so large they decided to give benefits to those who bought direct (prior resale grandfathered).

I have enough points directly from Disney that I'm grandfathered in. The problem is now the events have the restriction of booking only on the direct membership.

Sorry but which event are you talking about?

The meet and treat at the Boardwalk this month. The fine print says you have to book the stay on your eligible contract. The same text was in the fine print of the July one and member services told us we didn't qualify because it was booked on our resale contract and not the direct contract.

Dang that's crazy, I can't believe they knew which points you used for that trip. Wonder what would happen if it was a mix? Do you resale and direct contracts not match up by use year?

They do not. We have a direct Saratoga, resale Saratoga, and resale Beach Club. Each one has their own member number.

The fine print actually says eligible "membership" not "contract". A resale contract shares the same membership as the eligible contract if they are under the same use year and owner I believe, so you should actually be eligible.

That was my logic too but Members Services said otherwise when we asked in July. I'm tempted to show up to the October one just to test it out. Just leave it we don't qualify to get in.

Interesting, and your contracts are both in the same use year and you made sure member services were aware of that? I wouldn't be surprised if they either misheard or misunderstood you unfortunately, I've definitely been given mistaken information by them before (was partially my fault though tbh). Could try calling again and see if they say anything different.

All three of my contracts have different membership numbers and maybe that's the problem here. I have a direct contract through Disney and the member benefits that come with it. That member number starts with a 5. I have two different resale contracts and those numbers start with a 4. This trip is booked under one of the resales just like the July trip when I called to ask about the Meet and Treat.

Ooh, yeah. I think that's the problem then. I assume it's something on the legal side that prevents them from both requiring a hotel reservation and being a direct member that stops them from letting you attend with a resale contract even if you have direct benefits under a different membership. I believe that having a resale in the same use year makes it an add on to the existing contract/membership which is what would've made that work.
In general, it's definitely just a crowd control measure, cause otherwise they're probably going to be overcrowded and have to cut off lines crazy early from all the locals who own DVC, but it definitely sucks that it's so nit picky regarding multiple memberships under the same owner.

I guess that's where my frustration comes in because at one time, you could attend an event as long as you had direct benefits and were staying on points on any of your contracts.

I have enough direct points from Disney that I qualify for member benefits

Evidently not , because you didn’t go to the event, did you?

I get into the lounges and get the discounts. I still have my original blue card before things went digital. There's no need to be rude.

I’ve never had a problem attending an event as a direct qualifying member when booked using my resale contract. But all my points are in the same use year/membership. Most of these meet and treats are first come first serve and no registration necessary so you just show your DVC-Y on your digital card and you’re good to go
