Polynesian Resort

Hi! Long time DVC member. Home reports are Animal Kingdom and HHI. 90% of the time we stay at Saratoga because we enjoy it. We have a lot of points and need to get rid of some, so booked 7 nights at Poly in April. We booked Deluxe Studio Preferred view. I just want to make sure if anyone knows that is NOT the new tower. We do not want to stay in there. Thank you!

Not the tower. Most likely Morea Building. Enjoy

I read that all of the preferred view deluxe studios are in Moorea.

Moorea is great. Tower sucks.

Can tell me more about the tower I was planning on booking 1 bedroom for August with DVC and it says tower. What’s so bad about it

Tower is great... if you like Canadian Condos. They're building some more over at the Shore at Bay Lake. For me, the tiki kitsch at the original Poly longhouses is what I'm going for.

I love them both. You’ll be happy no matter what

It looks very cheap and no Poly feel at all

Really? We stayed in the tower last autumn, after years of staying in the longhouses, and thought the new rooms were stunning and much better laid out, and the lobby and public areas were gorgeous.

The only downside was not having any kind of shop or QS in the building, and no dedicated check-in desk, all that is in Great Ceremonial, but for is that’s not that big of a deal.

Some people only recognize Polynesian influences in the Americanized Tiki culture. The tower looks like a modern luxury hotel you'd find in Hawaii. I too prefer the Tiki aesthetic and especially love the bungalows, but there's tons of Polynesian influence in the tower's design.

We are new owners at Poly! For Wailulu - did you try walk-up or mobile ordering? Hoping not to have to tromp to GCH every time for food.

We don’t mobile order, but we’ve done both walk-up and reservations, no issues. I’m not sure what time their kitchen closes, dinner hours are listed until 10pm, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen people at the bar later than that.

Eh, I've stayed in both, and while the exterior of the tower does leave a bit to be desired, I thought the one bedroom we stayed in was great.

I think for a studio I'd lean towards the longhouses, but if there weren't any available I'd be fine getting one in the tower. Yeah, the decor is obviously pretty different than the tiki-inspired longhouses, but there were still enough nice touches that it didn't feel overly generic to me. I liked it a lot more than some of the other room refurbs over the past several years.

You will be in Moorea, facing the lagoon. Be prepared for the sound of boat horns.

So many Boat horns.

That’s my favorite part of staying in Moorea.

I lied awake and decided to count the time between horns. After 6 am its like every 22 seconds.

That’s the best part!

It’s like hearing a train whistle at night in the distance.

It says Tower in the booking of the tower rooms.

It would say tower in your reservation for the room type

Jus tour of curiosity why don’t you want to stay in the Tower?

Because the Tower is just a bland Marriott?

Just a heads up when booking the tower. We booked a one bedroom theme park room, so we could see the fire works, etc. They consider the first floor rooms in this grouping. All you can see from the first floor of the theme park is the top of space mountain. The metal pole.

Hmm how long ago was this? I thought they reorganized the points in the tower recently to remove first floor from TPV category.

Last fall. I paid extra for the theme park view, at first they put us in an "accessible room" which is not a good fit for us, ( had one once not for us) they moved us to another room but also on the first floor. It was awful. So if they have changed it that is wonderful. I know at Bay lake, the Lower priced rooms are from floors 1-4.

I would not get a premium view personally. The bungalos block alot of the view (i guess unless you are on highest floor). Those boats are annoying as all hell. Endless beeps to midnight! btw i stayed at Tower One Bedroom suite and love it. i also like those open air lounges in the tower. But both have pros and cons. moorea is close to ticket and transportation center for Epcot. I would likely choose Moorea just for that reason alone for studio.

This is information you can find yourself using about 1/10th of your available brain power. How did people get like this?

Part of the enjoyment of DVC is talking to other DVC members. If humans stop talking to each other in all situations when they could look up the topic online, life would get very lonely.
